Hi everyone,

Starting a new thread due to the name change from Highway Assist to Drive Assist. I wanted to see if anyone has experienced the updated Drive Assist in rainy conditions.

Today, while driving down the hill from Victorville to Riverside, I encountered heavy rain—conditions that would have previously required me to take over due to the system’s lack of confidence. However, today was different. The feature worked flawlessly, even executing lane changes throughout the drive. In the past, the lane markings would have remained solid, preventing lane changes, but this time, it handled them smoothly. I was genuinely impressed with the updates and feel that Drive Assist has made significant progress.

I’d love to hear from others, especially those in harsher climates, to see if they’ve had similar experiences with the latest version.

On a side note, beyond its improved performance in the rain, I’ve also noticed a major reduction in its tendency to bias right in the lane, as well as its previous issues with inconsistent acceleration. These quirks have almost disappeared entirely, which is amazing progress for the technology.

Looking forward to your thoughts!

P.S. Also, any insights @Denali_Dane since you recently moved up in the world? (From a performance Tesla to a Lucid?)

Yes! They are so cool!! @Denali_Dane made them! And a ton of them in different colors! I think he was going to bring them to the upcoming cars and coffee, but I’ll let him work out the details!!

On a related Drive Assist note... I get the distinct feeling that the software team has been quietly dialing back the sensitivity of the hands-on requirement. I have gone from constant alerts to wondering if hands-on might be turned off. Perhaps the software is sophisticated enough to learn my hands-on habits, maybe they've just made it more accommodating, and/or maybe I've subconsciously learned how to please it. Anyway, net of that and all the other improvements, the last few months have taken me from 'meh' to 'wow'.

Completely agree! It’s gotten to be more accommodating too, even when I don’t have the sensor array blocked it’s not as immediate with turning off or warning me if I quickly glance at my phone.

It’s good in my opinion that they don’t do a press release on it every time it gets a little better tho, because then you’d get all the bad press with comparisons. Which isn’t emblematic of how most of us drive. Honestly I like driving the car so much I can’t imagine putting it on a destination mode and having it drive itself the whole way… my led foot would be sad.
