Gravity Bugs / Issues

I already apologized a few times for any confusion my post caused.
Again, to be clear, I wasn't attacking you - I was mostly posting that because it hadn't been posted before, and so I could point to it for future folks who have the same question.

You aren't the first, nor the last :P I really didn't mean for it to sound like I was admonishing you in that last one. <3

Lol all good but appreciate it. I’m just trying to figure out why the car is acting like this and how likely it is that these issues will be fixed in a reasonable amount of time, and i don't even own the car! But, that’s how much i really love this vehicle and want Lucid to be successful. As i said, thanks for further elaborating. Wasn’t trying to spew garbage.

When you try to engage DD do you have a gray icon of the steering wheel on the dash with target speed value next to it? It indicates that DD is available.
When my DD wasn't engaging I never had such icon because it couldn't sense my hands on the wheel, then it wouldn't matter how many times I pressed the button.
My point is to determine if DD is available, but not engaging, or maybe it's not available due to other reasons.
no wheel shows up either, clearly something is wrong and I have an appointmernt

This is a picture of the rear climate control screen. It doesn’t have the steering wheel control. It does have on/off for the rear in the middle of the screen. If you touch the front button you will find what you are looking for.
no sir pic was taken from my front seat, Ron Burgundy also confirmed its happened to him

You might want to check it again. When you access the climate controls from the co-pilot panel you can access both front and rear controls (at least on mine). There is a selection for front or rear. The front selection has all the buttons, the rear has only on/off, auto, temps and seat heat. I got confused by this once when it came up in rear mode.

The wheel only shows up when DD is available to use. So if there are no lines in the road or you’re in some weird construction zone the icon won’t show.

That said, it sounds like it should’ve been showing in your use case.

This is what my climate control panels look like in

4-5 times on highways with no construction - Rte 76 PA Tpike, Rte 476 AC Expressway Rte 309 highway part Rte 202 highway part

something isnt right as such I have a service appt

My crystal ball says your steering wheel assembly will be replaced...

Sorry I see why you’d say that now- but yeah I was pushing all buttons including both rear and front to see if I could get it working
Guess the pic was after hitting the rear but it was on the front when they disappeared

Randomly missing UI buttons is one of the main features in Gravity software, this is how your car expresses its mood, it wants to be held, cherished and caressed, then sleep for a bit and all will be good again :p

Update on the left steering pad not working. We have to take it in as an engineering problem that mobil service can't fix. So my guess is we get a new steering wheel too. How long did the service appointment take for you with that? The service tech we have been working with said they have steering wheels and pads in stock, once they determine what needs to be replaced. We can't get into Tysons SC until Dec 9, however, and that is apparently because an opening came up. They are booked out through mid-January otherwise! I asked about an alternative to a hard reboot if we need that, and he said letting the car "go to sleep" should clear problems and it takes about 20 minutes for the car to fall asleep (wish I could fall asleep that quickly). Does this fall asleep generally work to clear a problem?
Another update on this. We had a service appointment scheduled for next Tuesday. Just received a call from our helpful service guy that this is becoming a known problem - either just one pad or both going bad - so they are working on updated pads. Delivery is supposedly end of December, and our appointment has been changed to reflect that.

I remember we all criticized Consumer Reports when they focused on this during their review, but I guess they were right

Praying they delay production of Lunar Titanium even more to get more of all this worked out before I take delivery. I really don't want to cancel my order as there's just nothing else out there that checks all my boxes Like Gravity but these bug discussions are getting depressing 😫

They have a customer care number and they do take down all the info to give to the teams internally and will reach back out if they need more. It’s not realistic to expect one person to listen to every owner complain - yes, most are real issues, but they have to triage and leverage resources. They DO also monitor the forums and Reddit. That’s better than Tesla or Rivian in my experience. Tesla won’t even pick up the phone.

As @HC_79 said, if you can give a time when the issue happened, it’s much more helpful to them so they can look at logs.

Not trying to blindly defend Lucid, but also trying to be realistic about how they can provide scaled service, be responsive, etc. No perfect answer here. Very hard to scale.
I'd be surprised if Lucid wasn't fully aware of all the issues being discussed. Between them monitoring this forum, plus the complaints one can find in other forums, the various service calls they get, and their own internal testing, they have to be aware. Rather than trying to respond to individual owners, they could satisfy a lot of people by just being more upfront about issue tracking, and perhaps having a roadmap for which issues they're trying to address in the next couple of OTA updates.

8. Production variability = lingering bugs

New model years keep introducing revised hardware:
  • New sensors
  • Updated HVAC systems
  • New Ethernet gateways
  • New driver-assistance modules
Each requires new firmware. New firmware introduces new bugs.

Older cars and newer cars run different stacks — which makes bug fixing more complicated.

So why is the Gravity experiencing the same issues?

Because Gravity’s electronics and software stack are essentially:

Lucid Air v1.5, not a fully new generation.
It inherited:
  • The same core UI and infotainment
  • The same OTA infrastructure
  • The same gateways
  • The same ECU architecture
  • The same bugs migrating to a new platform
Until Lucid launches a true Software 2.0 architecture, these issues will persist across both models.

- Why hasn’t Lucid fixed everything in 3+ years?

Because fixing deep, foundational software issues requires:
  • Major architectural rewrites
  • A lot of personnel
  • Thousands of cars generating data
  • Millions of cumulative miles
  • Many OTA cycles
  • Manufacturing stability
Lucid hasn’t had the scale, time, or workforce to do this at the speed needed.

The hard truth:

The Air is still having issues because:

Lucid took a “Tesla-level ambition” approach with a “startup-sized team” and “small-volume testing data.”

It’s not that they can’t fix things — it’s that they can’t fix them fast.

The problems aren’t “one bug.”

They are architectural.
As an engineer with decades of experience with software of this complexity, I don't think the AI's suppositions about the source of the problem are either accurate nor particularly useful.
