DreamDrive2 Pro Hands Free?

The Air slows down for curves, for sure. The Gravity also suggests lane changes (though does not make them without your initiation).

Are you sure the Gravity doesn't slow down for curves? I'll admit I haven't paid *that* much attention, but it's possible this is in the Air and not yet in Gravity.

I’ve never seen the message @HC_79 is referring to nor had our Gravity slow on a curve. I am sure it can, but the majority of our 8,000+ miles have been on highways and it hasn’t slowed yet specifically for a curve. Usually, it doesn’t make a huge difference, but on mountain highways with sharper curves, it is somewhat frightening. As with all things drive assist related, I expect it to improve over time.

And it does suggest lane changes that usually make sense.

Got it. I’ve seen the message, but I don’t use DDP that often if I’m being honest.

My experience the past few days, although I can't find documentation to this effect, is that LCA is geofenced to highways.

When Drive Assist is on and LCA is available, it will immediately say "Lane Change Requested" after activation and the turn signal will stay on until the operation completes. If LCA is not available there is no message and you get 3 turn signal flashes.

I have been able to use it on larger 2 lanes and I was surprised it would keep in the lanes when not on the highway, you enable Drive Assist and wait to get the steering wheel icon highlighted and 2 lanes turn solid in the display.

I had an Air loaner with hands free and I have an X with FSD. Honestly, what are you supposed to do with your hands if they’re not on the wheel? Neither system lets you look away and DO anything else, and there aren’t huge arm rests to relax and you can’t just recline. So, I find myself putting my hands on the wheel anyway. Otherwise, both cars give nasty warnings very quickly if you dare look away. So, to me, hands free is pointless until it gets to the point where it need not be supervised.

FSD still sucks, just had my free month. It drives like a jerk, passes on the right, gets speed limits wrong, exceeds the speed limit by default, and is naggy. No way would I pay for it.

Mine doesn’t drive like a jerk, didn’t make any illegal passes, never got a speed limit wrong, 2-4mph over the limit in the standard profile is fine with me, and for the 1.5 hour round trip to drive family home on Christmas night it didn’t nag me once. Using it and taking the Tesla was definitely easier than driving my family home in the Gravity not knowing if Dream drive pro would even turn on for me since I am on my third steering wheel replacement. Comical how people can have different experiences.

Drivers may have different versions of hardwares and softwares.

Many still have hardware 3 while the software is optimized for hardware 4.

That’s good for you that it works. People can have different experiences with the same item. Hence why one experience doesn’t define the average.

Wow, 44 times is a long list to keep track of. Sounds like you should rent Lucid’s instead.

I had FSD on in my 23 Y. We were doing a Xmas light tour in a row of cars.

It suddenly decided it was time to pass the car going 10mph in front of me, by swerving out around it into a one way, one lane roundabout and then it just jerked around and fizzled out and me look like an idiot.

As a previous owner of a 2020 and then 2023 Model X, we experienced a number of FSD versions.
On that last car, with HW4 (no front camera though), the FSD trial we got in early Dec was pretty darn amazing. As for speed limit, you can choose the Chill profile and it'll obey speed limits exactly. We live in the Santa Cruz mountains, up twisty mountain roads, and this new V14.2.X version was the first to make it up and down without interventions required.

That all said, we still went through and ended our lease early to get the Gravity. Just couldn't stand the build quality issues with the X any longer.

It does for some and not for others. You know it’s doing it when it says a message on the cockpit like “slowing for curve”. It’s rare it actually does it though and just tries to take a majority of curves at full speed. The Air is better at handling curves than the Gravity at this stage.

I just tested this today and you’re absolutely right. It handles *some* curves fine, but anything even remotely a little too tight and it gives up; the Air does a better job slowing down on curves, so I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.

Driving, actually operating the car (yourself), is a serious responsibility ; not quite ready to delegate it to computers when I'm still needing an IT tech on call full time just to keep 9 workstations running Windows 11 smoothly in a healthcare office!

Fair, but I will say this, oddly, Windows is very unstable and requires far more TLC than it should… But that’s a totally different forum…

If there is room to pass on the right, then it’s the person in the left lane who being the jerk, not the person passing. Passing on the right is a completely legal and valid maneuver.

I paid for DreamDrive2 for the future, hoping it becomes a true self-driving solution.
At this point, Drive Assist isn't more functional than Adaptive Cruise Control, with the possible exception of Lane Changing.
DD2 works on the highway and that's it. It will not exit the highway, driving right past the exit on the route. It will not stop for a stop sign, driving right into an intersection at full speed. It won't run over the vehicle in front, just like Adaptive Cruise Control.
I can live with all of that, again, hoping for a much better self-driving solution.

My Tesla Model Y has FSD and it is incredible. Totally hands free from my garage to the destination, regardless of where I'm going or the type of roads. I'm hoping Lucid gets there some day but I will continue to enjoy driving this car regardless. Having an automated cruise control reduces stress on the highway and I'm happy with that for now.

Thanks, @borski - good clarification on the steering, and it does that well. I've seen some other posts about cornering, etc.
I'll look forward to future updates on the self driving side. In the meantime, I'll enjoy driving this amazing vehicle!

Aside: I’m in Corvallis, OR, on this road trip and Drive Assist has worked on every single back road I’ve tried it on; and I’m here literally on farmland. Including lane keeping and steering. I have no idea why, but I’m not complaining.
