Gravity Bugs / Issues

Ouch!

I had a White Dream on order with the Yosemite, but took my Aurora Green GT with Ojai, since it came up first. The Ojai goes really well with the green.

Ojai would still be my first choice if it were available in the Dream Edition. And the longer we have the Aurora Green Gravity, the more we love the color. We actually toyed around for a few minutes with getting another green one but felt we were pushing it to have two with the same interior and that going with the same exterior color would be a bridge too far.

Our black Gravity was totaled this morning in an accident. I won't go into any details here, but the structural integrity of Lucids wins kudos again.
@hmp10 - First and foremost, I am so relieved to hear that everyone is okay. A totaled vehicle is scary enough, but knowing the people involved are safe is what truly matters. Thank you for sharing that the structural integrity held up, it is reassuring for all of us to hear in a moment like this!

I can only imagine how unsettling the whole situation was, and I hope you and your family are taking a moment to breathe and recover from the shock. Cars can be replaced. People cannot.

That said, it is incredibly impressive that you were able to turn around and order another Gravity Dream Edition so quickly. Your commitment to this vehicle could honestly qualify you for a special Lucid loyalty badge at this point. Q2 delivery, Q3 delivery, and now a Q4 delivery, you are unintentionally conducting the most thorough longitudinal study on Gravity production improvements of anyone here.

It is encouraging to hear that the second DE showed real hardware improvements over the first. If that trend continues, your third one might just arrive fully enlightened… or at least slightly less mischievous. Please keep us posted, but most importantly, take care and give yourselves the time needed to shake off what must have been a very stressful morning. We are all glad you are safe. 💚🙏

Okay, folks. Things are getting weird, and I'm about to provide a new user case study for how Gravity production is evolving and whether issues are getting resolved as production proceeds.

Our black Gravity was totaled this morning in an accident. I won't go into any details here, but the structural integrity of Lucids wins kudos again.

So we've already ordered another Gravity Dream Edition, this one in White/Tahoe/Aether (22-23") wheels. It's factory-gated already and should get here in a few weeks.

Our first Gravity DE was delivered the last day of Q2. Our second Gravity DE was delivered almost the last day of Q3. Our third Gravity DE should arrive right around the end of Q4.

There were improvements between the first and second: no second-row seat rattle, no signs of drive unit failure, no HUD screen distortion, GPS/navigation functioning (mostly), better fit on some exterior trim. Of course, the software gremlins still show up in full force, but the hardware has significantly improved.

So, let's see what end-of-the-year production brings . . . .
Unfortunately, it doesn’t take much to total an EV. I hope everyone involved is ok. I was furious when my M5 was hit, but as mad as I was I kept my cool with the other driver, and was thankful no one was injured. Later on, a friend reminded me to stop whining about the loss of my M5 and say a prayer that I was alive instead. I was hit broadside and really could’ve been hurt very badly. Cars can be replaced, people can’t. Things can change in a split second. The kinetic energy released in an accident, especially at high speed, is like a bomb going off. After I was hit it took me a few seconds to come to my senses and realize what happened.

I drive very defensively as compared to when I was younger. I let the idiots go in front of me and stay far away from them. I pretty much assume everyone is an idiot and that they will do the most stupid thing I can imagine. Even knowing that, you can’t plan for dumb or the unexpected, which is why I don’t skimp on insurance.

If possible, it would be helpful for the rest of us to understand the level of damage sustained to your car and how it performed, although it’s understandable if you’re unable to discuss that due to various circumstances.

Hopefully, Lucid will put your third Dream Edition through a 100% quality audit, and exorcise it from the software demons.

I thought all the GDE were spoken for?
I was going to ask the same question. I don’t think you can order a net new one, but there may be orphans or inventory…

Glad you and your partner are okay @hmp10. Sounds incredibly scary but also comforting to hear the Gravity helped protect you!

Two weeks ago or so, I was told 2 white GDE were available.

Here's a photo of the Gravity and the Prius. The cabins of both cars stayed intact, although the Prius had windshield and dashboard damage that the Air did not. It's also a substantially smaller and lighter car, though.

As you can see, the Gravity was virtually unscathed backward of the A pillars (except for airbag deployment).

I, too, thought all the Dreams were spoken for but decided to call my SA on the off-chance one might be orphaned somewhere.

It turned out there were a fair number available, either already gated at the factory (i. e., through final inspection) or at Lucid showrooms. Putting a filter on the search just for cars with the 22/23" wheels I wanted produced seven available cars, two still at the factory. If you take a car from a showroom and need it transported, you have to pay the transport costs. If you take one from the factory, its transport is covered by the destination fee. I took one from the factory.

If I understood my SA correctly, there were also a couple of Dreams still unavailable in production queue and not yet gated.

The fact that the air bags deployed tells us a lot about the level of impact.

Okay, it seems I am the only one with this issue, but my rear passenger window is, once again, stuck in a half down position. It’s maddening. I have another 600 miles on this roadtrip and it’s 32 degrees. I will have to use a trash bag taped over the window…again.

This happened shortly after delivery in August, I had to get some sort of new actuator in the window, waited 8 days for the part to come from the “production line”. It has worked perfectly since then - until now. Now it will be raining and snowing on first leg of trip tomorrow. Awesome.

When it was fixed, I asked them to make sure all seals were checked, etc. Ugh.

I’ve tried all the previous tricks and what I learned last time. Don’t want to mess with it anymore as it’s bad enough.

No appetite to take it in again, and road trip won’t be over until late Monday. Customer Care is closed now. Closed Sunday and so is service center. So, my kids and wife will (once again) laugh at me and, more importantly, be incredibly uncomfortable for the remainder of the trip.

I know it could happen in any car - but it never has. And this is twice in 4 months.

Will update from the service post…I think I’ve only heard of 2-3 other folks with a similar issue. Glad it’s not widespread. Maybe they’ll just give me an entirely door this time. Honestly, I’d prefer they do that even if it’s a different color! 😆

. White might give a little respite, at least from the dust and fingerprints.
Based on my experience with a Stellar White Air (and other white cars in the past), white is not the color you want if you don't want to show dust and dirt.

I've had the best luck with gray and bronzish cars.

One thing nice about white cars - you can quickly wipe them down with a microfiber towel and a little detailer spray. No need to worry about spiderwebbing the paint, it's not really visible.

I've had white cars I've had black cars. No comparison, black look better but its not worth it. It only looks better if you never drive it. White, while not as nice as a clean black car, is much more forgivable. It looks good, can be driven without looking horrible and finger smudges are nonexistent compared to a black car.

Jeeze, I know you were frustrated with all the glitches, but next time just lemon-law it instead of wrecking it! :p

Glad you're okay!

@hmp10 I’d like to know given all the software glitches, did the Halo recording activate during your accident?

You don't have much choice with the Dream Editions. It's black, white, or green. And we already have a green one.

I haven't checked yet. However, I did test the feature a few days ago and it instructed me to insert a memory stick although I had done that when I first set it up. It was working at setup, but I've seen posts from others that also had the system quit after initial setup. Perhaps it has to do with its still being in beta release?

That's the combo I picked too. At first I just had the default 14-way seats, until I realized they didn't have massage (the configurator is confusing on that). Since I had to pay for the upgrade to get massage, Ojai was the color I liked best.

Yeah, half the time I go into the Halo setup menu I don’t see the memory stick. Then I’ll come back after the car sleeps & wakes up and it’s there. It seems hit or miss, which is not what you want in an accident.

By the way, I have the same black DE color and wheels as you. Your accident pic put a chill up my spine. I’m very sorry you lost your car, but maybe in a perverse way it was for the best so that you could reset and get a new one, even with the sunk cost and hassle. I hope your third DE gives you the joy you deserve.

HOLY CRAP. I am sorry for your non-stop headaches and this takes the cake, but also relieved you are unscathed and can get a replacement. Do you live on an Indian Burial ground or something though? Sheessh. Sorry I know it is NOT funny but you are overdue a mountain of good fortune after all this.
