Gravity Bugs / Issues

Well, they may be gone because it’s not on in any way. Sounds like it’s off entirely…don’t want to be negative, but it’s possible.

Actually we were getting the blue oval and the dancing ghosts even with the unit turned off. They did not emanate from the projector or any other source internal to the unit but rather from sun and ambient light reflecting off the warped screen of the unit. There was a clearly visible bubble in the screen itself.

You can see it in this photo taken through the windshield when the car was turned off:

I'd be very interested in knowing that the blue oval is positively gone from new HUD units. It was quite distracting on my test drive, even with the HUD turned off, until we covered it with a cloth.

I do very much want that HUD, but the blue oval was very obtrusive.

Is that a 1000V V4, or a 450V V3.5 (V4 pedestal with V3 power conversion cabinets)?
Will be 450V. The first 1000V sites are still in permitting it seems. The 1000V sites will probably show 500kW when launched, not 325kW.

Interesting... I'm curious about this as well. We only see a "blue oval" in very specific seating and lighting positions, so I can't tell if this is expected operation. I definitely don't want them to replace our HUD in the eventual service if it's not necessary, but I do want as close to optimal operation on a new $140k+ vehicle.

Although the distortion in our HUD screen was extreme, there must have been at least some in a lot of the early HUDs, because several posters were seeing at least the blue oval if not the dancing ghosts. Someone here (maybe @borski?) said Lucid was looking at the possibility of a screen retrofit to cure the problem, so maybe it was common enough to warrant such a consideration.

My guess is that by now the problem has been rectified with the supplier so that new units don't have it.

A question about route planning in the Gravity . . .

I loaded in the destination for our upcoming road trip today to see what the navigation system displayed and how it handled charging stops. It showed three charge stops along the route, all of them Electrify America. In settings I had specified both EA and Tesla Superchargers as the chargers to be displayed.

I then set the system to display only Superchargers, but I still got those same three EA stops marked as the charging stops on the route. Superchargers came up on the list of chargers in our proximity, but I could not get them to display in route planning.

Is this a bug or has Lucid just not yet finished programming the systems? Or am I doing something wrong?

The Hubble "contact lens"! But for Gravity.

The blue reflection I saw was a large rectangle with possibly rounded corners (I don't recall exactly). It was the size of the HUD's field of view rather than a local aberration. We covered it up quickly, so I didn't notice if it was less distracting with the car traveling in a different direction relative to the sun.

I test drove a few days ago. Regarding the HUD and blue oval, in the one I test drove it was a non issue. If I put the seat all the way down and bent down 8" into a position I would never be in then I could clearly see the oval. It's obviously a reflection of the HUD screen, not sure why this seems to be a mystery. This is not a design problem or something that needs to be or will be fixed in my opinion. Somebody previously mentioned this but for above average height people I don't think this will be visible at all in any normal position. I think most average height people it will also be a non issue unless you sit very low and have a short torso Putting your eye level just above the dash

I had zero undesirable HUD reflection on my test drive on a bright Sunday day.

Campbell, CA will be one of the first TRUE V4 Supercharger sites to come online

Our blue oval was visible from all first and second row seating positions, and there was no seat adjustment that avoided it. These photos were taken from the front passenger seat:

I imagine that your experience is what they were shooting for with the HUD. The fact that a number of early owners have a worse experience is evidence of some kind of defect or design problem. But hopefully it has now been addressed, and wont be seen in new vehicles produced.

The blue oval isn’t visible for me 100% of the time but when it is visible there’s no amount of seat adjusting I can do to get rid of it. It seems to be caused by plain old Mother Nature and you just happening to be on the wrong road at the wrong time. I’ve never noticed this on other vehicles I’ve owned with HUD’s but they also haven’t been as big.

I’m hoping they can make the protective piece over the HUD less reflective so it doesn’t cast as much reflection into the windshield. Sounds like something is in the works so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

The blue area I saw was much larger the @hmp10 's photo and roughly rectangular. My impression was that I was looking at glare from direct sunlight on a turned-off monitor screen.
I'm 5' 10" tall, pretty average, and had the seat adjusted to also what I'd consider an average height.

I have not seen a V4 at a higher voltage, I think they plan on 800v at some point. When V4 is referenced it usually means V4 pedestal which implies longer charge cable and sometimes a built in screen. All the new installations do seem to be coming in with more pedestals. A good reference to track Tesla Superchargers is supercharge.info

I usually see locations with V4 stands, but V3 cabinets, referred to as V3.5. It's important to be able to differentiate 450V stations from 1000V stations if you own an 800-1000V car.
