Adaptive Cruise - why does it require manual intervention from 0mph to resume driving in stop-and-go traffic

I Luv Lucy…

Fortunately, they have recently improved this and if you are facing forward with your eyes open there is no need to toggle the switch. It automatically resumes, no problem.

Since you don’t have the DDP I can see why you’d be confused tho.
Too bad the car can't see my eyes because of the odd placement of the sensor...

I adjusted the steering wheel so that the face sensor can see my eyes. The wheel blocks a portion of the top rim of the driver's display. I got used to it.

I'm glad you were able to do that. I would have to block a considerable chunk of the display for the sensor to see me. Not worth it to me

Agreed, I might be a happier man if I didn’t have the convenience of reading these threads while Drive Assist happily drives in the background…

It’s a nice feature, but with how great this car drives it’s not a need. $2,500 is a small price to pay for the software and hardware upgrade.

Re @LuvLucy you can still design and get a custom Air ordered via Lucid, so if you didn’t see any stock ones to your liking it’s an option for other people to go that route.

Also, writing this post while being driven feels a bit like Cigars at the Ritz… (inspired by the Queen song)

Yes, driving this car also feels like dining at the Ritz or The Reform Club. (or Providence LA)

What can I say?

PERFECTION

The way I see it the new fee is essentially a charge for the hardware. You are still gambling on it working in the future but you are not paying for the non existent future software. A very reasonable fee, IMO, for the Lidar alone.

You may change your tune when hands-free driving comes starting a little over a week from now*.

That feature is almost guaranteed to require the camera being able to see your eyes.

*As announced by Lucid recently in a press release. Actual release date may vary.

Possibly. I'll have to see if it's any good first. If it performs like the current drive assist, I'm unlikely to use it because it simply cannot be trusted

Yeah, that's all up to the individual. I only use HA on longer trips, and mostly on pretty straight highways where I just want to give my foot a rest.

I, too, would never trust any ADAS system. I use them. But I don't trust them.

Yeah I definitely use cruise just not the drive assist. One of the biggest, most severe annoyances really is how poorly the system handles crossroads on state highways or on ramps and off ramps on freeways when the solid line cuts to the side to temporarily add the new lane. The car decides it wants to follow that solid line instead of following the dotted line that continues straight so it jerks the wheel to the side which requires intervention every single time. That can be anticipated and the wheel can be held firm but the car still tries to turn even when the wheel is held.
