Totally get it. I am taking it on the chin now as the car tends to act up only when my wife and kids are with me.

BUT - the odds of you being totally stranded seem very, very small - especially for a newer production car. Seems like most folks need to use the key card, at worst, or do the fob battery trick OR have no issue.

If you’re really nervous, unless you’ve got a timing or finance issue, I’d defer delivery. You can get one fairly quickly when you’re ready, but the embarrassment, frustration and angst from my wife (and kids) is unrelenting. Luckily, we have three cars. If we didn’t, I would’ve deferred. I can take the jabs, but that’s because the car is awesome AND we have two others. Having two others is key (for me).

Just trying to give open advice.

Yes. I know @HC_79 has advised it doesn’t always happen, but the last two car updates for Gravity were preceded by an app update. I am hopeful!!!

While I’m not trying to sway you one way or the other, I was VERY nervous about my Gravity DE, as I often have to get in the car and go and be at my job within 30 minutes when called, so I can’t be messing around with whether the car will let me drive it. Fortunately I got 2 fobs and 2 cards, and vehicle was delivered yesterday with 3.3.1 software, and everything worked great until this AM when I needed to take my kid to school. Sure enough, fob not detected, can’t drive the car, 15 minutes to get her to school which is 9 minutes away. So I did the trick posted here, took fob battery out, held down unlock, put the battery back in, and it worked like a charm. Got her to school with zero minutes to spare.
But wait there’s more:
As soon as I got home I got the 3.2.2 OTA notice. I was scare to install it, like would black screens brick the car? So I did the OTA, and then did a long steering wheel reboot after just to clear out any cobwebs. Since then both fobs have worked flawlessly, behaving exactly as expected and I drove the car a LOT today. Charged at Tesla, no problem. Charged at home, no problem. Used Dream Drive 2 in horrendous traffic in curves on I95 at dusk, no problem. Showed 7 different people everything in the car, including some of my wife’s family who’s still in town from Korea, one of whom is an upper executive at Hyundai and big car enthusiast and everything worked every time, and he was super impressed and was sending pics of the car back to colleagues in Korea.

Here’s the thing, there are still some bugs, but at least with my car any alerts seem to be false and the screens come up quick, fob behaves exactly as it should, and the rest of the car is so damn good, that I feel like it would be a shame to let analysis paralysis prevent you from experiencing how awesome this vehicle is. I do tend to tolerate imperfections in things that otherwise make me happy, and the car is not perfect yet, but with 3.3.2 I have a lot more confidence in it already, so I’m sure any vehicle yet to be delivered will be even more stable.

My experience is that the car is very stable. I’ve had my GGT for a week and a half so have fairly recently built vehicle. It’s by far the most amazing car I’ve ever had. The only hiccup I’ve had is one episode of black screens that resolved with a soft reboot. I got the car understanding that being an early adopter means having to deal with some imperfections. I actually thinks it’s a plus. I feel like I’m supporting a company that’s trying to move the car industry forward and am happy to be able to play a small part in it.
 
Got my car back from the SC on Tuesday after 22 days in the shop. New center console allowed the software update to proceed. I have yet to not be able to go into drive when getting in the car.

A new issue popped up however. The GPS/Nav/Compass is quite erratic. My position constantly drifts and sometimes the compass flips 180° or it will show the car pointing east or west on a north or southbound road. I called the service center and they said to try a reset and give it a few days.

Are any of the GPS components affected by installing a new center console?
 
The gravity just let me drive all the way home from the sharks game (don’t want to talk about it) with the charge door open without making a peep. Ever.
Not when i started the car, or at any time during or at the end of my drive. I got out of the car to see the flap open in the air.

My last ICE car was a flex and it compares well functionally to the Gravity... i understand why she likes the FLEX. I call it the Stretch Volvo XC90. That said... I think we are maybe 2 to 3 major OTA's from the Gravity getting feature complete and debugged. Could hopefully be a half dozen micro bug fixers out during the wait. Love the car... so glad I got mine when I did.

Oddly enough, my last ICE car was also a Ford Flex. I actually liked that car a lot. It can’t be only a coincidence considering how few of them they actually sold.

I have no concerns about my ability to charge. We already have a 60 amp circuit with a charger outside our house, as we have plenty of friends with EVs who drive to Lake Tahoe to visit. Plus the long range and rapid charging rate of the Gravity should make for easy road trips. My concern is purely about whether the Gravity is baked enough to prevent my wife from yelling at me for spending so much money on an unreliable vehicle.

Do we have reason to think that the charge door has a sensor in it? I was under the impression that it didn't. The behavior doesn't surprise me.

My wife’s Volvo has a very similar charge door mechanism and it has no sensor either, she drove it with it open too.

It definitely has a sensor. I’ve left it open a couple of times as I am used to an automatic charge door and each time, I got in the car and there was a warning the charge door was open. It’s probably just associated with the state of the push button latch, so maybe, for some reason, your latch was pushed in (so it thought it was closed)…it wouldn’t be hard to have the latch in the “wrong” state once it’s open (accidentally).

The mobile tech was here yesterday. He said the mobile techs have not yet been sent what they need to reset the key fobs, although it is coming. Until then, he could not verify whether the Roswell Service Center did it.

Odd, as I know at least one person here said their mobile tech WAS able to do it. It’s another example of inconsistent communication and direction for Gravity service.

I do believe they’ll work it out, but it’s annoying.

Same. I forgot to close it yesterday and a big notification came on that it was open when I tried to put the car in gear (similarly used to automatic door so this will take a little getting used to.
