After over a year of ownership, I still don't understand the entry/approach software of this car

2025 AT that I've only had a couple of weeks, but while I was prepared to deal with unlocking/locking problems, I haven't had any so far. Maybe once I had to stand by the driver's door for an extra four seconds before the system detected me, but otherwise it's been fine. Importantly, mine is the only profile that's set up and we've never switched drivers, so maybe it's a multiple-profile thing. If it goes to sh*t when I add my wife, her fob, her phone, etc, I'll let you all know.

We don't have problems any more either as my wife drives the Air very infrequently, we use the fobs rather than mobile keys, and we keep her fob in a Faraday bag.

I don’t have problems as I don’t use the fob. When I do use it, it tends to work fine, but I always click the button, rather than risk frustration.

With mobile key I just tap my phone screen if needed and it’s fine.

I have a theory about profile selection: I suspect, in the presence of both keys, it is more likely to select the profile which has the most recently-linked key. Try it?

Do you have any profile contention issues if you are accompanied by someone else who has linked their phone as a mobile key?

I haven't tried the new test where we both are in the car. I believe it should pick hers as she is set to primary.

Actually just a couple of days ago we happened to accidentally "test" this. My wife last drove, and had her phone and her fob. I had just my phone and was several steps back. She opened the driver's door and the car loaded my profile.

Yes. If Annie and I approach at the same time it always used to select her, despite the fact that I drive it much more often. I unlinked her mobile key for a while, but it was annoying. Now that I relinked mine after, it picks me.

So it isn’t that it solves the profile contention problem, but that it seems to make it more *predictable*, which is good enough for me.

Right, but was your key linked most recently? That is, if you unlink her key and re-link it… does that make it select her first?

It would be nice if this function were a user settable preference.

I think most of us have frustrating issues with Air keys early in ownership. Then we work out a solution that works for our individual situation, and the result is in the OK range.

Oh goodness idk. I'm thinking mine was actually linked most recently because I had to relink it after 2.6.0 but I don't believe she did.

similar .. new '25 AT .. single driver. I use my digital key (phone) as well as sometimes the key fob. very few issues if any - proximity unlock works generally well (a miss here or there but that's the exception), phone digital key for lock / unlock as well as drive works almost flawlessly. but only one driver and one registered profile.

That's the easiest use case to obtain a satisfactory result with the Air. I modified our key-carrying behavior to get back to your situation, but with two keys active.
