With DD Premium increasingly becoming the baseline for Lucid cars and SUVs, perhaps it's time to offer a reasonable (eg. not the current $12,000!) upgrade path for those who paid $2500 for DDPremium, but have the hardware for DDPro. Since that group consists primarily of early adopters (2022-23), pricing could take into account the average vehicle age (2-3 years), but would still net new income for Lucid.

With the announcement of coming hands-off features to DDPro, such an upgrade path would surely attract interest.

Did you purchase DD Premium knowing DDPro would be needed for the upcoming DDPro features? I'm trying to understand here.

I predict Lucid will go the route of Tesla at some point and offer DDPro as a subscription - it is basically a costless revenue addition to Lucid to just flip the switch if the hardware is already there. Can’t believe anyone would pay for this up front after seeing the way Tesla handled FSD for years.

No. I took delivery just after a significant layoff and figured that DDPro would be delayed and didn't want to pay full fare ($9000 at the time) for features that were years in the future. I had EAP and never took an upgrade to FSD for the same reason. It also meant that the constant "by the end of the year" Tesla FSD promises made me leery of paying for vaporware.

I paid for it up front with ZERO hesitation. Lucid ain't Tesla!!

Understandable, but you knew these features would be coming at some point. I don't think expecting Lucid to accommodate a decision you made is on them. However, I do understand hoping a discount will come at some point. I just don't want this forum flooded with complaints that owners don't have the new features when they knowingly purchased the premium version which wouldn't have access to these features.

The number of instances where the hardware is already there but the vehicle doesn't have the option is limited to a subset of '22 GT's if memory serves.

I hope they don't go for the subscription model and stick with the one-time purchase. I think a reasonable upgrade cost that accounts for the current cost of the feature in new vehicles minus what was paid originally for DD premium plus an incentive would be fair.

I don't think people are complaining that premium doesn't have the features. I think they're wanting an attractive upgrade path in the small % of cases where the hardware IS in the car, but the feature isn't enabled (I think it was with the idea of offering demo access to DDPro and the higher end SS package but it didn't last long and they just started shipping cars with the specc'd hardware and that's it. So, to the best of my knowledge, this is going to be a small group of people who are in the candidate pool. I only know all this from trying to work out if a 2nd hand '22 GT had DDPro and SS Premium (the window sticker wasn't present). I found out that physically observing the presence of the requisite cameras/sensors/speakers was NOT sufficient to know with 100% certainty if it had the feature. Thankfully a friend ran the VIN at Lucid and was able to tell me what the car definitively had.

Mine is one of these small % of cars. I did pay for the DDPro because I had to have the cameras. DD Premium wasn't an option at that time. I always though it was strange that there are limits on purchasing the updgrades for DD Pro and SS Pro. These cars have the hardware and the features can be turned on easily, so why put a restriction on when or if to take your money.

I’m sure at some point the small subset of cars that have the hardware installed and not enabled could possibly be activated with a fee as it’s just software.

Completely different story for those without the hardware though. I don’t see nor do I expect them to offer any upgrade path for that.

I think the OP is suggesting upgrading from dd premium to dd pro should be cheaper since they already paid $2500 to upgrade to dd premium. Thus ddpro should be at most $12000 - $2500 for users that already upgraded to dd premium. Basically if you paid for ddpro from the onset it would have only cost $12000, but if you first upgraded to dd premium and later decide to upgrade to ddpro it would have cost in total $2500 + $12000
