My recent holiday travels took me across the Pennsylvania mountains through a 'slushy' snow storm. A lot of 18-wheelers and Mother Nature conspired to coat the front of my '24 Air Touring with a lot of slush. This, of course, made all of the front sensors useless and caused the Adaptive Cruise Control to turn off. I then had to manually control my speed. This is perfectly understandable.

Pulling off to the side of I-80 in a snow storm to clear slush from the front of the car seemed like the most ridiculous thing that I could think of at the time.

What I don't understand is why a "normal, dumb" cruise control was not available to me. Sure, I'd have to "manually" pay attention to my speed and the traffic in front of me but when don't I?

Should a "normal, dumb" cruise control be a fallback option to Adaptive Cruise Control? Is it, in fact, available?

I don't know of any car that allows regular cruise control when the car has adaptive CC. Probably for liability reasons.

I don't understand the liability issue. I'd expect that, of the two, standard cruise control would be safer as it's simpler. No?

Glad to hear. I've driven some Hondas and Subarus that I couldn't get regular CC when the sensors had issues. But then they were other people cars so I could have been missing something.

Maybe it's a Jeep thing. I'm currently driving a Wagoneer rental. It has the ability to turn on traditional cruise control and then if you want to you can turn on the adaptive cruise control. It took me a while to figure out that I was turning on different things and to figure out why it wasn't letting me adjust the following distance at times. It's because I had only turned on the traditional Cruise control.

So…Jeep (Stellantis) can do it but Lucid can’t/won’t?

The Lucid software group has to improve their product.

I agree with your last statement holistically. They are working on what they want their software to be.

Using a comparison to Jeep software that can do CC and ACC as your argument to better their software? Nah….

FWIW, even my husbands 2024 VW GTI lets you turn off ACC so I don't believe the whole 'liability' thing myself. The VW has a 'toggle' to select 'standard cruise control' My husband said without it, it would have been a showstopper for him to buy the car actually. He has zero tolerance for ACC

My point is simply that if a major manufacturer can/will make a cruise control which can go up/down to an ‘enhanced’ cruise control then why not Lucid? Why must we have ONLY an enhanced cruise control?
Put in a software switch and improve the product.

Yes, for my husband's sake when he drives my Lucid, I would love to see a toggle for 'standard cruise control'

Volvo XC90 has both dumb and smart cc for many years and the ACC also does lane keep assist… and it’s standard.

I still have not figured out how to use Adaptive Cruise Control on my '25 AGT WITHOUT also having the car steer for me. HELP! Someone already answered this on the forum elsewhere but either I didn't understand their response or I did something wrong. If anyone does answer, please pretend you are explaining this to a child and go step by step! Thanks in advance!!!

Do what you’re doing to engage Highway Assist. Then press that same steering wheel button again (the cruise control looking button, not the roller that looks the same as the volume) and hold it for a few seconds. The banner over your speedometer should change from Highway Assist to Adaptive Cruise.

Press the left cruise control to activate HA and then press and hold again it will switch to ACC and remove lane centering.

Thanks gang!! I must not have been doing a press and hold on the second go...I will try again next time out!

It took me almost a year to learn how to avoid the HA setting. In my seat / wheel position I cannot see the display, so have to take my eyes off the road and duck under the wheel to see what mode I'm in. After a year or so of ducking I have learned how to access the excellent Adaptive Cruse without looking. I wish there was a way to delete HA...it's a death trap.

Or install ‘sensor heaters’ to keep the lidar/radar/cameras clear of slush!

Move your seat / wheel. It’s not a death trap. 🪤
