Gravity Bugs / Issues

Interesting update/info for this with “double frunk” opening issue.

Mobile tech told me it’s actually a software issue. There are two parts to frunk opening:

1) Latch opening and then
2) struts push forward and up to open

Software issue is struts pushing too early so they hit the latch before it’s open. Then, on second try, latch is already open so struts just push forward and up. Probably not describing it well…

BUT, that explains why mine has been fixed twice but not fixed. And explains why we see a “flex” on hood while struts push against latch on first attempt.

Hopefully, they will fix soon.
Interesting as this only started happening to me in 3.3.2 and 3.3.5

I felt like I had a legit latch issue that was fixed twice while it was on .1 - then this double opening thing IS more of later software issue. But could all be coincidence. Mobile tech was really smart about Gravity and knew a ton, so I’m included to believe him.

I've not seen much posting from other owners about this problem. Are we the only ones? And what could be causing it? It happens no matter what source we're streaming and also when listening to a USB music stick.
You are not the only one, I reported the same issue in one of multiple bugs threads here, it's hard to keep up with all these bugs.
Happened to me on one long drive, super annoying, then went away after a sleep and/or reset. That was before the Music app completely left the building, only to be resurrected in a fresh driver profile.

You explained it perfectly, it's exactly what I'm observing in my car, so maybe there is no need to mess with latches when I bring it to SC next week, just wait for eventual software fix.

Same. I was going to talk to our mobile tech when he's here next Tuesday, but with @Ron_Burgundy's helpful info I can cross it off the list.

Wow, it's really scary to realize that such a safety related feature is at the mercy of Lucid's 'compromise nothing' software. Thought there was some NTSB rule about manual safety hood release.

How is the frunk a safety related feature? From inside the frunk you can open it by hitting the button. Maybe twice, if the bug is as described, but it still works. 🤷‍♂️

I used to think that I had one of the less problem-prone GGTs, but things are starting to stack up. In addition to a frozen map, the speed limit sign recognition only show 15 or 21 mph signs, regardless of the actual limit or car speed. No variety of reboot or sleep has worked. I’ll add it to my service appointment, but the earliest I can get in is December.

I’m pretty patient and I knew there’d be bugs, but I really don’t have time shuttle this thing back and forth to the service center regularly. It’s disappointing to see bad software overshadow the rest of the car.

The problem is if you're driving down the highway and the computer decides the frunk should open, the wind catches it and throws it up covering or into the front window.

I know the manual says the frunk is disabled when in Forward or Reverse, but is that a physical disconnect like a relay opening a switch when powered. I see no way to make even that failsafe. Of course the Gravity would never randomly do something like that:confused:

Federal requirements for hood latches
FMVSS No. 113: Hood Latch System
  • Requirement for a primary latch: Every vehicle hood must be equipped with at least one hood latch system.
  • Requirement for a secondary (safety) latch: A secondary latch is only mandated for "front opening hoods" that could partially or completely block the driver's forward view if they were to come unlatched while driving.

Reasoning behind the rule
The secondary latch prevents a hood from flying open and obstructing the driver's view if the primary latch fails. For hoods that are not front-opening, such as those that open from the side or are essentially vertical, a secondary latch is not required because it does not pose the same risk of flying open.
How the system works
The dual-latch system is a standard feature on most vehicles:
  1. Primary latch: This is released by the cable handle inside the vehicle, which causes the hood to pop open slightly.
  2. Secondary latch: This must be released manually from outside the vehicle by reaching under the hood and disengaging a second, smaller lever.
Who sets the standards
  • National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA): As an agency under the Department of Transportation, NHTSA has the authority to issue and enforce Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for new vehicles.

Yes I experienced it today. My AGT was limited to 12MPH because it stated the frunk was open. I could not open it or close it. It was caught midway. Eventually I got it to open and then close correctly and the 12 MPH limit went away.

That’s good to know, my DD cancel button doesn’t act like it’s capacitive even though the wheel does, many times it doesn’t work at all so I have to use the brake pedal to cancel DD. Glad I haven’t had the shift into reverse issue.
Trust me, I was very surprised to experience the difference. When it comes to something like button presses registering we all assume we’re experiencing the same thing with different expectations. The difference between this loaner and my car is so noticeable that I was somewhat shocked. I texted my SA as soon as I got home and parked.

I think the difference is the capacitive piece. I know I am repeating myself, but I think it’s important to understand there’s likely only one moving piece for each d-pad. Doesn’t explain why they’d be varying degrees of sensitive among production models, but interesting to know. Could be different suppliers.

Let us know what your SA says…

But that’s not what’s happening. The frunk is not randomly opening on folks. The issue some people are having is the frunk not opening the first time they ask it to. Nobody has reported it opening without their asking.

My latest workarounds:
1) Black screens on entry seem to clear faster with pressing the brake pedal. (Maybe this is just the psychosomatic "pressing the walk button" even though it does nothing, though.)

2) Creating a new profile and deleting the old one confirmed to fix the "Music doesn't load" profile corruption. You also have to go through and reset all of your profile settings, seats, mirrors, etc, etc.

3) Creating a new profile ALSO fixes the "Lucid Vibes defaults to white" for us! So the color choice not sticking also looks like this weird user profile corruption.

4) Turning climate off and back on seems to always resolve the hurricane-force wind on entry. Notably, before turning off climate the passenger settings are active but the driver settings are always greyed out (which makes no sense)

I really recommend that Lucid hire a software QE team. Also, perhaps give every software engineer they have a Gravity and not allow them to drive anything else until the bugs are resolved.

I also have this bug and can never tell if my climate is actually on or off, thinking that it’s just a display status out of sync, so I either toggle climate off/on or toggle Sync button, which activates driver settings.

Excellent idea!
