Hi there, new Lucid Air owner! Ever wondered why you need to link your car key to the vehicle? Does the key even work if you skip that step?

Assuming you're talking about a fob, you can't actually link it to the vehicle, that's already done for you. What you're doing is linking it to your profile so that your settings for seat position and whatnot load when you get in the car with that fob. If you're the only one driving the car, it doesn't do much of anything for you.

makes sense. thank you! Do people actually only use their phone daily and leave the fob at home?

Yes! Many do, myself included. You should carry the key card as a backup, but I've never been forced to use it. My fob sits on a shelf at home unless I'm going somewhere with valet service.

I literally don't know where my fob is.

I should find it before my next service. Though they've apparently paired a keycard and kept one (with my permission) because I so often have no idea where my fob is haha.

I use only my phone, with the keycard in my wallet as a backup in case my phone battery dies.

I do also. The keycard serves as a backup if your phone suddenly failed, you lost it, it was stolen, dropped, etc. Not a big deal but one less thing to carry in one's pocket.

Important: Keep the keycard in your wallet - The keyfob battery may die rapidly.
The NFC function keyfob can be used to open the car when the keyfob battery is dead. Hold the keyfob below the camera on the driver's side door and press the handle in.

I was trying to go phone only like in my prior Tesla but it’s been too unreliable to the point I’m standing outside the car up to 30 seconds sometimes for an unlock. I’ve started using my fob for instant access. Hopefully they improve this.
