EA Rant!

OK, I'm stumped. Where in the app do I get the status of each charging unit at the EA geographic location? Thanks for your help!
Open Lucid mobile app
Click on navigation (arrow pointer)
Click top right Lightning icon (charger)

It will show all possible chargers, the select EA station, then scroll to see each charger status.

And there it is! Thank you! Now I am doubting it's accuracy.....Denton, TX....6 chargers, 1 in use, 5 ready. Hmmmmm...been there twice....each time at least two chargers were down...maybe more but the third try worked each time.

Thanks again.

I’ve been to Denton EA station once in May. Complete unreliable at all. Sorry.

Don’t trust the app when they say “available” either. I’ve been to a number of locations where the app says available and the charger isn’t working hence why it’s available. The Lucid app is only as good as the shit data that’s being fed to it from EA

Texas is definitely an underserved market. On our recent trip to SanAntonio, we had to call to get the device reset in Bellmead. Only 1 of 2 of the 350 chargers were working in San Antonio. And only 1 of 2 working on the North side of Austin. And most of the folks using these chargers were unaware that even though there are two charging cords per charging station, only 1 is functional at a time. I actually told the service rep at EA that she needed to suggest they add charging stations at Buccees.

Oh Wow I was trying to charge as the 2nd person. That is crazy then to have 2 cords. Why not have just one longer cord per station. Thanks for that info. Supposedly they have raised 500 million to add/upgrade but that could take 3 years after which most likely no one will charge at EA stations unless there is a marked improvement in stations. But again one may not have a choice 😂

So are you saying that a bunch of your headaches was from you not knowing only 1 cord per station works as a time?

There’s some new EVGo 350kw chargers near me, unlike EA these actually work. While it’s .35/minute if you pre-condition at a low SOC% you could probably get 300 miles for $7. Not a bad deal. Screw EA. I tried to charge at my nearest location again yesterday and the one that was broken I called them about two weeks ago is still broken, and charger 3 is power limited to 40kw, and their 150kw charger one had one of the cables broken, but I was finally able to charge off the other one, but left early so an ID4 driver could use it since it was the only one working. I was only able to back up and reconnect to different stations 3x because other drivers are starting to learn this location is awful and avoiding it. Meanwhile the EVGo location was pristine and worked great.

How much older is that EA station compared to the EVGo one?

Not entirely. I did try two cords on one station that was not being used and both gave me an error. I love how your worded it 🤪

Don't believe it. This has always been EA's go to spiel

"Additionally, Electrify America employs a team of engineers and software specialists in its Network Operations center, which monitors network performance 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Users can contact the company via its Customer Contact Center at all hours as well, which is there to answer questions or help with technical problems as they arise"

If they were truly monitoring performance 24 hours a day, seven days a week then they would know all the chargers that are broken. Instead, they rely on the customer calling them when at the charger to resolve the issue. It's all reactive support and nothing proactive.

I'm glad they're "doing something". But what is having people going out and checking do to help? They already have many mechanisms to make sure things are running, like:
1. Their monitoring software. If it doesn't tell them that the station is down, then it has major gaps. This should be heavily looked into and those software gaps can be fixed.
2. Seeing as #1 doesn't work right now, how about something as simple as "Hey, nobody has charged on this station for 2 days, maybe something is wrong?"
3. If rebooting fixes problems, maybe nightly scheduled reboots of the chargers as a precaution. (with checks to make sure nobody is using the station before the reboot)

I hope it’s not just owner voices complaining but corporately Lucid, Ford, VW, et al. as EV adoption and a ales are being discouraged by a poor charging system

Yip,, it would make alot more sense just to have a longer cord. One fella was down right PO'd at me when I told him it wouldn't work.

Per the EA webiste,
"Though there are two connectors at each Electrify America charger, only one can be used at a time. Having two connectors ensures that it's easy for you to plug in—no matter where your car's charging port is located.".

Somebody on Reddit snapped a pic of the inside of an EA charger that was being worked on. There certainly is a lot going on in there, check out the liquid cooling block at the bottom right.
