Another Hopeful NC Noob

You can just hold the card against the pillar. I already had to do this after 2 months.

With a dead fob you have to do the following, according to the manual: "Depleted Key Fob Battery.....It is still possible to access the car even if the key fob battery is depleted. Press the driver’s side door handle momentarilyand locate the camera on the B Pillar. Place the key fob on the B Pillar under the camera, and while still holding it,move the key fob in small circles."
Ahhhhh. You don’t have to move it in small circles; you can just hold it there. Moving it in small circles is just because there is no symbol or anything of where exactly to put it, so if it isn’t working you can “search for the spot” so to speak.

But it isn’t a requirement for it to work. It works the same way as the card, just in a different spot.

True. But you had better learn either or both ways because you cannot trust the battery life! Mine failed after 2 months or so.

Just bringing or learning one is fine; but I hear what you’re saying. I just use the mobile key and keep the card as a backup in my wallet (I don’t have other keys anymore).

But I have never used the card, other than to test it. 🤷‍♂️

I have a wonderfully working Samsung Note 9. The Lucid software will not work in it.
I also am used to the wonderful keyfob performance of my wife's Lexus or an econobox that I rent when traveling. Its hard to step backward.

Thanks for that. A quick test worked as you suggested. On the other hand, I carry my house keys in my pocket when I leave, so carrying a fob is no real change in behavior. I suppose if I am brave enough, I could stop carrying house keys - and the fob, and rely on my mobile. That would be great.

Being a novice to electric cars is full of new behaviors.
I was relying on my phone as my key. Then I was going in to replace my phone. I made a mental note to bring the fob with me but mental notes at my age are pretty worthless. So I didn't have the fob with me and didn't realize I might have a problem until they were half way through updating my new phone. I thought I might have to Uber back to my house to get the fob but the phone did get back to me in working order in time.

I trust the phone to work but what if the phone fails (of course, one could say the same thing about a fob and a battery failure; but, of course, a battery is easier to find remotely than to get a broken phone to work.). So I am now carrying the fob as well. Probably not necessary but the burden of carrying the small object is pretty insubstantial compared to what could happen if the phone broke.

Just stick the card key in your wallet. No need to carry the fob as a backup.
