Charging At Home Question

I have aTesla Model S which I charge at home using a 40amp circuit, get around 30 miles an hour, good for overnight charge.

Ordered a brand new 25 Air Touring yesterday and have a few questions, all advise would be greatly appreciated.

1. Can I use the same charger for Lucid?
2. How quick will the charge be?
3. Do new Lucids have cable included?
4. Is any free charging included?

When you say you charge at home using a 40amp circuit, do you mean you have a Tesla home charger connected to that circuit or you plug the Tesla directly into the wall?

1. You didn’t mention which charger you have. Does your charger have J1772 or do you have an adapter for that? If so it should be fine.
2. You’ll certainly still be fine for an overnight charge. I don’t know which version of the S you have to compare specs, but I would expect the “miles/minute” to be similar if not a little higher for the Air.
3. No, I don’t believe the mobile charger is included anymore. You can get one from the Lucid store online, but any from a reputable brand will do.
4. This keeps changing, but I don’t think so. Last year they switched to giving a charging credit instead, which you could put towards one of Lucid’s chargers. Ask at delivery or check your contract, because you may be able to choose.

Charging at 40 amps will also roughly give about 30 miles/hour -
I don't believe the new Airs come with a mobile charger or free charging but ask your service advisor, you may get an incentive towards a.mobile or home charger. As others have stated, other brand chargers work well. If you really want a Lucid charger there are many listing for new chargers at a discount on this forum by private parties.

OP would need a NACS to J1772 adapter for home AC charging. A NACS to CCS adapter would only be useful for DC fast charging, at a later date.

1 &2. If you have the tesla charger, you will need a NACS-J1772 adapter. I use that set-up and get about 34 mph. It should also work at Tesla Destination chargers. The Lectron version costs about $120. Note that this is different from the Vortex NACS Fast charging adapter which is for Tesla Superchargers.

I purchased my Air Touring recently, it didn't come with a charger or free charging, but it came with a $650 credit for charging accessories, which, coincides with how much they charge for the Lucid portable charger. That charger runs at 40 Amps, but the electricians on the board say that you shouldn't charge at more than 80% of your circuits capacity, so if you have a 40A circuit that could cause problems. If you have a 50 Amp circuit, it's good for about 45 mph.

Ordered my AT last week and am also waiting for it to arrive. For my order:

• Do new Lucids have cable included? Wasn't included, but I believe I'm entitled to a $650 rebate on either the mobile charging cable (which costs $650) or the Lucid charger, which is roughly double that price.
• Is any free charging included? I was told this promotion is over. No more free charging at EA.

My bad, thanks for catching and correcting. It got me thinking though... would the NACS to CCS work for the home setup too? Since the Air will be able to charge at Tesla SCS soon, it would be easier and cheaper to only buy one instead of two.

If you have the tesla charger, you will need a NACS-J1772 adapter. I own one from A2Z EV. It roughly $90. I think Tesla makes a Universal home charger that can be used with J1772 cars.

How quick will the charge be?

It's level 2, so speed will be the same (in kW). The only difference is the size of the battery. Air Touring has a 92 kWh battery pack. Not sure about Tesla S

Do new Lucids have cable included?

If you are talking about mobile charger (level 1 or 2), it is not included, but available for purchase. It's $650 MSRP. Since you bought brand new, the day after the delivery, you will get an email from Lucid with a coupon code worth $650 available towards the purchase of either the Lucid home charger, or the Lucid mobile charger, which essentially makes the Lucid mobile charger free.

It's less expensive than the 80A TeslaTap that I and many others have used. Based on my experience, it was OK, but if I were to buy again I'd try the one from A2Z.

A2Z is a well-respected vendor for these kind of devices and the unit meets CE safety requirements (UL pending). Avoid cheapies you find on Amazon.

No. NACS to CCS is only useful for DC fast charging at a Supercharger, when this capability is turned on - presumably later this year. It will not work at all for Level 2 AC charging.

For now you'd want only the NACS to J1772 adapter to charge your Air at home using an existing Tesla charging setup, or a Tesla destination charger at a hotel.
