Gravity 3.5.1

I hate CarPlay and think it has no place in vehicles of this price point when they now have native apps and connectivity integrated directly into the car. So i'm hoping when people see how outdated it looks and with its big ass icons people may turn to the dark side and just use the native UI. Very wishful thinking on my part though :p
I feel just the opposite. I find it extremely useful, especially the integrated Calendar, navigation, and texting functionality. I will never buy a car that does not have CarPlay.

Do you have a 'Wallpaper' option, because I don't? :(

The only option I have is to use a wallpaper from my phone. So, the only way I found to have a black background on my screen is to set a black image as a background on my phone and then turn on "Use phone's wallpaper". But yeah, it's an AA-related issue.
Yes we went through this when it was first introduced on Air.

The only thing I care about regarding AA and Carplay is Google Maps.

If the car had native google maps I would care zero about AA/Carplay. HERE Maps is highly mediocre on a good day. Yes it will get you from point A to point B most of the time but the waypoint search is severely lacking, the actual GPS pin of the destination is sometimes off by 100-1000+ yards, the routing is intermittently nonsensical, and the traffic data is inaccurate.

There is a reason Google Maps DOMINATES the market share of online mapping and it's because their product is, by far, the best one out there. Everything else is.....pun incoming....a compromise.

Finished my first 250 mile trip this morning. Overall I really like it. I’m a big Apple Car Play fan. Did notice 2 minor issues.
1. Driving down the interstate highway in hot Arizona, the HVAC just stopped working. No fans, no cooling. The HVAC display showed the system as powered on. Gravity was getting hot fast. Pushed the button to power off the HVAC, then pushed it again to power on. HVAC came on and cooled as it is designed to do. No further HVAC issue during the trip.
2. Made a stop, after returning to the Gravity, Apple Car Play restarted as it should, but got a “Loading” display message that never went away. See attached. I just got home and will reboot the vehicle to see if it clears. I expect it will.

A 1000 mile trip planned for next week. Really want to see the improvements to DC fast charger speed. It was great before, might be mind blowing now.

Before 3.5.1, I had several persistent, but minor bugs: 1) parking cameras unavailable, 2) cameras would turn off after 5-10 seconds and then come back on after 3-5 seconds, and keep repeating that until I turned off the cameras (both turn signal and parking), 3) every time I put the Gravity in park, I would get an error "unable to record videos" and "service cameras," and 4) occasionally, the seats would not go to their memory position from the easy entry position and the saved steering wheel position would drift over time such that I had to reset the position and resave it. I also had one comparatively major annoyance - the call quality audio when using hands-free was so bad that it was effectively unusable - I had to use speakerphone on my iPhone.

I installed 3.5.1 last night. I spent some time last night and today testing the update and doing the stuff that I used to be able to do to replicate the bugs. So far, I have yet to be able to replicate any of the bugs I listed above. I also tried the hands-free calling and my wife said it was a revelation how much better it was compared to 3.4.4 and that I sounded "great." Our other vehicle is an iX, which I think has great hands-free call quality and she thinks the Gravity now rivals that quality. I am blown away as I did not think that would be possible - I was hoping for tolerable (like our old Honda Odyssey or Model Y) and it far exceeds that now.

I tried to break CarPlay, too. Last night, I saw two Gravities listed in my Bluetooth settings on my phone (we only have one). I think that is because I removed my phone from my Gravity but did not remove the Gravity from my phone. The result? When I got into the Gravity this morning, CarPlay did not work. I deleted out both Gravities out of my phone and my phone out of the Gravity, re-paired everything, and it has worked seamlessly since then. I know some folks like CarPlay and some don't, but I really like just getting into my car and having my podcast start right where I left off without me having to do anything. I also like that I can now run Waze/Google Maps in the top screen while having the native navigation running in the lower screen and doing the charging stop calculations and preconditioning. Would I like it if Google Maps, Waze, ABRP, etc. could do that? Yes. But this is good enough for me.

My Gravity has been one of the ones that has had fewer problems even though it is a well equipped earlier production one (September 20 delivery date with all options except HUD and trailer hitch - with power package). Even so, there have been enough bugs that my wife has not been keen to drive it. After the 3.4.1 update, she was willing to take it on a road trip up to Canada because she needed the space. It had a few issues with the cameras failing, but they went away with a reboot, so she thought it went okay, but not great. She has a small road trip tonight and tomorrow. After I told her about my experience with this update so far, she was bummed that I charged up the iX instead of the Gravity as she wants to take the Gravity even though it is just her and one of our kids. To me, that is a huge vote of confidence in the Gravity. I'm going to see how things progress over the next few weeks but I think I am ready to start recommending the Gravity to the typical person, not just patient early adopter-types.

Thank you, Lucid, for your continued hard work and rapid improvements to this vehicle. It is a very different (and WAAAYYY better) user experience today compared to when I first took delivery back in September.

Actually that is not true. As of iOS 26.4, CarPlay does support video streaming apps. The catch is that both the video app and car need to support CarPlay video streaming. I believe Apple calls it “Video in the car” and it is referred to on their CarPlay page for developers.

IOS 26.4 is not yet available for general release (at least according to my iphone)

Anyone with premium sound system tried playing music thru CarPlay and see if they miss Atmos or notice any loss of sound quality? If native Tidal sounds notably better than CarPlay, that would be a deal breaker for me.
Native Tidal still sounds best. Carplay sounds better than Bluetooth but you can't do the atmos integration via carplay/aa

It’s in the CarPlay app in Settings on the iPhone.

Unfortunately seems like AC charging issue still here for those following that issue (@GravitMe iirc ). The GT on 3.5.1 on my home 48A charger, starting at ~30% SOC held 11kw for 30-40 minutes and dropped to 7kw. The DE still is able to hold 11kw for entire multiple hours charging sessions though. cc @marqie if this is something you can potentially help confirm or check on please 🙏
My 48A charger holds 11kw for the entire charge. Maybe a hardware issue?

Thank you, I will mention this data point next time to my SC, they had mentioned comparing it to other GT's they had and seeing similar behavior as mine 😅

Its close. Like within days, as the release candidate is out. Been messing with the betas on some of my other devices and should be pretty nice for when it does release. I hope Lucid will allow video while parked. That would do a lot to make a lot of users happy, I would imagine.

Tested out CarPlay using Waze. That works well, BUT Waze and the Lucid navigation don't work concurrently. Turning on the Lucid nav stops Waze and vice versa.
That's a bummer - I'd like to see both - Waze shows me accidents, cops, etc and Lucid nav will route to chargers.

There doesn't seem to be any change in the DreamDrive Pro. I was hoping for an update on the self-driving and the Auto Park, but I guess we'll wait until the next update
This is the only reason I wanted CarPlay, to run Waze concurrently with Lucid Nav. What’s the point? Now I’ll be back to running Waze on my phone.

I have it on my phone but haven't looked to see if it works in the RC. I'll be going out soon so I'll give it a try then. I doubt it'll work though, when Lucid showed video playback it looked like a native app and that'll probably be how they allow video some day.

I briefly experimented with this for that same use case but was unable to use Google maps and Native navigation at same time.

I had google maps going on top screen, and when i hit a destination on the native maps in the bottom screen it canceled the routing directions in the google maps. This was reported by somebody above as well

Anyone reporting differently?

Edit: Several people reporting the same.

This is working as designed.

As @Bobby said, this is the intended behavior, as two navigation systems would conflict (audio guidance, actions in the cluster display, etc.) .I have the same behavior on my X5 - Google Maps shows guidance arrows on both the cluster display and in the HUD, which is very convenient.

On BMW, Apple CarPlay actually shows a secondary map in the instrument cluster. Then it shows the next turn in the heads up. This is a very nice implementation. If the overall route is on the main CarPlay screen, it shows the zoomed in turn by turn view on the dashboard. Those can be swapped as well.
