Air intake areas on the air after the Arizona haboob.

I was unfortunately driving at the time of the massive haboob (dust storm) in Arizona a couple days ago. It happened so quickly, there was no chance to try to shut the car down. When it came around I shut off my AC thinking I might be able to avoid the car sucking in more of the dust cloud, but because it is hot I know some of the fans continue to run to cool the internals of the car.

The car was pretty caked in dirt/mud after the storm. I sprayed the car with water to get most of that off.

My question is where are the air intake areas on the car that I could try to clean up or remove dust from so that as I drive the car doesn't suck any more of that in--if any of the dirt might still be at or near wherever it enters? Is anything like that possible? Any other maintenance beyond a good car bath I can take?

You may want to change the cabin air filters.

I was looking at videos of that. I can't even begin to imagine being caught in that. One of the things that crossed my mind was how it would affect a Lucid, or any car.
 
Usually it is fine, you need to below the AC filter and engine intake for ICE with high pressure air

For lucid, I would just wash the car and focus on the lower side of the front bumper since it is housing the fans and the gates

This is my take on it

I have driven through small dusty weathers before but extreme high temperatures like 122 F and it was not a big deal

If there is something unusual then

The videos of that storm were terrifying! I am glad your Lucid survived! This is how you access the cabin air filters (according to ChatGPT). Attached an image as well!

According to the Lucid Air owner’s manuals, there are two cabin air filters installed to clean incoming air of pollen, dust, and other particles. To access the filters, you’ll need to remove the under-hood rear apron (maintenance panel):


  1. Lift the rear edge of this panel.
  2. Release the ten clips securing it to the body.
  3. Remove the access panel to reveal the filters behind.

Someone posted the price for air filters a while ago but I can't recall.
I'd go to the SC and have them change the filters since this kind of clips have been a pain for me.
You'll get a free wash from the SC, too.
Please give us an update how much this costs.
 
Definitely wayyyyyyy more than a standard air filter would cost...my understanding is that Lucid charges around $75 per air filter + installation, or you can buy them yourself for around $25 as they are fairly standard sized.

But Lucid may not have an available appointment for a while.

Ha! Many years ago, I encountered a bad one on the day that I was taking the flight test for my private pilot's license. It was back in the days when small planes could operate out of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. I touched down with an L1011 on final behind me, and the haboob fast approaching from the south. Got back to the tie-downs just in time. (Haboob! Just called it a dust storm back then.) BTW, I passed. Cheating out death is a powerful motivator.
