Now is the time to speak about all things HUD. Lucid has just sent out a survey asking for feedback, check your inboxes.

I got it and filled it out.

I understand the desire for feedback, but I'm a little surprised to see this survey right now. There's bound to be a lot of disappointment because there ain't any "augmented reality" going on in that "augmented reality HUD" yet. Maybe it gauges priority vs other work, though.

No survey yet, but I’ve definitely got my eyes up… as in Heads-Up, waiting for it. Plenty of HUD feedback ready when it lands.

I think they've got several new people on the engineering side, and I look as this as an effort to decide how many (or few) resources to throw at the HUD design effort.

Well I’m not going to begrudge people asking where the AR is (I did) and complete crickets from Lucid on it. You can’t heavily promote something, load a sizzle video in every car you sell showing it off and then just go dark on people.

I also mentioned about the blue oval in certain light conditions. Lucid can argue until the cows come home that this is “normal”, it’s not!

I never understood that phrase. Surely, by now, at least some of the original cows have come home? 🤷‍♂️ otherwise, maybe the rancher needs to find a new gig.

Carry on.

I just answered mine being very honest. They need honest feedback. Sadly, the first question is "what do you like best about the HUD?"... <insert crickets chirping noise>. lol

As a potential buyer, I'd be interested in opinions of how Lucid's physical HUD implementation compares to Porsche's, Volvo, Polestar.
Primarily for image quality, reflections and visual artifacts, ignoring software completely. I'm still on the fence for whether I'd spec it on a Gravity.

There are other threads on this... somewhere. I *do* like the HUD. Having lane guidance and next turn info in my field of view is better than not having it. I was even prepared for the disappointment of it not doing much yet, but the lack of... much of any news is really disappointing.

I don't have a lot of comparison points but it's still advertised to have the full functionality of the Mercedes MBUX AR-HUD but even bigger and better, but the actualy experience today is more along the lines of a Ford Escape.

Unless it gets the AR update I personally wouldn’t bother with it. When it works it’s ok but some days it seems blurry and other days the text seems bigger or smaller depending on its mood. It jitters a lot even if the road is relatively smooth and it does a horrendous job at adjusting to outside light levels. If it’s on full brightness at night you’ll see a white square on your windshield.

It’s nice to have but definitely wouldn’t miss it.

This is a good point. Right now the auto-brightness is just *atrocious*. There are maybe 8 brightness levels with really obvious, non-smooth steps between them and it takes a long time for the vehicle to figure out what it should be doing at dusk/night. I forgot to mention this on my survey.

After reading all the issues on here about the HUD and seriously not liking things on my dash reflecting their image on my windshield, ever,...and then not really seeing anything else in the tech pkg that I wanted (except the power outlets, which thank goodness they separated out in the config thingy), I for one gave it a pass and order my GGT w/o it

They probably won't send me a survey, huh?...though my feedback should be as valid as anyone's

Filled mine. did not hold back, I have my HUD off for the past few days and completely forgotten about it.

I didn't get the survey invite because I just took delivery yesterday, but here's my feedback 2 days in:

It is somewhat disappointing - my wife turned it off on her profile. I find the information displayed to be too busy, too big (font size too big) and too bright (even at the lowest setting). The projected image overlaps and clashes visually with the car that I am following, even when set to the lowest setting. Optically, the image my right eye sees is a bit lower than the image my left eye sees, which causes double vision (like vertical diplopia). I suspect this has to do with the large size of the projected image against the curvature of the windshield. If I tilt my head counterclockwise slightly (like a dog tilting its head), the projected image immediately clears up. Auto brightness needs work, particularly in how it handles overpasses, the stepped brightness changes mentioned previously are distracting.

We have several years of experience and comfort with HUDs in a 2019 Mazda CX-5 and a 2019 Volvo XC90, which fade into the background pretty seamlessly and require no particular accommodations from the driver. The HUD in the Gravity, by contrast, draws attention to itself and is fatiguing to use. I will leave it enabled for now to see if I can adjust to it over time.

I turned mine off almost immediately. I've never had a HUD before so maybe it just takes getting used to but I couldn't take the image overlapping with cars in front of me but at a different focal distance. It was tilted and shook a little and was just really distracting. I got a migraine the day I picked my car up and drove it home. It's possible that was random, possible it's a me thing, possible it was the new car smell, but though I've tried it a couple times in short bursts since, it hasn't been worth the risk TBH.

I get the blue ovals; I don't know how you couldn't. It's simply a matter of reflection. On its best day, I find the housing reflects on the windshield.

If I could have gotten the nicer interior lighting without the HUD, I'd have done so in a second. As it is, I am considering doing something to cover the housing entirely.
Again, maybe it's just me, but I don't get it.

This wife also turned hers off. It felt unsafe but not sure I can quite put my finger on why. I bet your description matches my complaints with it. It feels too overwhelming but also blurry. My Honda Accord has a very nice, unobtrusive HUD that provides just the right information at the right intensity. If they can't get the display problems fixed with the small amount of information it currently displays, imagine how overwhelming it will be with all the future information it is supposed to display. I am glad we chose it. though because I like the lights!

I also noticed looking at the HUD from the outside that the housing doesn't appear to be straight. One side is higher than the other. Is there a design reason for this?
