Android Auto Thursday

Is there a crash course or website called Android Auto for Dummies? I have a Samsung S24. Other than using it as a phone, taking pictures and surfing the internet, that's the limit of my abilities. Old dog (75) needs to learn new tricks. Suggestions on how AA improves your experience, especially driving, would be greatly appreciated.
Mainly, you'll get to use Google maps or Waze or whatever instead of Lucid's nav, use Google Assistant/Gemini LLM instead of "Hey Lucid", and streaming media apps that Lucid doesn't have, like YouTube music.

It'll be almost as good as if your car had native Google apps, albeit only on a small rectangle of the upper screen. The downside is the bother of keeping it working.

Note: I have no knowledge of Lucid's implementation. Just my experience from using Android Auto on rental cars.

the best part I find, using my wife's Audi, is that Google maps on AA knows all your previous Google searches, favorites and trips. Ease of access to your data on The Google ecosystem.

On a side note, I had Lucid maps give me a better route cross town in rush hour traffic yesterday, than Google. First time.

Back to the topic at hand, the interesting thing we got yesterday was an email saying to connect your car to your home wireless to get updates faster. I would wager this is a rather large update and being on a solid WiFi connection will help in the background download. This message is great except for the fact that a lot of us turned off WiFi to improve mobile key and app usage. Decisions!!?!?!? To Wifi or Not to Wifi?
The answer is it won't make a difference

It sounds like it's recommended that we turn on the wifi to ensure reliable software update download. I also had disabled wifi because the mobile app will not wake up and sync/connect to the car if wifi is connected. This is replicable consistently. There seems to be others who are running into same issue and had disabled the wifi. Is there a separate thread on this wifi issue so I can follow up there for a fix/solution?

This is an ongoing issue where often our "fix" is to just shut a feature off- and without detailed explanation on OTA updates we are left clueless. I'm glad we are being told to put wifi back on- please report back if anyone experiences any of the historical issues.

We aren't being told to turn wifi back on specifically because items are fixed. It's simply for improved OTA experience. As soon as my car is back on the Wifi, the wake issues started again. So for now, it's pick your poison. I've gotten out of the habit of using the Android app in general so turning on Wifi won't impact me for now. I have it back on so I can hope for a better update experience. Once this OTA comes out, I'll probably turn it back off since the next updates will be smaller (assuming 2.7.x releases and not a 2.8)

That's one of Lucid's nav search box shortcomings - it seems to have no knowledge of your previous searches, nor where you are currently located, to help focus a search. The native Google nav we have in our other EV will correctly offer a frequently-searched or recently-searched destination typically after the first letter is entered by the user. And it prioritizes nearby results over similarly-named destinations much farther away.

Ensure your Air is connected to Wi-Fi. Your mobile phone has nothing to do with this. It takes very few bytes to send a notification to your phone that the download is ready for installation.

Wi-fi connectivity has no impact on PAAK, mobile app, or native app performance.

It is strongly advised to connect your Lucid to Wi-Fi to ensure for fast, reliable software update downloads.
Tried turning wifi on. Parked in the street my Wi-Fi signal is weak but the car remains connected. This results in the app indicating that the car is offline. 🤷‍♂️ Probably a bug but another reason to leave wifi off.

You'll be fine either way. It will download over cellular, it will likely just take longer.
