My Air Pure is currently in the service center for HV battery replacement and I received a software notification to 2.8.17.

I never received 2.8.17, 2022 AGT with Dream Drive Pro. Today, I received a SAFETY RECALL notice in the mail from Lucid. It basically said that some 2022-2026 Lucid Airs when put in Reverse will not display the rearview image which may cause an accident. Thankfully, I have not had this problem, but it is concerning that I did not receive it when they were pushing it months ago.

I contacted Customer Service and they told me they’ll alert my Service Center. I imagine they’ll push 2.8.17 to me in time. We’ll see.

It’s crazy what the human mind will do with confirmation bias. I once put a car in reverse and dismissed the rear view camera while I fiddled with the nav/music. I then reversed out of my driveway on muscle memory, all the while staring at the screen, expecting it to show the rear view camera display like it always does.

It wasn’t until I put the car in drive that I realized I was staring at some static screen that wasn’t even a camera picture! That scared the crap out of me. How many times have I been reversing with my eyes effectively closed, and would I do it again?

I can see why this is a safety recall.

I've done this in both my Air and our Volvo EV, which share the same issue. The Volvo is also subject to an OTA software "recall" for that reason.

Driving aids are making people worse drivers. The back up camera is but one data point, which is primarily to view the small blind spot directly behind the car.

The thing that concerns me is 2.8.17 says it’s for “Robustness and general functionality”. We all know how much we’ve beaten that dead horse here. But for it to show up in my mailbox as a SAFETY RECALL and not described appropriately in the software “WHAT’S NEW” doesn’t seem like good business to me. If it’s urgent enough to issue a recall, tell me what you are fixing in the software notes!! The fact that I was never offered 2.8.17 is also concerning.

They don't do the jokey "robustness" notes anymore I don't think. So that's an old note.

This is the Safety Recall notice I received a couple days ago. Curious if anyone else received one too.

Recall notices are usually sent a month or two after the fix exists. You should be installing any and all new updates, but they couldn’t have announced a recall via release notes before they sent notices, I’d guess?

Could be they just didn’t write any notes. But it’s at least a possibility that they didn’t want to get ahead of the recall notice? Not sure about the regulations around this so I could be completely off base; it’s just a guess.

As I said before, I was never offered the update. Back when they released the update several were complaining they didn’t receive it. I think the answer was that the update wasn’t for every vehicle, so I went on my merry way. Turns out, I did need the update, a very important update. I’m willing to bet there are others, here, that weren’t offered the update that need the update.

I have a 2025 AGT with DDP, and I never received 2.8.17, nor have I gotten a recall notice (yet anyway).

I just got my recall notice yesterday. It says the target vehicles are certain 2022-2026 Air models equipped with DreamDrive Pro (AD02) and operating on OTA update 2.8.0 through 2.8.16. The fix is to update to 2.8.17. Hope this helps.

I just received the notice. My car is still on 2.8.16.

I reached out to customer care to get them to push the update to me. I, too, thought I didn't need it, since my car never received it, and I read here that it truly was only for 'some' cars.

Meanwhile, my car has never experienced the bug in question. So it's entirely possible my car really doesn't need the update. The recall likely needed to be sent by law; it doesn't mean our cars necessarily have the issue. Rear cameras are a requirement now, so there are legal implications for not reporting this issue to customers.

I've gotten plenty of recall notices over the years where I took the car in and the tech told me there wasn't actually a problem with my vehicle. But it's always good to check anyway.

Having said that, I do wish Lucid would stop with the updates that are only for "some" cars. To me, it just makes so much more sense to give every car every update, to make it dead obvious if someone is on the newest version. There's no harm in a patch that fixes a bug your particular vehicle doesn't have. So long as the patch was done properly.

I'm guessing customer care will get back to me and either push the update to me or tell me I still don't need it. Either way, I don't think it likely my car is going to have this issue. If it does, I'll just use my eyes the old fashioned way.

To be clear, what I'm saying here is that Lucid has made this more complicated than it needs to be by not simply pushing this update to everyone. A practice I hope they reconsider in the future.

In the meantime, I do think it likely that those of us still on 2.8.16 are probably fine as far as this bug goes. But they should push 2.8.17 to us anyway, just to be safe. Whatever process they used to determine who does and doesn't need the fix could be flawed.

Just weird how this all transpired. Any hoot, I’ll report back as soon as I hear from my service center.

Okay. Just heard back from customer care officially. It's what I expected.

They say I can safely ignore the safety recall. My car does not need 2.8.17. And there's a new update coming soon that will put all of us on the same version number.

So there you have it. Right from the horse's mouth.

Now, if I happen to get this bug, they will have some serious explaining to do. But since that hasn't happened yet, I'm guessing they are very confident it won't.

I don't want to jinx anything, however if I am told my car doesn't need "new" software, I'm good with that - I don't want software that was re-written to address an issue I don't have - each re-write has the possibility of messing up something else... sometimes, change is not good!

I received a reply from Lucid regarding the recall. They’ll push 2.8.17 to me again. Seems like the original attempt to push it months ago failed. Never received a prompt to download it back then. Standing by for the resend.
