Mine will, with a short time delay after depressing the door handle (firmly all the way in same as if I had fob), open without either fob or phone. The unlocked sleeping state, has mirrors unfolded, handles retracted. The locked state has folded mirrors and retracted handles (both awake and asleep). Pressing a handle (firmly all the way in) causes the car to wake and handles to extend. Fob or phone needed if car was locked, neither needed if unlocked.I have passive lock turned off in my Air. The car eventually locks itself anyway. The mirrors don't fold, but the doors do lock and pressing the handles in won't unlock it.
I do the same, carry the fob/card/phone combo all the time. Not ideal but it gives me peace of mindThis is EXACTLY what I do daily I couldn't have written it better myself! And it's why I've found myself peeking at 2027-2028 new EVs on the horizon
I think most of us are saying the same thing but not agreeing on what working means.Something could be both honest and blown out of proportion. Not saying that’s what’s happening in this case, but I think that was their point.
Not that anyone is being dishonest, but that going from “some people’s door handles and keys have problems” to “Lucid doesn’t care about their customers at all” is a far leap. (And not one you made, but others seem happy to)
Fwiw - I don’t use the fob, and my PAAK works 100% of the time. Rarely, maybe 5-10% of the time, I’ll have to pull my phone out and tap it (just to wake it up) but that’s it. Sometimes I’ll tap the door handle if it’s taking an extra second but it never takes more than 1-4 seconds. Just my experience.
If my car locked my kid in it and wouldn’t unlock for more than a few seconds I’d be upset too. Mine has just never done that.
I can't say I have had any vehicle with PAAK that I didn't have to do this on occasion.I'm quite sure a lot of people are feeling the same way. Yes, they can get into their car when they unlock my phone or go into the lucid app to get the car to wake up, but it should just work without any workarounds.
NHTSA involvement is complaint based. Should we set up How to "Complain to NHTSA" Post?As has been said, locking and unlocking the car is not rocket science. Lucid needs to consider this issue, on the Airs and the Gravity, as a three alarm fire, not a casual issue to fix when they get around to it. At some point NHTSA will get involved and force a recall garnering more bad publicity.
Exactly.. should not have to fiddle. Good software is frictionless.I think most of us are saying the same thing but not agreeing on what working means.
From my perspective, you're right that your doors open 100% of the time, but you're wrong in saying that it works 100% of the time. From my perspective, having to touch your phone 5-10% to wake the car means it's not working.
I'm quite sure a lot of people are feeling the same way. Yes, they can get into their car when they unlock my phone or go into the lucid app to get the car to wake up, but it should just work without any workarounds.
Your comment about the walk around to get to the other side of the car is exactly when it happens for me.I use exclusively mobile key. It eventually works 100% of the time. I’ve never had to revert to the app or the plastic card, which I do keep in my wallet just in case.
But I’ll be the first to admit that the implementation is far less than optimal. Very often I have to pull my phone out of my pocket, sometimes it’s immediate, sometimes it takes 10 or 15 seconds. But I’ve never had a completely fail. I do find it ridiculous that here we are in mid-2026 and they still haven’t implemented an improvement to it or complete replacement. This has been a known problem since the car was first released. I know that they are focused on the midsize and the Gravity but this is the ONE thing, if anything, that needs to be fixed immediately on the Air. But it hasn’t. I find that to be the most disappointing of anything about the car. It literally decreases how much I like the car on a daily basis. I complained way back in 2022 that when I put my grandson in the passenger side rear seat and I walk around to the driver side, by the time I get there the car is locked and it won’t unlock for way too long. Completely unacceptable.
My wife, who works in law-enforcement, also finds it unacceptable that the car does not have a preference where only the driver‘s door unlocks. She says having all the doors unlock simultaneously can be a safety risk. Every car I’ve owned over the last decade or more has had this option available except the Lucid.
This is my greatest disappointment with the Air and the company.
Unfortunately, I see a parallel here… Tesla let the Model S die, made very few improvements to it, and focused on their more popular and profitable models. I totally get it from a corporate point of view. But that doesn’t help me when I approach my $140,000 luxury car with a grandkid in each arm, and the car won’t unlock until I put somebody down on the ground and fish my phone out of my pocket.
Lucid, if you were listening, this problem alone will prevent me from buying another Air to replace my current Air when the time comes which will most likely be in 2027.
i feel like there is a bluetooth dead zone in the corners. if i approach my car at a roughly 45 degree angle on the left rear corner, i can get it not auto-unlock. it is intermittent, but i know enough to anticipate that.Your comment about the walk around to get to the other side of the car is exactly when it happens for me.
But with the actual car key?I can't say I have had any vehicle with PAAK that I didn't have to do this on occasion.

(and now my Lucid)
I purposely leave one door cracked open in the morning when I’m loading the kids as a matter of fact. The door lag has always been the most annoying issue for me. My policy is to always leave a door or the trunk agar until I am done with the tasks at hand. I will load into the trunk, leave it open and climb into the driver seat and close from there. I have had people yell ‘you left your trunk open’ more than once. If I had a kid in the car, I would make sure they are out before closing the driver door. PIA but an adaptation.
Yeah, the car locking your kid in is just a small inconvenience.... inconvenient sure, consist blaming the company as not caring, I dont.
This is not what I said. I never have to unlock my phone or open the Lucid app. I only have to tap it, or move it, occasionally, to wake the phone up. It is the phone that is asleep, not the car.I'm quite sure a lot of people are feeling the same way. Yes, they can get into their car when they unlock my phone or go into the lucid app to get the car to wake up
That's definitely not true for the Tesla. This is not what I said. I never have to unlock my phone or open the Lucid app. I only have to tap it, or move it, occasionally, to wake the phone up. It is the phone that is asleep, not the car.
That is true for every mobile key I’ve ever used that doesn’t use UWB.
