Did the factory tour today, if you have referral pts and want to understand what you are investing in, I recommend it!

Can't say anything about what i saw, but i would tell you its well worth it if you really want to understand what you are buying into beyond the vision.

This is a quality first, no shortcuts ethos. Pretty much the opposite of churning them out as cheaply as possible a la tesla.

I think we got to see a lot more since this the first tour after the factory expansion.

I’m interested in seeing what happens tax-wise on this. Can you update us in the future?
Wasn't me that redeemed it, maybe @DreamTour can chime in here. I did some testing with referral rewards last month and tax was calculated based on the location that things where being shipped to, so my location being 7.75% it was 78 points on a 1000 points order for example. My guess is that the 50k redemption would work the same, calculating taxes off of DreamTour's location.

Sorry... I was unlcear... not sales tax. I think they will 1099 folks for the value of the item as income. Wondering what the tour is valued at.

I don't know for sure, but I would guess it's similar to frequent flyer miles, where referral "points" translate to a consistent number of USD.

The trick is figuring out what one referral point is worth in cash. Then we can multiply that by $50k to get the value of the tour.

Given several items in the referral store are listed in the regular store, that should be doable? But I'm too lazy.

Didn't get 1099'ed. It's an experience, so no tangible value transfer. I guess they buy you doughnuts and lunch haha.

When i got flown as media in my auto blogging days by GM and the like, i never got 1099'ed for the comped flights and hotels.

Also i did not get charged sales tax (referral points) for the same reason (not a tangible sale item).

Also, if you buy your own travel its actually only 25k points now (this is a new thing they are doing) I made a trip out of it and got myself there.

Then why fill out a W9? It was this year, you would be 1099'ed in the beginning of 2025.

That's great news. Getting there is easy and it's a lot easier to get 25k points than 50k.

I assume for those of us who don't live in the Bay Area, getting there is a cost we have to cover ourselves...

The 50,000 point version covers airfare.

Didn’t have to do a w9 either. But maybe because I covered my own airfare? Dunno if others had to do it.

I wish they offered a factory tour without points. I'd definitely take a drive to AZ to check out the factory. From the clips online, the factory looks very modern.
