New Air Grand Touring owner here, car is one month old.

It seems like every other time I plug the car in to charge it up I am losing a mile?
80% started out with 412 new.
Now 1 month later I am down to 406?

I understand that batteries degrade over time, however is the typical degradation in a month?

Any difference leaving the charge plug in when it is full (80%)?

Thanks in advance.

Most battery degradation will occur in the first couple of years. It is hard to say what is normal in the first month. I would not read too much into the miles remaining at 80% since the SOC is just and estimate with some small error. I would switch your display to percent SOC and not worry on it.

To understand what's happening it helps to know how the range estimator work. What it does is multiple the amount of available energy by an estimation of the distance it can go in a unit of energy. You are worried that the amount of energy avalible is decreasing. But most likely what is changing is the estimation of the distance you can go per unit of energy. This is based on recent trip information. So if you were going fast, or accelerating hard, or had to use the AC, or the heat, ar had a car full of propel, etc. all of that will impact the estimation. There is a reason the range estimate are often referred to as the Guess-O-Meter (GoM) in electric cars. There are so many unknown factors that impact actual range it's probably better to just ignored it.

I'm not sure on the Lucid but on most electric cars you can get an Bluetooth OBD adapter and a phone app can read much more information about the vehicle. What you are worried about is the State of health (SoH). It measures how the battery compares to when it was new.

Did you recently receive the software update? If so, is it due to using more accurate range estimate based on your actual efficiency versus the EPA? Just a theory.

Unfortunately, while I really wish that would be true, it does not consider driving style or past experience in the mileage remaining. It is possible it is taking degradation into account, but that is unknown. The original poster had a change of approximately one percent. Perhaps the battery was a slight bit more or less charged despite indicating 80%

Hey, I noticed this too in my 22 GT (Bought new in October 22). Before May of this year it would show 411 miles @ 80%. Since that time it went down to 408 @ 80%, and in the last month or so, it is at 406. I have 19,000 miles on the car now after a few road trips this summer, but in May I had about 13,000.

Just thought I'd drop another post here. It seems like my displayed range has plummeted once again. I haven't really driven it in about 2 weeks. Last time I charged it was showing 406 miles range at 80% (like it has the last few months, today I planned on taking it out so I charged it to 80% and now shows my range as 389 miles. There were no updates, so not sure why my range has plummeted even more when I first got the car it was 411 miles at 80%, then went down to 408 and then 406. The car is garage kept, so it's not in freezing temps, and there is no indication of limited range due to temps. Also, I only have 20,560 miles on the car

Has anyone seen a big drop like this suddenly?

The car will lose up to 1/4% daily of charge sitting idle. If you launch the app it will wake up the car and use a bit more. The amount you lost is normal. In the future, leave the car plugged in while in the garage if you have that capability.

I have been waking up the car with the app, and even on days that I did see the range limited by temps, I would pre-condition the battery to keep it warm every so often. Sadly since it is a shared charger I can't keep it plugged in all the time.

Should I expect my range to go back up at somepoint, or is this the new normal?

My car is always plugged in 100% of the time. Doesn’t make a difference with the battery loss.

Run this and look at your battery health.

battery_health_level: 96.70000144094229

Service told me they can monitor your battery and if the heath drops too rapidly they can repair/replace defective cells.

What do you mean by, "Plugged inb100% doesn't make a difference"? As in you still get the 512-516 mile range at 100%?
I haven’t charged to 100% in quite a while. I assume it would be around 490 based on 96% health.

You can also look at your remaining battery capacity.

capacity_kwhr: 110.67999752610922

Started at 112 or more. So I have lost 2% capacity in 6 months 2500 miles of driving.

I agree with what most others are saying. My mileage is mostly highway miles and i have driven between Fla and VA twice since i have had the car. On those trips i am averaging about 490 actual miles per 100% charge. In once got 501. So i haven’t had any “real” degradation. If you drive in traffic or with a heavy foot, instead of getting nearly 5 miles per kilowatt, you’re probably getting 4 or maybe even less. That would explain why the mileage estimation has gone down so much.

The first year of degradation is always the highest. After that it slows down *significantly*

In my 2018 Tesla M3P, I lost 3% in year 1, 2% in year two, 1% in year 3 and NOTHING after that. When I sold the car earlier this month I was still able to charge to 94% of the original charge level (at 69,000 miles). My point is that battery degradation is not linear…it’s often front loaded…as long as you take care of it properly.

For me, I had near 0 degradation for over the first year and a half I had the car (newly bought GT in October '22). It was just May of this year that I started to notice that there was some degradation, and then, again later this summer. In the past 2 weeks is the fastest I've ever seen.

Based on my calculation, My 100% range at this time would be ~486 miles. I'll have to read up on how to run that battery health tool to see what my remaining capacity is. I didn't think that was something we could do accurately

6 months 7k miles 2024 Pure RWD
Battery health 95.4
Capacity 81.18

Are these numbers ok? Losing 5% seems like a lot in 6 months of almost no level 3, and rarely above 80%
