Gravity Bugs / Issues

My Gravity comes early next year. You guys are making me want to keep my Air.

We have an Air Dream Performance, a car I have loved for almost four years (especially after the software issues began to be put to bed).

We also have a Gravity Dream Edition that has all the early teething problems of the Air, and then some.

But I have to say that every time we get in the Air I find myself wishing we were taking the Gravity.

Four years in, and I think the Gravity remains the best balance of power, handling, ride, room, and space utilization of any sedan on the planet. But the different form factor of the Gravity opens up new vistas in room, comfort, outward visibility, and -- if they ever get it sorted -- user utility through a very clever (but so far abysmally-executed) UI layout. Its ride compliance and cabin silence are also a clear notch above the Air's.

But the truly astonishing thing is how little ground the Gravity gives up to the Air in terms of driving dynamics. The Gravity is, of course, a bit slower off the line, but its pull in the upper ranges is amazing, and its handling abilities with the Dynamic Handling Package are downright other-worldly.

I wouldn't want Lucid to develop the user software on my vacuum cleaner. But when it comes to what makes a vehicle a true driving machine, nobody does it better, and the Gravity shows it in spades.

I had a number of issues a year ago (software all) which have resolved with OTA updates and better understanding on my part. I hope the same is true wit my Gravity.
Just keep in mind, this is a "bugs-issues" thread, not a "car is great, love it" thread.

I absolutely love my GGT!
DDP is great, but I really love driving the car myself.
SSP is amazing. Spotify works; a few songs that won't play if selected, but will play as part of a playlist.
Exit/entry works.
No squeaks, seats move as designed.
Native nav app works; not as good as Google Maps, but gets the job done.
Love the parking assist with cameras especially when backing into a space since this car is longer/wider than previous car.
Haven't done a tone of road tripping, but when done, DCFC worked as desired. Avoiding EVGos.

The only issue I had was the NFC reader not allowing car to go into gear with key card; new console installed, problem solved.
Had all black screens once after 3.3.2 update.
Get occasional "key fob not detected" message for a few seconds; which I ignore and put car in gear.

I feel for those having issues.
Just remember the intent of this thread and that those with few issues probably have no reason(s) to post the good; as I'm doing now.
They're out driving or something else with few reasons to check the forum; good ole human nature.

Love my GGT.
Hoping yours is as amazing.

And yes, Lucid has to do right by my muse @hmp10 . Doesn't feel right until he's good. 😉

Sorry, I meant the Air here. The edit feature timed out before I caught it.

We have so many other issues that I haven't paid much attention to phone charging. We have noticed that our phones sometimes charge and sometimes don't when on the charge pads. However, they sometimes slide forward while driving, and I've seen posts indicating that could be the reason.

Do you think it could be that, or might we also have a problem with the console wiring? (I'm almost afraid to ask, but I might as well know everything to ask for on the next service visit.)
I’ve had good luck with the wireless charging and the surface is rubbery/sticky enough that it doesn’t slip. But you really have to push phone back and to the corner to get it to work.

Squeak from second row didn’t start until after a month or so of using seats and car. My concisely now squeaks a bit too - but the car is so darn quiet, I may just be too picky. Give it time…you may still get some squeaks. 😏

I traded my 2022Air GT for Gravity, glad I did. It’s just a posher even more pleasant vehicle, if you can imagine that. The Gravity drives/handles more like a high end sport wagon than SUV, especially at low ride height. I feel like the Air has more down force and in sprint mode it’s just too much fun, but what Gravity might lack in that “being pulled on a tight string” feel the Air has in sprint mode, it makes up for in the crazy versatility, poise and spaceship feel. And the acceleration (at least in the Dream Edition) does my favorite thing which is pull very HARD above 60mph, it literally saved me from a weaving idiot on the left cuz I just blasted past the fool once I saw him weave back out of my lane.

I really like the HUD too, those blind spot triangles make it so you never have take your eyes off the road.

Yeah the software is surprisingly erratic, but given how they eventually sorted out most of the Air issues I’m not worried and don’t miss my Air as much as I thought because Gravity does really feel like an upgrade.

Driving up I-4 using DD Premium. It is better than my Tesla was when using the same functionality(TACC and autopilot). However half way to Orlando it suddenly stopped showing the blind spot videos when changing lanes. When we stopped for a rest and started again they were back. Car consistently takes a looooong time to boot on reentry Although fob and key cards both work. I wouldn’t mind but it doesn’t reset from entry mode until it boots up. 3.3.2 from delivery center.

I am wonderering as has been previously brought up if some of these issues are memory leak problems that reset reclaims?

Something we're trying to figure out:

If you walk away with the key and doors are open, the Gravity doesn't immediately lock. For example, the driver and key have gone inside and the passengers are unloading the car, cleaning up, etc for a few minutes. Eventually everyone leaves and closes the doors. Let's say this is 5 minutes later.

When does your Gravity auto-lock and sleep? Does it at all?

Have you engaged the auto lock feature?

Yes. If we just get out and the fob leaves range with the doors closed, it locks quite quickly.
Just an add to this , if a door is slightly ajar when the fob is pressed to lock the car sounds the horn.

This brings up a question I've been meaning to ask. How consistent are folks finding the soft-close feature?

We find we have to get the door closer to fully closed than in our Air for the soft-close to take over. And sometimes it doesn't seem to grab at all (as is now happening with our Air intermittently since one of the later software updates.)

I find the soft-close feature to be pretty consistent.
A push just enough to make contact does the trick.
I don't worry too much if my push is too much, as is the case for most passengers I have who aren't familiar with the feature. I know I'm not slamming the door closed.
I don't hassle passengers about it, I just make them aware and as long as they aren't trying to slam a door shut, I'm good.

If I don't push enough to activate the feature, I usually nudge it a little or reopen and close again.

I like the feature because the doors are not lightweight or short; pretty good heft to them.
With the soft-close feature, I don't have to try to give them a slam.

Because the driver-side window sort of angles rearward and the door is longer than my other cars, I approach the door like a matador (pun intended) with a cape.
Almost like opening a door for someone to get out of the car.

I've gotten positive comments about the doors even with people just opening and handling them for the first time—they remark that it feels solid and hefty, a good balance in weight that I think does the job of communicating that the car is well-built.

We haven't had a huge issue w/ the soft closing either, though coming from the Model X's mechanical doors, the kids had to get used to opening and closing doors again instead of relying on pushing a button. One small bug I've found is that occasionally (this is maybe 2× in the past month, so not a common thing), the car doesn't think a car is closed even though it looks closed and sealed, so it flashes the door red in the app and on the dashboard and that has sometimes prevented the car from shutting down or going to sleep.

Seeing some wild stuff with the navigation after it came back from the SC. I did not have this issue before they replaced the center console for the key issues.

Unfortunately some of my key issues are back as well. Two days in a row I have had to remove the battery from the key fob and reinsert it to get the fob to work.

Soft close is working fine. Issue is explaining it to people (my kids included) who are completely used to slamming the door - especially on the R1S which has heavy, big doors.

Excellent question and one I’d test but am away on business. Would be good to know as my kids are often last out of the car and couldn’t care less if it’s locked…

Well, our missing foot or so of a front door accent light mysteriously returned to service tonight. Could this possibly be another software bug? I think it more likely it's a defective light strip. But with this car, who knows?
