Electrify America Charged me today

I have free charging. Besides a couple long trips, on average my monthly charge on EA is just once. So its like saving $6 bucks a month. My wife sometimes tells me to stop charging for free because it takes about 30 minutes of charging and 5-10 to get there, to only save $6-8 dollars.

It sounds like a big perk but in my case its not. So dont sweat it too much.

Despite charging at home I spent about &1,800 with Tesla over 3 years, as we do a lot of road tripping; from Dallas to Orlando, LA, Seattle etc etc. in theory I could spend $1,200 with EA over 3 years so it’s not insignificant but honestly I don’t really care about the money part. If they didn’t offer the free charging I would still have bought it and even with free charging on EA I will use whichever network is the most convenient or has the nicest restaurant nearby…
It’s simply the principle of it.
If they include it in the deal, it expect to get it.
If they had told me the delivery day of a few days was going to be mean I didn’t get the charging and did I want to cancel I would still have proceeded with the purchase. Not telling me and letting me find out for myself and then saying “car was delivered too late, nothing we can do, you’re not entitled to it” is *not* ok. In fact it has me wondering what kind of company I’m dealing with.

So as a matter of principle I’m going to push them to add the car to the plan as a test to see if they will do the right thing, that will tell me what to expect when dealing with them going forward.
If they don’t… every time the car has a software hiccup that flashes up an error saying contact customer service I’ll have them send someone to deal with it, whereas at the money I’m trying not to waste their time and money on what I suspect are just software bugs.

Well, I got charged for my EA charging today despite being well within free 1 year and 1000 kW😢. And it was not a regular credit card hold (which happened too and was promptly returned). I called lucid customer service and they have confirmed that my free allowance is still active. They advised me to email the receipt to customer service and to ask for refund, which I did. Let’s see what happens next.

Nice to see EA is good at one thing. Charging cards, not cars….

I charged two days ago at EA. it took a while to recognize my car. i had to plug in several times . well, today I noticed $325 of pending EA charges. haha. I still have free charging with Lucid. lets see if they charge me or not. it was a bunch of $25 dollar charges.

I was improperly charged yesterday even though I have free EA charging remaining.

Customer service had me email them for reimbursement.

Don't hold your breath. Same thing happened to me. I emailed customer service and they replied to me within a week confirming that I am still within my free charging period and promising reimbursement (that was 2 weeks ago). None has come thus far and I tried to charge at EA again, and my card was again charged through Lucid. They have not been answering my emails since their first response. So I'm not sure what to do next. Maybe I'll write them again, although looks like a lost case to me. I still have ~ 400 kWh left, which is about $200 in NorCal prices. Not sure how much energy/time I am prepared to spend on sorting this out... 😢

Customer service finally got back to me. They are going to send me a reimbursement check in the mail for the 2 charged EA sessions. I still have free charging left until September.

A few days ago I plugged into an EA stall at Cedar City UT. Planning to stay a while for dinner, I set the charge level to 100%, and walked away. Twelve minutes later, after having just ordered my dinner (I DON’T recommend Applebee’s, anywhere or anytime), I checked my phone to see if the car was still charging. Just like it did during a charging session 300 miles earlier that morning (Glenwood Canyon CO), the charger stopped charging after only a few minutes.

There is no way to restart charging on your phone app, once charging stops and you get the useless and unhelpful “Cable Connected” notification. So I ran out to my car to restart the charging. Unfortunately, unlike the previous time that morning in Colorado, I got back to my car too late.

EA charged me an “Excessive Idle” fee of 85 cents, for two minutes of “Idle”. My car had only been charging for only a few minutes, when the charging stall decided on its own to stop charging. The charge level reached 31%, far short of the preset 100%.

Annoying, vexing, mildly frustrating. But, hey, at least an EA DCFC stall was immediately available upon my arrival, albeit de-rated.
