From Tesla to Lucid Gravity: Issues I’ve Found (Help Expand the List)

You keep mentioning this and you’ve been told repeatedly it’s coming via Apple Digital Key soon
I don't use Apple products except in my airplane and that's only because my chosen navigation app doesn't run on Android.

Okay?

Mobile key, when released, will not only work on Apple devices; I’d be extremely surprised if that were the case.

Im Not a fan of the Tesla overheat protection. It’s great as a list item. Does little to nothing other than run down the battery and, esp for older models, make the compressor work overtime. It gets loud next to the car when things on.

I switched it off and haven’t looked back.
Use it all the time… wish it were on Lucid… just a variation on camp mode…

This is correct. I confirmed it with Lucid execs yesterday at San Jose opening.

Some of this stuff I just don't understand. First thing I did driving home with my new Gravity was call my daughter to see first hand this microphone issue. Oops, she said I was loud and clear. You complain about to many alerts; why don't you just turn them off like I did. Lucid had two choices with alerts, either default them to on and let us turn them off or default to off and let us turn them on. They chose to default them on. Live with it. If you like your Tesla so much better why did you leave? You sound like a dude that cheated on his girlfriend and then spends everyday telling his new girlfriend how much prettier his old girlfriend was.
Bluetooth call quality where the other party can't hear me well is a huge concern on our Gravity. The quality is horrendous. People are constantly asking me to repeat myself because audio ducks in and out and there is constant "wind" noise spiking up even if I'm driving with barely any AC on and windows closed. Either the microphone is defective or noise cancellation is unpredictably aggressive. The car is currently in service with one of the items being this BT issue.

LA county has 10 million residents compared to your 3.2 million in San Diego. I know HERE collects info from cars to determine traffic patterns, congestion, etc. More cars sending real time data back means more accuracy. Might be a reason why LA seems more accurate because of sheer volume of drivers compared to SD sending data back.
Just because Lucid is using HERE maps doesn't mean they're also using HERE for traffic data. There are a number of potential traffic information sources from which OEMs can choose, such as Inrix.

I'm not yet a Gravity owner, but here are some Tesla features that we do love:
• Dashcam / Sentry Cam. The latter saved me $2800 as it caught the owner of a house I had parked in front of backing out of his driveway and scrapping my car. AND coming back to check the damage and not leaving a note. With his neighbor, my friend, confronting him, he covered the damage costs.
• For those vehicles with air suspension, be able to adjust ride comfort and handling independently. These are NOT incompatible - comfort adjust spring/shock rate while handling detects curves and keeps the car level.
• Charge Windows. Tell the car your cheapest TOU electricity start/stop and the car will charge only during that time OR tell you it won't complete the charge during the next charge window if it can't. Tesla calls this "Charge Schedules" and you can have multiple, and choose them from your phone.
• Charge-By time. Instead of charge at a time, the car starts charging on its own to be at your desired charge level by a certain time.
• Pre-Road tripping charge. If you change the charge limit to be above 80%, the car will ask if you want this level permanently or just this one time.
• Priority Bluetooth device. If two people have paired their phones and both are in the car, this has the car choosing which you want to be connected. Some cars do which got to the car first, which isn't as good. This is over-rideable of course.
• Video streaming services while parked at a charger. Netflix, Hulu, Prime, Paramount+, etc.
• Remember your preferred drive mode. I suspect Lucid can't actually implement this because the EPA wants the most efficient drive mode to be choosen automatically each time you start the car. But, it would be great for some of us to start in Swift instead of Smooth.
• I think Lucid has an "easy exit/entry," and hopefully it handles both moving the seat to a specific position AND moving the steering wheel to a specific position - and then back to your driving position. And that this is per driver so one driver can have easy exit/entry while the other just has their driving position. And detected from FOB/Phone as to which driver.
• The whole finding of fast chargers, auto-choosing of chargers, abiility to over-ride which chargers for some and re-calc for others needed, that takes into account SOC for faster charging AND how busy those chargers are (if Tesla, EVGo, etc. provide that info). It took Tesla several years to get this right, but now that it is, it's very convenient.
• Does the Gravity start music every time you get in the vehicle? Many cars do this, but I personally find it annoying, especially since the volume I ended a ride at is almost certainly not the volume I want to start a ride at. It should remember that I was listening to BT or radio or whatever and auto-select that, but not actually start playing until I tell it. At least make this a driver preference.

I can say I haven’t had the same issue. Bluetooth calling has been fine.

I suspect it will improve with AA/CarPlay anyway

Halo Secure exists now.

Yes. You can adjust Smooth/Swift/Sprint separately from regen and the height.

It has a “start” time but no “stop” time today. You can set the schedule on an EVSE though.

Gravity doesn’t do that, but doesn’t prevent you from lowering it right after it’s charged.

Based on the profile, same as Air.

• Video streaming services while parked at a charger. Netflix, Hulu, Prime, Paramount+, etc.
Not yet, but it’s been seen in in the in-car “demo of the future”

Literally impossible, unfortunately, for the reasons you mention.

And that this is per driver so one driver can have easy exit/entry while the other just has their driving position. And detected from FOB/Phone as to which driver.
Yes to all of that except setting a specific position. At the moment easy entry/exit moves the seat all the way back, steering wheel all the way up, and height either all the way up or down. All optional, and you can set it to do one or two or all three.

• The whole finding of fast chargers, auto-choosing of chargers, abiility to over-ride which chargers for some and re-calc for others needed, that takes into account SOC for faster charging AND how busy those chargers are (if Tesla, EVGo, etc. provide that info). Lucid nav does this. You can select preferred charging networks, travel style (more stops or longer stops), etc. It will also automatically precondition as you drive to a charging stop.

TBH, I don’t know! One of the first things I always do is set up my music, so I’ve never actually let it try haha. I’ll have to test this.

I guess, no? Not if I select music faster than it gets to? :p

As for CarPlay, the only "piece" for Apple to do is test and approve, they don't have development to do. I've lead intotainment development for two automotive OEMs, both doing CarPlay, so I have real world experience with this. You buy the special chip from Apple and put it in your system, and then the programming is all on you. Apple has great documentation, and describes their testing well. They work with you during development, but unless you find a bona-fide bug, they aren't coding anything themselves. Heck, once the chip is in your infotainment system, CarPlay can work - that's how you develop and test.
Do we have any confirmation from Lucid that they remembered to put the Apple authentication chip in their computer. Perhaps they thought they could do without. That would explain the delay in CarPlay.

The delay is Lucid’s own doing. Nick Twork’s recent Facebook post suggest it’s all hands on deck to address the fob issue and get stability into the system. At the time of delivery I was told mobile key would be a couple of months away now it seems we’ll be lucky to see it by Christmas. Don’t expect CarPlay anytime soon by the sound of it.

I'll try again. Do we have any confirmation from Lucid that they remembered to put the Apple authentication chip in their computer.

Sorry for the repeat, but hopefully someone from Lucid will give me a yes or no answer.

You really think they’re that stupid? Of course it has everything needed to support Apple CarPlay!

Did you not see how this played out on the Air? Took over a year or so for them to actually implement it with Android Auto taking much longer.

In the almost 4 years of owning an Air, cabin overheat has never been an issue. I'm wondering why Tesla needed to have the feature in the first place, but I have not heard a single instance of anything going wrong in the Lucid due to cabin heat. Maybe it's just not needed in the Lucid.
I love cabin overheat protection. It prevents melting plastic products and exploding soda cans in the car. It does make a difference when I step in a hot car: very tolerable when turned on and very intolerable if the feature is not used.

I can manually pre-cool my Lucid but it's unpredictable because sometimes the phone app works, sometimes it has a running circle indicating that it tries to wake the car up unsuccessfully.

Also, if the phone app works 100%, my brain doesn't and I would forget to manually pre-cool the car until it's too late.

The disadvantage of this feature is energy consumption. However, for those who can afford it, it's a great selling feature to have.

Of course, it's not critical to have it just like countless people around the world can still survive without owning a car. But it's nice to have the option.

  • Phone as a Key – Add this feature to the Gravity as soon as possible, and make it work reliably.

Lucid air phone app can work as a key that automatically locks or unlocks depending on the approaching or leaving distance.

What I wish more is phone as a card: When there's no internet/wifi/Bluetooth (a card does not need any of those)..., the phone should work as a card when held up against the reader above the driver's car camera.

Gravity will have digital key which should do both.

This is a bug with the Gravity. Works flawlessly
On the Air

mine works with no issues. Does your phone service have full coverage when you’re experiencing issues?

mine is very accurate, even with LA traffic
Are we currently supposed to be able to send Google Maps location to the Gravity? It's not clear from your statement. Or is this a future feature we should expect to get since it exists in the Air?

Lucid should quickly bring over some of Tesla’s best features to the Gravity. If they did, the number of Tesla-to-Lucid conversions would rise immediately.

I’m sure many Lucid employees read this forum quietly without revealing themselves. If you’ve found my posts useful, here’s what I believe Lucid should fix right away based on my first week of Gravity ownership. These changes would make the transition from Tesla far smoother and prevent new Gravity owners from feeling frustrated during their very first days.

  • Phone as a Key – Add this feature to the Gravity as soon as possible, and make it work reliably.
  • Profile Switching – Make it much faster, or at least allow the screen and music to stay on while seats/mirrors adjust. Drivers should be able to move the Gravity even while the profile is still loading.
  • Navigation Integration – Allow addresses from Google Maps on the phone to be sent directly to the Gravity’s navigation system. Typing them in manually is frustrating.
  • Climate Control via App – Ensure the Lucid app can consistently start climate preconditioning without errors.
  • Auto-Dim Screens – Add automatic brightness adjustment for night driving. Manual control helps, but auto-dim should be standard in the Gravity.
  • Default Alerts Off – Deliver the Gravity with most alerts turned off by default. Let the owner enable them as needed, rather than being bombarded with 30+ warnings (speed, safety, face detection, airbag, etc.) on the first drive home.
  • Microphone Quality – Fix the poor call audio quality where the other party can barely hear the driver.
  • Accurate Navigation ETA – Even if routing isn’t perfect, at least provide reliable arrival-time estimates. Tesla got this right, and Lucid should too.
  • Key Fob Reliability – Stop the “key not detected” messages when the fob is right there, even in the cup holder. This shakes driver confidence unnecessarily.

  • I’ve written about this and other similar issues with full details in another thread. The link to that post is below:

Living with the Lucid Gravity – A Tesla Owner’s Journey

If you’re a former Tesla owner, or if you currently own both Tesla and Lucid like I do, please help me expand this list by sharing your experiences.
Big yawn. Same complaints different thread. And stuff Lucid has solved or indicated they will fix. Yawn.
