Seriously, I am excited for it still just sad they didn't implement of the most (IMO at least) important bits of CarPlay/AA. Getting my Gravity back from service tomorrow and hoping the update will come before/soon after that.

From the looks of it online, it’s probably already pushed to your car. Seems to be coming fast.
 
PSA - For folks who’ve updated - I have the updated app and my car is updated, but I did not have the remote start icon in my app. SO, I logged out of app and back in and the icon appeared!
 
Everyone is talking about CarPlay. How does Android Auto look on it? Any Android user?

It’s got nothing to do with laziness. Maybe automakers don’t want to give Apple or Google the keys to the kingdom and allow them to use that data to their own benefit.

There’s a reason CarPlay ultra has failed and it’s got nothing to do with an automakers “laziness”

I mean, that's an assumption but sure even in that case they're dumb for not doing it.

Let's make an assumption here (which I don't think is too far fetched). If you have control of the mapping and State of Charge then you control the which charging stations cars get routed too. Perhaps there are referral monies involved (not unheard of). Now if you expose the SoC data to google/apple guess who's going to be getting those referral monies (note it wouldn't be the car maker). If you are the car maker would you be willing to give up the potential revenue stream?

Having been in the web tech field for over 30 years what I say isn't far fetched at all. Data ownership is king and worth a lot of money. Giving the data to Google/Apple is losing ownership of the data (note that web referral payments have been going on since at least 1995)
 
Carplay looks and works amazingly so far! Perfect timing too with getting my Gravity back today and using Carplay on the Air loaner for a week. Haven't had much chance to check out it all, but I am loving having Carplay back in my car!
 
Anyone with premium sound system tried playing music thru CarPlay and see if they miss Atmos or notice any loss of sound quality? If native Tidal sounds notably better than CarPlay, that would be a deal breaker for me.

I mean, I was in tech for decades too. I understand what data is worth, I'm just saying I don't at all think this is what's happening here nor do I think any EV has done this.

So, I successfully updated my car in my garage in Atlanta from San Diego and the house didn’t burn down. That’s a promising start.
