Gravity Bugs / Issues

The curse continues.

We got our Gravity DE back last night after over three weeks in the Roswell Service Center for a rear drive unit failure. We drove it a bit last night, and everything seemed fine. Today we took it to run some errands. As we were pulling into a parking space at a shopping center, the image on the navigation screen began to rotate back and forth rapidly, then started to spin, and finally froze. We went in to do our shopping, hoping it would reset while we were gone.

When we returned, the screen was still frozen in a position about 45º off the compass orientation to which it had been set. We drove a coupe of miles and pulled into another parking lot to do an X/mic/brake reboot. That did not resolve the problem.

This was one of the problems the car had earlier been at the Miami Service Center for two weeks to resolve. It looks like it's soon to be towed back there. My guess is that the GPS system that was the problem earlier has returned.

That sucks, @hmp10. It's really frustrating to hear your experience and I can't imagine what you must be feeling.

Just curious: Why does it need to be towed back to the service center? Does this issue render the car impossible or unsafe to drive, or is the tow just a matter of your own personal convenience?

We are across the state from the two Florida Service Centers, both of which are on the east coast and are a 2.5- and 3.5 hours drive from us. Actually, what Lucid usually does is have an employee drive to Naples in a loaner that they leave with us while they drive our car to the Service Center. They use a truck only when our Lucids are undriveable, which has been the case a couple of times.

I just referred to it as "towing" for shorthand reasons.

So, sadly, I’ve lost track @hmp10 - your newest GDE is getting PPF now, right? So not 100% sure that car is cursed, correct?

On the cursed one, really does feel like they should give you a Gravity loaner, at a minimum. I am never the “Lemon law” guy, but your first GDE certainly feels like it’s got legit fundamental issues they can’t chase down. Has to be a better solution than going to the shop, getting “fixed” but not really and then repeating. One would think they’d test the crap out of it before giving it back to you at this point. I am a pretty calm person, but I’d probably be losing my sh-t at this point and insisting they give me an inventory Gravity for however long it takes them to get your GDE to 100%. Looks like they have plenty Gravity in FL. Wont be your specs - I get it, but better than nothing. I guess you’ve got your Air.

Sorry you’re going through all of this.

That’s my understanding, too.

Our second GDE was delivered directly to the PPF installer, as I did not want the temptation of driving it before it was wrapped. As I've posted before, we live near sand quarries and often get stuck behind convoys of dump trucks that sometimes mix small stones into the fog of fine sand they often spray. (You'd have to see the fine scratches in the film on the hood of our Air to appreciate how much this matters to me.) It's been there over a week, because this week is the first opening they had, and they won't even start the 5-7 day job of wrapping it until tomorrow.

Unfortunately, that means I have no idea whether it will be an experience similar to what we're seeing with the first GDE. It certainly does not have the obvious issues our first Gravity had, such as the badly-warped HUD screen, the frozen nav system, the misaligned wheel arch trim, the rattling second row seats.

As we have other cars I don't want to tie up a Lucid loaner. As a stockholder, I am seriously worried about what the Gravity launch issues are costing Lucid.

As for lemon laws, this cursed GDE has already met the criteria for Florida's lemon law. But it's not a road I anticipate going down, first because I don't think Lucid would force me into that to make things right, whatever that turns out to be. Second, I think the Dream Edition production might have ended by the time I know what the outcome is going to be with the current car, and I don't know whether Lucid could/would produce one more.

But - my fob is working, so I should shut up. 🤣
I’m in the same boat! lol!

My easy entry / exit stopped working 2 weeks after delivery so haven’t had it do anything for 3 months. I used the button to put the rear seats down, the drivers seat moved forward, spat out some warning on the screen and they’ve never worked since.

My car is in the SC now getting all the issues fixed since taking delivery, they’ll no doubt re-home the seat to get it all working again.

Yes, this is consistent across the Tech Package. Theory is that it is off when driving so as not to be a distraction.
I encounted a bug one night where they stayed on and can see why Lucid has set them to off. It reflects quite badly on the windshield. They should just add in an option to let the driver decide whether they want them on or not though.

the thing is, it was working on 3.3.1 so I don’t think it’s a feature 🤔

It’s never been on while driving in the 3+ months since taking delivery. As stated above it came on once as a bug no doubt as it disappeared next time I got into the car. It would certainly drive some people insane if they were on while driving.

The Green Machine Saga, Chapter 312:

After waiting several hours, I took the Gravity for a drive to see if anything else had gone wrong. When I powered the car up, the satellite maps were showing the car in its current location, so I thought the system might have reset. But as I turned out of our driveway, everything went haywire again. Suddenly the arrows showing the car's location on the upper and lower screens diverged. At one point driving down our street, the upper screen showed the car several hundred yards into the large lake on my left, while the lower screen showed the car heading for a cul-de-sac in a gated community several streets away to the right. Then the lower screen started spinning rapidly back and forth left to right as it had done earlier.

As I approached the end of our street almost two miles from our house, I put on the turn signal to turn right. When I did, the arrows on the upper and lower screens instantly fell into sync and snapped back to the actual location of the car, and for the rest of the drive the navigation system seemed to function normally.

But it's clearly not a system I can rely on for navigating unfamiliar territory, as whether or not it's going to work is a total crap shoot.

Or maybe just try to find reasons to turn right a lot . . . .

Okay, while ours works, clearly it’s not a one-off problem.

Here’s hoping it just stays fine forever now lol

Do you live near a military base or airport by chance? Haha

No, but I think the "Roswell Service Center" might be a cover for something. I think I caught a glimpse of a few gurneys in the back.

You jest but I’ve been avoiding left turns across traffic because my front left signal light is unreliable!

Thankfully it’s the only real issue so far and will be transported to the SC next week to fix.

OR, you should insist on a center console replacement. I am telling you, that thing is like the Bermuda Triangle or a Ouija board.

My center console “only” crushes cell phone GPS and signal, so it’s just on the list of things to get done. But its power is unbounded. Of this, I am sure.

This is quite reminiscent of the navigation on my Air. Several attempts failed until they replaced the TCU.
Does you Homelink pop up appropriately?

It does, but it usually takes several attempts to hit the button just right. Very aggravating.

When the TCU failed, my HomeLink wouldn't be geofenced and wouldn't come up when I arrived home.

That makes sense, since that uses GPS, which lives in the TCU.

Interesting. We just got back from dinner, and the navigation system worked fine. However, the geofencing didn't bring up Homelink when we left or when we got home.

It seems something is in progressive failure mode. My guess is I can expect a total failure soon -- the state in which the car was first delivered.

I'll pass this along to the Service Center. However, they first want a mobile tech to look at the car, I suppose to have him verify the behavior, and the mobile tech can't get here until Thursday because his schedule is loaded. Who knows what it'll be doing by then?

And, as usual, I'm back to managing my schedule around Lucid service issues more than driving the car . . . and it's just getting more tiresome by the day.

I really, really, really hoped that when we got the car back from Roswell I could finally start posting about how amazing a ride and drive it is. But that ain't in the cards, it seems.

They did that to me, too.
Despite several videos documenting the erratic behaviors of the GPS, a tech and then a manager drove my car to replicate the problems.
Hope they fix yours soon.
