Just wanted to post and say I'm super happy with the mirrors on this vehicle in general and particularly the coating and/or treatment on them and their resulting dimming qualities. Just about every other car I've driven whether it had manual or auto dimming features I barely noticed it and would pretty much always be blinded by other drivers excessively bright headlights.

This car, however, is a game changer for me in that department. I feel completely free to stare at headlights in the side and rear view mirrors as long as I need to without visual strain.

I think this is a particularly underrated and underappreciated feature....perhaps usually an afterthought for most auto manufacturers. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

@Denali_Dane I think you mentioned you don’t think my side view mirror dims correctly. Is this a known feature? The electrical dimming side mirrors? Or is it just a chemical doping?

This is one of the reasons I will not drive our 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid at night. It either has no mirror dimming, or it is ineffective. The Air dimming works quite well.

All 3 mirrors on mine dim. In yours your driver side does not dim at all
Do you or anyone else happen to know if the dimming feature is an active or passive feature? In the daylight it just appears as if there's a special coating or treatment on the mirror itself...it even looks a little darker with a tiny border of untreated mirror around the edge. Could be a combination of that plus an active dimming system as well but I'm just curious.

I have the same question. I am currently under the impression that active dimming is only in the interior rear view mirror and I can see it switch too. The outside mirrors have never dimmed for me in that active a manner, and I think they only have a passive coating on them but I'd love to stand corrected if that is the case.
