Unresolved Suspension Clunk 5 Months Later

Hi @TakeDuo,

I finally got an update/response from the remote technician I’ve been working with - I’ll attach a screenshot of the reply below. Unfortunately it looks like the suspension clunk is going to be labeled as a normal, which I’m not particularly happy about. Please note that I’m not mad or frustrated directly with the remote technicians because they’ve truly been making an effort to pinpoint the issue. I think this just shows the downside of living far from an actual service center when dealing with a hard to pinpoint issue.

I’m hoping someone higher up in Lucid will take action and investigate further considering many of us are dealing with the same problem. I think my next step is to get an alignment from a nearby shop to see if that fixes the sloppy handling.

Did you try isolate if this happens on left side vs right side only by going over road imperfections with one wheel only? This could be ball joints, sway bar links, control arms. The proper was to diagnose would be to place the car on suspension testing machine. Without driving observe and locate the noise. Use stethoscope to narrow it down. It will be really hard to figure out while driving what's causing this noise.

I can confirm I only hear it coming from the front drivers side.

hiiiiii! just curious, i was listening to the video and def hear what you’re talking about. does the clunk sound metallic in nature -almost like a hard “knock?” or (to me it sounds a bit…) plasticy? i know recording audio doesn’t 100% replicate so that’s why i’m asking

Hey! It definitely sounds metallic - sometimes it'll do a double knock as if some metal part is jiggling in place. I'm honestly out of ideas on how to describe the noise 😂

ahhhh i’m so sad. i’ve been rummaging through a bunch of videos and i think i found the one with the specific answer to your problem 😭 but i lost it. i’m going to keep rummaging back through but the thing that tipped me off is the clunking noise and the steering wheel pull. i’ll let you know when i find it, but 99% sure it’s a suspension issue. there’s a specific part further up the system that causes this. brb

Hello everyone! I’m not entirely sure what I’ll get from sharing this, but here it goes –

I leased my 2023 Lucid Air Pure AWD back in early April, and overall, it’s been a great experience—except for one frustrating suspension issue that remains unresolved.

Whenever I drive over rough roads or through parking lots at speeds between 5-20 mph, there’s a persistent clunking noise coming from the front driver’s side. It sounds like something might be loose, possibly a sway bar. If I hit a moderate bump at higher speeds, the clunk happens once, more suddenly and louder than the usual noise. Additionally, I often find myself gripping the steering wheel tightly and constantly making small corrections to avoid ‘ping-ponging’ within the lane, especially on the highway.

I reported the issue to service shortly after getting the car, and they diagnosed it as a defective ‘damper spring assembly,’ which they replaced. Unfortunately, that didn’t fix the noise.

After getting the car back, I informed them the clunk was still there. Remote technicians came out but couldn’t replicate the sound. On my third complaint, they compared it with another Lucid Air at a nearby shop and concluded the clunking must be ‘normal,’ as the other car had the same issue.

I’ve also seen other threads mentioning a similar issue caused by loose tie rod ends, but the remote technicians checked mine and said they were fine.

Has anyone else dealt with this and found a solution? Is a persistent clunk from the front driver’s side really considered normal? I’m thinking about taking it to an independent shop to investigate further, but I’m unsure of what to do next. My lease is 18 months, and while I could tolerate this until the end, I’m questioning whether I should have to.
I have experienced the very same experience when driving over rough roads or hitting a particularly deep pothole.

I shared this thread with Lucid Customer Service Center, and as result, they have concluded that this condition in my Lucid Air Pure AWD is worth further investigation, inspection, and corrective action as necessary.

It would seem as evidenced by other Lucid Air owners in this thread that we all have had similar experience with this suspected condition in the front end suspension.

I, for one, will let you and others know what transpires in the process and as a result, the hopeful correction of whatever the cause or causes of this suspicious sound.

Thank you for the update! I’m really curious to see how things unfold on your end—hopefully, Lucid sorts it out sooner rather than later.

I haven’t been able to get in touch with the Lucid technician I’ve been working with, so I’m hoping that means it’s being looked into behind the scenes. In the meantime, I’ve scheduled to drop my car off at a highly rated independent shop on December 5th to get an outside perspective and see if they can figure out what’s going on. I’m already halfway through my lease, so I’m eager to get this resolved. I’ll make sure to update the thread with anything I find on my end as well.

Quick update - had my car looked at by an independent shop and they also believe the clunking noise could be coming from the front driver side strut. Other than that, no new revelations.

Next step is to try reaching out to my Lucid for a third time and hope I get a reply. My Lucid experience is quickly souring and I’m about over it. There seems to be no sense of urgency on getting this fixed.

I’ve got the same noise, just started as temperatures here in Ohio dropped below 30. Only happens when driving slowly over bumps. I added it to my service call (they are coming to Ohio on 12/16 to do the sound pro upgrade and try to fix “Hey Lucid” not seeing my phone contacts. I’ll report back if they find a bad strut (my suspicion).

I have the same noise on 2022 GT, started like a month ago. Will report to my Mobile tech.

Also, i used to have exact same noise on my Model 3 before :(

The shop I took my car to told me that they've seen the same issue on some Model 3's!

Also just heard back from my Lucid technician that they are in fact working with management to figure out next steps... 🤞

I have a service appointment scheduled to troubleshoot front end suspension clunking noise experienced in my Lucid Air Pure week after next.

I will report back what technicians find to correct this condition that may be helpful to other Lucid owners who have had the same issue to date.

Thank you, i dont feel this is super annoying unless Lucid say deal with it ;)

I believe I have the same problem on my 2025 Air Pure RWD (delivered August 2024). The front left suspension makes clunking noise when it hits uneven surfaces. The passenger side, on the other hand, has been rock solid. No noise whatsoever. Video attached below.

In a little more than 4 months of ownership, the car was back in the service center twice for a total of ~30 days (no loaner either). In the second visit, the service center did take a look at the suspension but found nothing wrong. The technician was even nice enough to take a short drive with me to confirm the problem. Alas, the road around the NorCal Burlingame service center was pretty smooth, and I only managed to make it clunk once. Wasn't enough to convince the technician there was anything odd.

Yup that’s definitely the same clunking noise I’m experiencing! Gosh, I was hoping this wasn’t an issue on newer Airs

Probably the last service update from me - one of the mobile tech managers requested I drive my car 4 hours down to the service center in Houston to show them the clunking noise. I declined in hopes that one of handful of other owners experiencing the same issue gets it resolved.

I have attached below a response I received from Lucid Customer Service today in appreciation for information shared in this forum about this reported clunking noise. Information as described in this forum has been shared with Lucid service technicians team. I hope this has broad application for the rest of us who are still dealing with this issue in the hope that by describing shared experiences in this way and by our individual collaboration with Lucid technical support, this issue will be resolved sooner than later.

Text message from Lucid Customer Service Rep: “Good afternoon. This (information shared) is actually really helpful. Let me forward this information to our team here and hopefully this [new information] could also resolve [your] case as well.”

I accidentally posted this under someone else’s thread rather than here -

“Hi – I honestly can’t stop dwelling on this. As previously mentioned, I was asked to drive my leased Air 4 hours to the nearest service center just to duplicate the suspension clunk in person, with no guarantee they’d keep it or provide a loaner. I did forget to mention that I waited over a month just to get that response, when I thought I was waiting for parts that were supposedly on order.

Why should I have to road trip my leased car just to get it looked at? Why should I have to road trip my car that’s having handling issues? I mean I’ve literally mentioned how it’s impossible to keep centered in my lane while driving down the highway - yet I’m asked to drive it 4 hours to the nearest service center?! I’ve already duplicated the issue numerous times, both in person and on video. If changing the struts didn’t fix it the first time, then I don’t know – maybe it’s time to look at and replace the steering rack, sway bar, wheel bearing, literally anything else?

Any suggestions on what I should do next or who I can contact? What do I need to do for this to be taken seriously? I really don’t want to be a Karen here, but I’m over halfway through my lease now and still haven’t been able to enjoy the ride. It handles terribly, and the suspension sounds like a toolbox orgy.

I regret leasing a Lucid at this point.”

I’ll try to also take more video footage of the clunking noise @KidRich. Perhaps more footage of the noise posted online will cause Lucid to step up to the plate and fix it.
