Hi All,

My son unfortunately cracked our rear passenger side window (long story, don't ask). I searched and couldn't find any threads on replacement costs. I'm assuming the glass would need replaced by a Lucid service center? Any idea what the total cost will be?

Thanks!

I don't know about the rea window.

When I bought my AGT, I was worried about the huge front window and the associated glass canopy. It is a gigantic piece of glass. I asked the Service Manager about replacement cost if that piece of glass were to be replaced. To my surprise, he said that huge piece of glass is about $2,000.

If true, the rear window, which is a lot smaller and does have all electronics/sun visors attached to it, should be less. I don't have a guess. Go ask the service center.

For reference, my son just replaced his front windshield on his 2019 Honda Clarity. It was $500. I'd think the rear window on a Lucid will be more, mostly because it is not a popular car.

Check to see if your insurance covers glass replacement. If it does, typically there is no deductible. That means you get the glass replacement with no cost to you. Unlike collision, glass damages are generally not the negligence of the driver. For example, the truck in front of you kicked up a rock and smashed your windshield. That's why insurance will replace it for free IF YOU HAVE GLASS COVERAGE. Now, I have no idea how your son damaged the rear window.

I appreciate both replies! I'll call my agent tomorrow but it seems like the coverage most policies provide are focused on the windshield. My son caused the damaged from inside the car which would basically rule out any external impact from rocks, etc

Make your son pay for it from his allowance! 😎

If you have glass coverage, it should cover any glass (except maybe a sunroof) - def worth checking.

I suspect that the cost to replace the rear door window will not be too excessive. However, contrary to what others have suggested above, the rear window is VERY expensive to replace, at least if one has a glass canopy roof. The platinum and/or stealth trim pieces that surround the rear windshield are not intended to be reused and must be removed to install the replacement rear windshield. A careful technician may be able to “save” the side trim pieces and reuse them if he/she is very careful during the removal process. But, the total cost to replace the rear windshield is likely to exceed $2,500 and could run significantly more than that.

Glass coverage is free, but beware that my former insurance counted against my records.
My glass damage was only rock chips, and over twenty years, only one glass replacement, due to rocks.
I was shocked when I was told these minor repairs were negative for me.
I subsequently changed insurance co.

Spoke with lucid service this morning and to my surprise, the window replacement quote was very reasonable. $334 for the glass and $225 for labor.

Does your insurance cover the glass?

I have Erie insurance and from what I've read online, they do cover both the windshield and other auto glass. I'll call my agent Monday to discuss any potential rate hikes from making the claim.
