Still wavering on the fence

With the mobile key, it can be iffy and occasionally unresponsive. The fob works 95% of the time, but rarely will fail and/or make you wait a few seconds. All of this is on 1.0.

On 2.0, mobile key has been absolutely flawless. I forgot where my fob even was until I had to find it today for my wife.
You have no idea how happy it makes me to hear this. I was hoping to never have to use the fob, but all the reports of issues with 1.x had me thinking I would end up having little choice.

Carry the credit card key just in case. Good if your phone battery dies.
Good advice. I keep my Tesla card in my wallet. Saved my butt a couple of times.

Well the good thing about the fob is it doubles as a key card...

I think my car on 1.2.x is worse than most. With the standard bing the door handles open based on proximity or with one single push of the door handle, the key fob works 75% of the time, the mobile key maybe 50% of the time. I can't wait to try out the 2.0 software!

So do I, along with my Lucid card. Every few days our Tesla (a 2021) quits recognizing the key fob and the mobile key to start the car (and sometimes also to open the door). So I have to rub the key card over the wireless phone charging pad to start the car. On days this happens when I'm running errands, the malfunction continues at every stop and usually won't disappear until the car has gone into deep sleep. On those days, I don't even put the key card back into my wallet so that I can quickly pull it out of my pocket every time I approach the car.

The flawless reliability of Tesla software is a total myth.

I have had my car a few weeks now but I have not driven it but around the block twice as it's not ready for prime time (waiting paint protection appointment). I do have locking/unlocking experience, because I have been installing a panel/charger in the garage all this time, with the car watching me work. Here's what I observed my car doing:

Every time I open the garage door (from the house) the car wakes, flaps it's hands, and lights up. In my experience, the car is like a puppy and leaps up every time it sees you. I know it wasn't the "key fob" ?? (what is that?) because it had a dead battery and did not do anything but slip from my hand into the sewer grate every time I tried to fish it out of my pocket. Could have been my phone as the DA downloaded the app and set=up the car for me. I don't like my phone. I don't want a phone. Is my phone waking up the car? How can I stop this activity? Is there any way to "pull the plug" on a lucid?

Key Fob: black, shaped like a cuttle bone and as hard to hang onto as a wet bar of soap, with a powerful attraction to storm sewers. Faint Lucid logo on one side can be seen at high noon at summer solstice and mysytic runes on the concave side that can only be seen at last light on Durin's Day (even Gandalf knows not their purpose). Comes with dead battery installed. Once you replace the battery spend a few days trying to guess how it works (....the secret is hidden) it will plague you like a curse. If you have the time, try threading the "lanyard". (LOL). This is the black magic heart of Lucid. Best if wrapped in foil and burried in wet sand at low tide. Absolutely requires a Faraday cage if you can't get rid of it otherwise.

Card Key: I'm guessing here, that you are talking about the Lucid credit card. This thing works for me, flawlessly. What is the deal? I don't even have to remove it from my wallet. I'm going to try it on hotel rooms and ATMs.

The phone: is this the mobile key? Why aren't you saying phone? Does the phone app unlock the car when it's in my pocket? I can't explain why my car unlocks every time I go near it. Is it doing this by facial recognition ? Because the DA guy made me do the face plant thing as I sat behind the wheel (I did not know what was happening ...it was all so new and exciting and unexpected)...why do I need that? and does it now recognize me from every camera, even when I'm working in the garage?

Here is my question. What is a "mobile key" ?

oh, just thought of another: how many ways are there to open this car? Keys. how many keys are there ?

Serious suggestion: read the manual.

I tried to edit the frustration out of my post above but took too long.
Here is what I would like to have posted:

2. the black credit card thingie?
3. the phone app ?

Mobile key = mobile “phone” key

Your phone is a key, it transmit Bluetooth signal to handshake your car to Auto Unlock the doors when you are nearby.

‘Mobile key’ refers to the link between your phone and car which technically allows you to fully utilize your car with just your phone on you. No need for fob or key card (the other two ‘key’ variations). That being said, there have been several novels worth of posts on the variable reliability of the mobile key from user to user on this forum. I’ve personally always found it to be reliable.

It's your phone. Specifically, when you setup your profile, you linked your phone as a mobile key. If you don't want your car turning on/off all the time, either unlink it or disable Bluetooth on your phone.

Still trying to get used to the fluidity and speed of the change in English usage. In a world where literally literally doesn't necessarily mean literally...just saying "mobile key" instead of "phone" confuses the heck out of me. Why make it hard when we have perfectly understood and useful words at hand?

It's a cliche that engineers are poor communicators. Mobile Key sounds like nerd talk. It's a phone.

Lets us eschew obsfucation when we post ... for the old folks.

My mobile key (iPhone) has been 100% reliable. I still carry the card in my wallet just in case my phone battery dies or whatever. The fobs? I put them away in my safe and I’ve never used them a single time. They seems they eat their own batteries, and I don’t want to worry about that or carrying something else around since I always have my iPhone. The car does unlock and lock itself if you get close to it (15 feet or so) even if you don’t intend to drive it (i.e. walk out in the garage for another reason). But, that’s OK with me.

I, too, have been on the fence but have been pushed over to the buy side by these things:

1). Test drive- the car is amazing to drive
2). SW 2.0+ update as reported by the Beta group here has been extremely positive. More to come.
3). I will not ever get one at the legacy price again. While prices rise for Tesla, Ford, and Lucid, I am locked in to the original price. Even if moving my reservation to a purchase agreement doesn’t fit the IRS rules for the tax credit, it will still be a bargain
4). The technology. It is what brought me to the table and is still a key factor in keeping me committed to purchase.

Same. I’ve transitioned to 100% mobile key and wallet-carry my credit card key (valet). Looking forward to new software. The buzz around the new software alone should be enough for those on the fence. To get this back to OPs topic haha.

Mobile Key a no-go for me and has been that way for months. It's not "hit-or-miss" either. It just does not work, period.

I would suggest you delete the mobile key and reinstall it. Make sure the key fobs are out of range when you do it. Once you get it working fine, it’s actually a pleasure to use. If that is unsuccessful, contact service.

Yes, that has been tried several times, by both myself and by service. They know about it, but there are bigger fish to fry.
