Gravity Bugs / Issues

Every outing in the Gravity is an adventure.

This evening we got in the car to go to dinner and encountered this:

We waited a full three minutes to see if the screens would come up, but nothing changed. So we finally did the X/mic/brake reboot. We put the car in reverse, and the "No Key Detected" warning popped up. But finally, after several minutes dicking around with the car, we finally got underway. (Those vertical lines in the glass cockpit are not a photographic artifact. They were there and brighter than appears in the photo.)

When we got back into the car after dinner, the driver seat (which was all the way back due to the entry/exit feature) would not move, neither by pressing the brake pedal nor with the seat controls. Finally, my partner (who was driving and had driven to dinner on his profile settings) decided to try the profile button. His profile button would not respond. So he tried mine, and everything moved to my settings. He then was able to get the seats and mirrors to move to his setting by finally getting the car to accept his profile. Again, several minutes spent trying to get the car to become drivable.

About half the time we get into this car, we end up in a hybrid game of twenty questions / whack-a-mole, trying to figure out what's out of whack this time and what to do about it. Sometimes it's a problem people have already reported (sometimes along with a workaround), and sometimes it's something new.

I swear, the UI software in this car is every bit as bad as UX 1.0 in the early Airs. Yes, the Gravity has more features, but that just means more to go wrong. I had hoped never to go through that again with a car.
I think it’s time to call it quits and ask Lucid to buy back this one and build a DE #451 or get you a top spec GGT and refund the difference for your troubles. I’m not even joking, I’ve literally never heard of any brand new car ever have so many issues (ok except for some early EX90s haha), it’s like you bought a 1980s Jaguar prototype or something. I will never suggest anyone do a lemon law, a buyback is not that, but your car is like it got buried in a Pet Sematary, keeps coming back wrong.

Yes. I has the same problem . The on line tech made me..
1. Get ot of the car
2. Lock the car with the FOB
3. Take out the battery from FOB
4. Put battery back in the Fob while simulataeouslt holding the lock button on the FOB. Then unlock the SUV. Get back
In the SUV. Then FOB was recognized by the SUV
Just had this happen for first time tonight. Indeed, fob wouldn’t work at all - after working all day.

Came inside, popped open fob, removed battery, held button, put battery back in.

Fob works fine. Two/three weeks ago I just changed the battery as I thought it was dead - this time, I knew better!

Odd, but car worked with key card and app to open/lock when fob wasn’t working.

And yes, I have all of the updates. Honestly, not a big deal to me at this point.

@Ron_Burgundy @hmp10

I recently saw this video trying to diagnose the source of a second row squeak. Does this sound like the same squeak or is it more of a rattle?

Yes, that is the exact squeak I had a while back that I "permanently" solved by putting the seats in the sweet spot and never moving them again! lol

It's depressing how many owners have had to find a "sweet spot" from which their second row seats cannot be moved lest rattles and squeaks return.

We are lucky that our "sweet spot" does not significantly reduce legroom or that it does not require one seat to be left forward of its neighbor. But it's still annoying to think that any time passengers move the seats we'll have to return the seats to the "sweet spot" when they get out.

I hope Lucid is not going to let it go at that. These are 6-figure vehicles, not Yugos. We need a comprehensive fix for this.

We had this happen after dinner last night. Fob seemed completely dead. Keycard worked.

Popped battery out while sitting in car.
It took a few moments for the car to recognize the fob, and when it did, the card on the display telling us where to place the key card gave the green checkmark as if the keycard was positioned correctly.

The only part that bums me out is this is clearly a fob issue (versus some antenna in the car) and they just updated the fob firmware, but it’s still happening.

That said, the other crazy fob stuff is effectively gone (but for error messages that aren’t actual errors). It’s a work in progress.

But as I turned out of our driveway, everything went haywire again. Suddenly the arrows showing the car's location on the upper and lower screens diverged. At one point driving down our street, the upper screen showed the car several hundred yards into the large lake on my left, while the lower screen showed the car heading for a cul-de-sac in a gated community several streets away to the right. Then the lower screen started spinning rapidly back and forth left to right as it had done earlier.
I'm not saying it was aliens, but...
Or maybe just try to find reasons to turn right a lot . . . .

How many of us have driven a Yugo?
I have.
Years ago, due to series of comical errors, I was given a Yugo from an airport rental for one day.
For the 3 hours I had the car, no problem with the key. The odometer was fine. No ghost image on the windshield..
No extraneous sounds, but you're really in tune with the surroundings since there wasn't much to insulate and isolate the driver.
The car drove ok.
You just had to be sure how to safely merge onto the freeway.
And, yes, the side mirror was manual, with a joystick.

How is it different? I thought a buyback is just the company admitting it's a lemon without having to fight them in court.
The optimal lemon law strategy is to use the car for a couple years and then get it lemoned (I know a couple people who were able to do that with BMWs. Those high pressure fuel pumps failed often enough)

The point is to get reimbursed for the aggravation and time lost on a vehicle that could barely be driven without some sort of problem occurring. Lucid has excellent customer service and they go far out of their way to make things right when a problem occurs. But it sounds to me like HMP10 vehicle has some critical fault/faults and it’s not doing him any good going through this Groundhog Day of issues, nor is it doing Lucid service any favors to spend all this time on a car that left the factory broken, nor is it doing Lucid any favors by the failures this car has had being plastered all over this thread for all to read about and shake their heads. Many many owners have cars that work great with few reliability issues but this one seems to be over the head of service or engineering to solve, but it’s also lousy to get lawyers involved by doing lemon law action, so it’s reasonable to handle it the more diplomatic way. Good will can only get you so far when you were unfortunately sold a terminally defective product, which it sounds like to me is what happened in HMPs case. I know of two other situations where Lucid really went the extra mile to solve recurrent problems with a vehicle, and Lucid kept them as a customer as a result. Their customer relations department is outstanding so lemon law is a dick move.

I had one instance of the rear collision warning sound continuing after backing up. Stayed on while driving until I backed into another area that would have activated the warning. Put car in drive, sound stopped.

Only happened once; 2k miles driven thus far.
Same thing happened to me a few days ago (day 5 with my new Gravity). Driving around did not stop the alarm “chime”, nor did locking and walking away from the car for several minutes. Steering wheel/brake pedal reset was unresponsive. Service tech on the phone said he had not heard of this, but 2 hours later, after OTA update, noise went away.
I am wondering about reported key fob issues and whether this event and other difficulties with software, profiles, recognition of usb port, could be due to the fob interfering with a clean “boot up” for the car. I plan to try using the key card only for a few days to test, while the key fob lives in a faraday pouch.

Ouch.

I sometimes worry about this. I am a stockholder in the company, after all. But I've talked to enough service people at Lucid about the issues with this car during its five weeks in Service Centers and several mobile tech visits . . . with another coming up this week just to verify a nav/GPS issue of which I've already sent them a video.

On one of of the earlier mobile tech visits I had told Lucid that the navigation system was frozen. The mobile tech checked the car and confirmed it was frozen. Then someone at Lucid HQ Engineering had him drive the car to film a video of the frozen screen while the car was moving. That didn't quite convince them, and he had to repeat the process. He spent about two hours just on this issue alone on that visit. And it didn't resolve it.

Then there were the issues, first with the navigation system and then with the replaced HUD, where the car wouldn't accept software downloads until the Service Centers set up conference calls with Lucid Engineering. And even then it took more than a second attempt.

I think there is something deep in the software/hardware of this car from which these issues are emanating, and I'm just tired of the report/verify/return/repeat cycle I'm in with it. I don't think Lucid is diving deep enough and is just trying to swat symptoms aside.

I think you can look at my posts on this thread as a cry for attention. And, no, I don't want to go the lemon law route, nor do I think I will need to. I still have faith that Lucid will ultimately resolve the issues with this car. But I'm groping for a way to make sure someone finally gets on with it, as I know they read this thread from time to time.

No at this point it’s not a cry for attention at all. FWIW supposedly the root of Volvo EX90 problems was an NVIDIA chipset that was problematic, I’d thought Gravity had the newer ones the EX90 is upgrading to to supposedly fix their massive issues (Orion chip or something?), but maybe I’m mistaken and they’re the same chips the EX90 has?

Yours got better after 3.3.2 OTA? Did you get frequent black screens with 3.3.2?

My experience with the warning sound/chime was before 3.3.2 was available.

No "key fob not found" messages until after 3.3.2.
The messages appear occasionally and briefly; never affecting drive.
Key fob also stays in faraday pouch.

The black screens (after 3.3.2) also appear occasionally and briefly with key fob and key card.

Curious if you've had the fob updated at your service center? I have not yet but want to try this process to determine if it improves fob performance.

I have, and it did, but I still got the error once. The difference is it appeared to not matter, as it still let me drive the car. I did the battery out/in dance anyway, and the error went away too.

Yes. Mine was updated at service center and has been significantly better/improved since that time. I still got some errors, but they were false as car worked and started fine.

However, last night it did have the issue that forced me to remove and reinsert fob battery. Again, they’re clearly making improvements, but haven’t squashed the bug(s) entirely.
