Gravity Bugs / Issues

There may some sound insulation on the back of the door panels which I didn't look at. I'm actually very impressed with how isolated the Gravity is from exterior sounds. You barely hear semi trucks alongside you on the highway, and other traffic is dead silent. It's noticeably quieter than our Air.

Good to know. My Air is quiet enough, but not vault-like quiet. Three years in, there’s still that wind rustle coming from the upper part of the front door frames.

I was too busy taking care not to hit anything to be able to pay attention to how quiet the Gravity was on my test drive, though my companions riding in the back remarked that at freeway speeds they could hear everything that the sales rep and I were saying, without strain. That’s simply not the case, riding in the back of our 2018-build Model X.

Our Model X has a sound system superior to that in my Air GT. Too bad none of us can hear it for all the road roar and wind noise.

Today's episode of the darkish romcom "Living with Lucids":

We got the punctured tire replaced on our green Gravity this morning, and my partner, having missed driving it for several days, was looking forward to taking it to play tennis. But we got a text from our mobile tech that he was on the way to handle the recall for the missing rear door sound insulation. So he headed off for tennis in the Air.

The mobile tech soon arrived and finished up. I needed to get to the bank to withdraw some cash before the holiday, and I figured I could put the black Gravity on the road and listen to music, as my partner's match by now would be well underway. So, after going through the drill to get the audio set back to Tidal instead of Sirius (to which it invariably defaults although still displaying the Tidal menu), I got underway. I made it the twelve miles to the bank, enjoying the drive in this superb road machine with its great sound system as I chilled to Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris.

I got my cash and got back in the car, again having to tease it away from its Sirius addiction. As I began backing out of the parking space the music paused. I hit the play button, and the music resumed as I finished backing out. As soon as I put the car into drive, the music paused again. Then again. Then again. I'm thinking, "what the hell; the other two Lucids are parked."

Well, it turned out a spot shower had rained out the tennis match midway through, and my partner was back in the Air heading home -- also trying unsuccessfully to listen to music.

It's been more than a month since Lucid said they were referring this issue to an engineering team. Following suggestions on this forum that it might be because all our Lucids are on the same account, I asked several weeks ago to put the cars on separate accounts to see if that fixed the problem. I've heard nothing but crickets.

The constant whiplash of having drive after drive in these cars oscillate between a sublime driving experience only to have an annoying software issue intrude continues with no signs of letup.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's episode . . . .

Lucid: it’s a car, AND a hobby

Are folks still having issues with the Bluetooth/phone sound quality or was that fixed with the last update? Thanks, all.

New issue: driving to dinner we were doing 53mph with the HUD showing 91mph. So we just turned it off. Screw it.

I've had this happen as well and reported it. I believe the HUD is displaying in kph while the pilot panel displays in mph. I also gave a few suggestions on how to prevent the possibility of this occurring, but did not hear back.

What the heck!
Sorry to hear about yet another issue.
Your running list is seemingly interminable
Since you have 2 Dream Gravities, worthwhile to specify which one has what problems?

It varies, both in terms of glitches and what workarounds work in each car. For instance, the black Gravity is the only one with a Sirius subscription, and it’s the one that has been defaulting away from our chosen source. But tonight when we got in the green Gravity it had defaulted to “Radio”, a source we have never selected in either car,

Putting these cars on the road is a spinning roulette wheel of software issues. I’m losing hope of all this ever getting sorted out. There’s just too much that seems unique to our two cars. I have quit talking up the Gravity to anyone at this point as I feel recommending it is irresponsible.

. . . I feel recommending it is irresponsible.

I should have said, "recommending it just now is irresponsible".

Lucid finally got the Air software sorted, although it took almost a year. And the Gravity, like the Air, has great "bones": structural solidity, superb handling dynamics, class-leading space packaging, quiet and comfortable interior, and great leaps forward in terms of charging flexility and speed.

What worries me, though, is that having two Gravities has made it clear just how random these software issues are from car to car and, in some cases, how unique some of them are to our cars. This suggests that it may be a very long time, if ever, that Lucid gets to the bottom of everything that's going on with our two cars. They're going to prioritize fixes that are more common across the model lineup and that occur with greater predictability. I understand why this would be so, but it still leaves us out in the cold with some of our problems.

For instance, the fact that we can't have any two of our three Lucids on the road at the same time and listen to music in either of them seems to be unique to people who have multiple Lucids -- perhaps even unique to us alone, as other multiple Lucid owners I've asked on the forum are not reporting the issue. The fact that the issue was referred to an engineering team over a month ago and I haven't heard a word back about even possible causes or fixes is worrisome.

I'm just trying to accept the possibility that we may have two Gravities on our hands that are always going to have certain idiosyncratic glitches that Lucid can't or won't even try eventually to resolve because they're not a big enough problem to the wider customer base.

I never felt this about the Air, even during the darkest days of UX 1.0. But the Gravity is a model from a software operation that has been at this more than five years now, and the hot mess they dumped on us with the Gravity doesn't suggest much promise of getting things fully sorted any time soon.

91 km/h = 56.5 mi/hr
53 mi/hr = 85.3 km/h

Either way this is probably not the problem

The HUD was labeling the speed as "MPH", and the posted speed limit display was showing the correct 45mph. So if it had reverted to kilometers it only did so in that one segment of the display.

Frankly I wouldn't mind having the ability to display the cockpit in one system and the HUD in the other, as my partner is more comfortable with the metric system and I with the English system, and we both like to comment/gripe about the other's speeds when driving.

But, based on everything else I've seen of Lucid UI software, such a feature is not something I would want Lucid to attempt. We might end up with a speed display as a percentage of light speed and have it show up under cabin temperature or tire pressure.

Many cars incorrectly recognize speed limits occasionally. My Mercedes did this and my Volvo does this. It really isn’t exclusively a Lucid problem or a HUD issue. EVERY other issue @hmp10 has had though is beyond the pale of absurdity. Music is such an important part of my driving experience that at this point I would be moving from frustration to anger that he cannot listen to music unless the other car is not on the road.

On our trip to Southport , NC, stopped to charge ( that story in the charging thread). Upon exiting the car and going to dinner the app came up with Gravity not online or whatever the not talking error message is. Reboots had no effect. Went to sleep in the hotel and this morning we are communicating again. I guess Ursa just gets tired.

You were able to drive the car, but you just lost app connectivity?

Just took the dog for a ride in the green Gravity (June delivery) before heading out for a holiday gathering.

The audio menu would not come up, again staying stuck on the home page, and no music would play. I tried a soft reboot that didn't work. I then switched to a guest profile, and the audio menu came up and music immediately started. I switched back to my profile, the music stopped, and the audio menu became inaccessible.

(I deleted the rest of this post. I am too angry to post what's really going through my head right now about these cars.)

That is incredibly frustrating, especially when you were just trying to take your four-legged co-pilot out for a peaceful ride before a holiday gathering. Many of us know that feeling of being one software glitch away from saying things we will absolutely regret on the forum. You handled it far better than most of us would have in the moment!

The profile switching trick you discovered is actually a helpful clue that the issue might be tied to a corrupted profile rather than the audio system itself. Still not acceptable, of course, but good troubleshooting on your part. Please hang in there! You are definitely not alone with these quirks, and your June delivery Gravity is capable of great things once it decides to cooperate. This community has been through the full rollercoaster and is always here to help through the dips.

Wishing you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving! May the holiday spirit, the one that reminds us to breathe, forgive, and somehow be patient with things that do not deserve patience, find its way into the software too. Please give your furry passenger an extra treat for demonstrating more calm than the rest of us combined. 😄🐾🍁🚗💚

Let’s be real, Saudis are the feeding hand Lucid can’t afford to bite. Those cars have to go through extra‑rigorous QC because that market bankrolls the brand. Do you think Prince Sultan Bin Salman was driving around in a Gravity with "no key fob recognized" , a whistling noise over 60mph, or muffled audio on the other end of a call? 😂 Just to name a few.
I don’t think the prince drives himself around. :)

Honestly though, if you’re not sharing a Spotify account or whatever, I’m still flabbergasted about why this is occurring to only you. I wouldn’t even know where to begin looking, other than the Lucid account.
