I recall reading that article last year.
It makes sense to me.
I'm not the type of customer that says "just give me what I want".
Especially when I understand the reasons (data access for product improvement, in-house product development).
Sometimes customers think they know what they want, but that's sometimes based on limited access to information.
If carmakers simply gave customers what they want, basic ADAS features would be optional because people can't be bothered with information/warnings intended to save themselves and others. Whose got time for that!?
Posts in the 3.5.1 thread had also suggested what the article reveals.
And they all get a fail from me as well honestly. BMW and Ford both did it and it's just lazy on any manufacturers part to not implement this.
It’s got nothing to do with laziness. Maybe automakers don’t want to give Apple or Google the keys to the kingdom and allow them to use that data to their own benefit.
There’s a reason CarPlay ultra has failed and it’s got nothing to do with an automakers “laziness”
Going to disagree, that's farfetched and not what's happening but whatever.
Having been in the web tech field for over 30 years what I say isn't far fetched at all. Data ownership is king and worth a lot of money. Giving the data to Google/Apple is losing ownership of the data (note that web referral payments have been going on since at least 1995)
