Engineering Explained. This is bad.

I couldn't get through the vid. Sorry but the whining about minor stuff got to me. You have to push the charging door firmly to get it to open? Tragic! The cup holders hang on too tightly? Horrific! (Admittedly I have a low tolerance for complaining.)

I know some of you have significant problems with the car, and I feel badly for you. But to say that everyone has this problems isn't close to being accurate.

Like I said, some people aren't bothered by anything, and others are bothered by everything.
You are obviously one of the chosen ones. A person that has had minor issues that you're willing to explain away. After the issues I've had in 6 months of ownership of a 2025 AGT. You have been blessed with a diamond, instead of a lemon. I've had as many issues with my AGT, if not more. Not the same issues, but as far as number of issues, similar. As far as "Profiles", I was told if I want the car to recognize me, I should approach the car 1st, then my girlfriend or turn her phone off. The camera recognizes me 50% of the time. I lose 8kW overnight in the cold weather of Long Island, NY(LOL). Can't imagine the power evaporation in the frigid weather of the northern Midwest. My driver's seat, LITERALLY, PUSHED ME UP AGAINST THE STEERING WHEEL, I'm imagining HAL, from 2001. When I called for roadside assistance, the tech put the seat through a re-calibration, that tore up the front floor mat anchors. They took my car overnight, just to put the seat in a drivable position, they gave me a rental car from Enterprise, just to put the driver's seat in a drivable position. 3 1/2 months later, my seat finally came in & is in the shop being repaired. This loaner is 2022 AGT, without the wheel covers I drove it over 60 miles today and I averaged over 7miles/kW. Never once did I get that close with my 2025, with the wheel covers. I thought this car had "SATELLITE RADIO"????? Nothing works without the Lucid App, SiriusXM App. The Lucid Assistant knows NOTHING!!!! I ask a question, "I don't know that one"!!! It can't get any station I ask for. The 1st few weeks I owned this car, I was truly in love with this car & blind to its failures, until the 1st time the trunk wouldn't close. Then a cascade of failures after that. The best ride ever, the power, the beauty. Best car I ever owned, but glitch after glitch, 180º turnaround about owning this 1 big technical flaw. I owned stock in it too. The Techs are great, but would not want their job, with this company. I spent well over $100,000 for this car, I should get near perfection for that kind of money.

You have a way of dramatically under estimating the design tradeoffs involved in a car like the Lucid Air. Lucid is still a very low volume auto manufacturer but was even lower volume when the Air was designed. Custom seats were likely not an option, so Lucid had to choose a comfortable seat frame and assembly that was already in manufacturing. Do you select a narrow less comfortable seat that allows for a large center console and larger cup holders or do you select a wider more comfortable seat and mitigate the small cup holder with a larger water bottle holder in the door. I think Lucid made the right choice since comfortable massaging seats are a lot more important to driver comfort than cup holder size.

As much as you post here, I am perplexed that you do not understand the complexity of design or complexity manufacturing an automobile.
Actually even the door doesn’t fit our larger water bottles. Even the center armrest in the back doesn’t fit them.

Okay I’m going to blame that on your water bottles. I have some huge water bottles that fit perfectly fine in the door.

I just keep picturing these comically large water bottles that apparently all Americans use 🙃

We love our plastic-free recycled materials bottles with 1inch thick walls for insulation of all temperatures:) I believe they are called 'big dumb cups'

The Air’s front doors are exceptional for large water bottle storage. I’ve been using the classic Nalgene 32 oz narrow-mouth for over a dozen years now and it fits perfectly in the front doors. With every other car or SUV I have ever owned or driven, I have never found a good, accessible place to keep this bottle. Recently rented a Kia Telluride and was disappointed that there was nowhere to keep the bottle except awkwardly on the passenger seat.

The frunk issue happened to me again, it has been happening on and off for months. The misalignment was 'fixed; but the problem persisted to a point that i stopped using the frunk. Toiday i had to use it, so i tried opening it but it wouldn't open, it would open an inch then shut again but wouldn't latch shut. Called customer service, car had to be towed to my house from the hospital i work at, i had to be ubered to my clinic and had to cancel patients that were scheduled. I was also told 'Coldwater is receiving tons of tows currently that they have to intake. Could you set up your own rental and keep all the receipts, and coldwater service advisor will reimburse you'. No details given on what is the daily limit for rental car (it's $100), will they cover rental insurance(They don't)etc?. At the end of my work day, i had to call lucid and request to speak to with the Coldwater service center advisor so i could get details on what would lucid cover and what they wouldn't. Then i was told, 'given the frigid temperatures, water must have seeped in and froze hence the frunk isn't opening/closing. I explained to him that this has been happening for months where it takes multiple tries to open the frunk and that i had stopped using it for this very reason. Even if the cold temperature thing is true, the fact of the matter is, the car is unusable because the frunk would open and now won't latch shut. I was also told, i would have to put a lot of weight on the hood for it to shut, I am 5 feet small girlie, so i had a 6 foot colleague use his strength and even then it wouldn't latch shut. What i take away from this with my very limited knowledge, is that 1) Frunk hardware is an issue because even after it was 'fixed' i still can't use it, 2) seems like frunk can only be used when temp is above 30 degrees, if the Coldwater service center is to be believed with that freezing theory 3) when they get busy, you are left on your own to arrange rentals with no details given on the amount allowed per diem and other details 4) This is the same service center that had said handsfree only works when speed is more than 25 mph, which clearly isn't true from my personal experience and comments from other members. Summary: My 25 AT is a great car, but i cannot ignore these blatant issues that are affecting my personal and work life with dismal service. I am patient, i don't argue, i don't yell especially at lucid customer service reps who answer calls because none of this is their fault but at some point i need an answer, can i use this car in temps lower than 30 degrees or water will find it's way in places and freeze making the car unusable. If the car won't function in 30 degree temp in Michigan because the frunk can't latch shut because of water freezing, it is unacceptable. Yes, I am upset at bad service and excuses, thanks for listening to my rant, i am just tired of this car that I want to love so desperately. Please don't yell at me if I you think i hate lucid, i don't, I just want the car to work and the service department to help, it is not acceptable to say 'arrange your own rental and we will reimburse' and provide no details. I don't have a youtube channel to rant and i can't yell at my patients when i am upset so here i am ranting. But yes, there are many like me who desperately want to love this car but are having multiple issues.

I hear and feel you pain; but my fear is the wave of condescending comments and likes that drown serious complaints such as this. I’m no doctor but this is exactly my situation and why I fear this will all crumble

Perhaps....guess the bottles we use are larger than the large standard sized ones.

I get it. The frunk is a really shitty design.

This again goes back to shitty software. I had a loaner AGT that did the whole “frunk is open can’t drive thing” but it wasn’t open. Tesla has an alert you press that you know and can accept the risk. The Air does not. Considering their bizarre frunk design that is known to break, ignoring a software solution is absurd.

I like my car, I do, but I’m jealous that Gravity is getting their issues fixed right away, while the Air has dealt with this bullshit for years.

In my experience, the Air frunk issues are more about hardware than software. Over the course of four service visits (including one tow after a jammed frunk lid put the car into limp mode) we've had the latches first adjusted and then replaced, the struts replaced, and loosened hinges retightened (the reason for the jamming and tow). I was told at one point that the latches often fail due to water retention from rain.

The frunk lid mechanism is one of the few hardware engineering misses on the Air, but it has left us afraid to use the frunk.

That’s a more eloquent way of what I was trying to say I guess.

It is ludicrous to tie the trunk latch to a limp mode. I can’t tell you how many times in my life I’ve had to bungee or tie a hatch or trunk down because something didn’t fit or something broke. To kill the entire car and require a tow because of this is silly.

The trunk flying open even if you didn’t latch it properly wouldn’t cause an accident. The frunk flying open and completely obstructing your view of the road would.

I used to use my frunk a lot, but found myself recently not using it as much. I just have the spare and jack in the lower front trunk well mostly.

I haven't had a probelm with mine to date. Is it the latch mechanism or the alignment not causing it to latch for those with persistent issues?

In my case it's been both. However, our mobile tech said that water intrusion into the latch mechanism was causing a lot of the problems they saw early on. But that was over three years ago, and I suspect that has been addressed in later production.

Re keeping a spare wheel in the frunk . . . have you considered that that space is a collapse zone for absorbing frontal impact in a collision? I suspect something as strong as a wheel would seriously impede that function and cause more force to be transmitted into the passenger cabin in the event of a crash.

(This is much on my mind lately, as our Gravity was totaled in a frontal collision during which the front end was pulverized but the passenger cabin suffered no damage whatsoever other than airbag deployment -- no glass cracking, door alignment still perfect, etc.). I take Lucid's structural engineering very, very seriously these days.

That’s a good point. I never considered that. I usually carry a spare in the frunk when going long distance. Maybe I should place that in the trunk from now on. Thanks for bringing this up!
