It's a shame they don't have a better navigation system. It reenforces the need for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Once they have that worked out, I doubt I will be using much of their UI, which is really sad, considering the "effort" they put into it and the waste of resources in the car I paid for. I'm sure they are trying to figure out how to properly display the CarPlay/Auto information, given their non square upper panel. Maybe it will be a smaller area and possibly a swipe down will reveal a larger UI in the lower panel. CarPlay has a dual screen function, and I hope they use that, otherwise it would be a waste of screen real estate – it may work especially well in the left center part of the screen which is currently occupied by the words "Air".
Wouldn’t you be giving up niceties by bypassing the built-in Nav? Features like predicting range limits and suggesting charging stations along the route for a given destination?

I must confess that reading so many of the basics that Lucid didn’t get right out of the box, is more than a bit disconcerting. As Bill said, it’s one thing for some advanced features to not have come on line yet, but it’s not acceptable for so many truly basic things to not work properly.

These basic failings don’t lend themselves to a dismissive, ‘Well, it’s a brand new car, you have to expect that’. That’s Tesla forum material. It’s a luxury car and should behave that way, it should not be an ongoing source of frustration, not for $170,000, not for $40,000. The drivetrain simply does not compensate for issues with doors, HomeLink, blanking screens, boot up times, radio etc.

Lucid needs to get these basics fixed quickly lest they develop a reputation they can’t afford. You know what they say about first impressions. There will be too many alternatives in the not too distant future. Yes, even if the alternatives don’t have the stellar drivetrain and handling of the Lucid, if the car works as advertised, I’d bet most buyers will select it.

If we’re still discussing these issues by the time the Pure arrives (and I suspect/hope we won’t), I’ll have serious doubts about Lucid’s future.
 
HomeLink works "Great™" for me: I have 3 garage doors (Left, Middle & Right). I approach the house from the left side. The car pops up only the Left garage HomeLink setting. Unfortunately, I want to park at the Right door. By the time I get to the right door, however, the Left garage door is no longer displayed. I have to press the upper part of the screen (which I thought were individual buttons, but not). Usually all the HomeLink settings for my garage location pop up – actually I get more than the 3 garage doors, because I decided to program some gates for other locations at my current location - but I ignore those. It's obvious that his was designed in a vacuum, or at least in an office behind a development system. They need to eat their own dog food, but I don't think they have a concept of what that is.

I didn't even bother to program my entry gate into the Homelink once I found how many steps it takes to open a garage door. I was leaving the gate open much of the time, anyway, as I don't want packages left there and have now decided to do so all the time, even though I still carry a hand remote in the car as backup should Homelink finish kicking the bucket.

Did you do anything in the settings menu to activate geofencing for Homelink, or was the feature just there? Nothing pops up when I approach the garage.
 
I certainly did not expect them to struggle on the basics. I was shocked to hear they do not support Sirius/XM. That is something basic I have and use in all my other cars, not to mention many of the basic Features mentioned above. The fact they cannot do the most basic of tasks like lock/unlock, Audio, Nav, etC. is just appalling and embarrassing. At some point, owning a Lucid will be an embarrassment to its’ owners if they do not get this remedied. The last thing I want to do is get into the car with my wife, try to do something basic, have it not work and get the “you paid how much for this car”.

My expectations were obviously a bit higher than Lucid’s reality. Lucid itself raised those expectations when they announced the six month delay “to get the car right”. What were they doing the past six months other than making YouTube videos, going public through the back door and hyping the stock?

I sincerely hope they can get their act together and fix these issues before they ask me for payment. If not, I will forego the EV experience. I believe many other GT buyers will be reconsidering their purchase if these basic issues are not addressed before being asked to lay out their cash.

They have a very limited time to fix all of these issues. A couple of DE buyers might just get fed up with the experience and demand their money back. Lemon laws are too easy to support given the website claims certain functionality that is not there. Heck, the basics are apparently missing in certain cases and they translate into safety issues. Not being able to reliably lock and unlock your car is a serious safety issue. They have a limited timeframe to correct these issues and I see it as weeks, not months.

This might sound stupid, but I've never seen you post about a service call. Has Lucid come out to pull data from your car to see what is causing some of the issues you are experiencing?
 
I think in the next few months, before they ask you to pay, you will get a better sense of how far along they are, especially with the software. Although I have other EVs to drive, I was hoping the software, as shipped, would have been more stable and more feature complete (and I'm not talking about the Dream Drive software).

I reserved a Pure and I figure those won't be made for a while so by the time they get to me I should know whether (a) they have figured out these various issues and fixed them; and (b) the charging infrastructure should be significantly improved.

Here in Phoenix I only see three EA charging sites in the entire massive greater Phoenix area and none of them are marked "L2". Based on the EA website, Tucson looks even worse. Please keep us posted on your experiences and I am especially interested in your range experience as your weather is similar to mine (with a 5 degree differential in your favor). I figure I will have many choices by the time they get to me and I need to decide about replacing my loaded BMW 530e.

Only because when I pull up the EA website it only shows original and L2 and doesn't even display L3. I play golf a lot at the Phoenician so I am often in your vicinity (and very much aware of the usual photoradar on Invergordon).

What are your charging experiences (other than inside your home) since you have acquired the Lucid?

I am still waiting for GT and I have never owned an EV before so I cannot comment on charging experiences. I was looking at the EA app to see all 9, but I also see the same on the EA site.

Yes Paradise Valley is known for its Photo Radar revenue program.

If every time your screen blacks out your memory is cleared, geofencing will never work. I have no inside track or info just from dealing with computers since 1983.
 
What amazes me most the overall lucid corporate team are no fools and a plethora of experience; especially Peter Rawlinson for its not his first rodeo. Being in manufacturing and startups my whole life the stab in the heart is releasing a product that has not been full vetted. Forget about the Motor Trend of the year award. i have a 488, AMGGT, GL63 and now a Lucid. I ha ve never seen a worse automotive product release for items that should work from the get go! For example the boot up time is correlated to programming and processor speed. One or the other can over come it’s defcinces. Sort of back during the Soviet era. They had poor hardware but had great software that would compensate for hardware deficiencies Sitting waiting for the electronics to boot up is an Exercise in mental masturbation. To conclude my rant , you mean to tell me they did not see these issues in pre production vehicles.
 
Lucid uses AT&T as the carrier for its LTE.

AT&T by my recollection has the worst network. But it probably won't matter if cars built in cellular device is awful. Where's the antenna? I posed this question at Studio and no one was able to answer.

Memory chips and processors are only one facet. Garbage in garbage out. Poor software code written.

I think the fine print somewhere said the first year is included. After that, I'm assuming, everyone will have to get their own plan for it as another device.

Just a recollection someone else may have better knowledge regarding it.
 
Reading all of these comments has me seriously questioning whether the Lucid GT is the right “first EV“ for me. I might be happier just getting another M5. If things do not improve by the time they ask me to pay, I fear Lucid just might not be the car for me at this time, if ever.
I find myself thinking about a B7 or an M5 also. I have 2700 mile road trip planned for end of February. I will be dropping the car in South Carolina where I’ll be splitting time with CA for a few months. Hopefully we will have some significant updates over those months. I really hope they find a way to have the processor sleep so boot time is not so long. Hard to argue against an M5. I had a very early E65 745 with the first idrive. That first idrive got a lot of bad press. I found that once you went through it and got all the preferences set it was ok. Of course the BMW had a lot more buttons that the Lucid. Worst part of that idrive was how often it rebooted. BMW has been shipping some cars without touch screens due to the chip shortage. I think it might be mostly X vehicles. If you use CarPlay do not get one without the touchscreen It will drive you crazy trying to use CarPlay from idrive.

I’ve reported everything to Lucid in detail. They don’t think a service call is needed. “Wait for the updates”

Since most community entry gates are usually not the type of system that requires learning (hard coded), you can program the entry gate the same way as a garage, except you don’t go through the training step. You can program it anywhere, except it will take the GPS location of where it was programmed. The car walks you through the steps and when it detects the gate signal, it skips the learning phase.

The geofencing is based on where you programmed the particular garage door, so no way to change it after programing currently.

I was originally told they use 5G in addition to LTE, and I even saw a 5G symbol in some old picture, but maybe they backed out of that.

Damn really? Where is your closest service center? Because that really sounds against all the service experience I've had as well as some of the other owners. Particularly, Jon Rettinger had 5 calls in the first month where mobile service came out to him.
 
Costa Mesa is the closest to San Diego. The lock/unlock is as programed with the variable being when the car detects the key fob. The cameras and park distance are as programed, the homelink is as programed, the mid drive freezing of the radio or the nav have always been solvable by switching to something else and switching back or a reboot. The system has always booted up. The long time for system to boot up is expected. The homelink doesn't recognize the geofence. Deleted it and reenter. Profile remembers the mirrors one time and not the next. Readjust the mirrors and add to profile again. There really is no discernible mechanical failure which is great. However, all that can be done is wait for the software upgrades. What are they going to do, come out to hold my hand and tell me things will get better? Really looking forward to being out on the road where most of these things won't matter. We need music and for the car to go, and a little luck that the chargers at our overnight stays are in working order.
