This. Most people do not care about efficiency and specially if new to EVs, how charging speeds work. The offroady look seems to be doing well (everyone has an offroad trim nowadays). If under $60k, over 300 miles of range and under 30 minutes to charge, the R2 will sound great to most and will likely attract some traditional ICE buyers. I also do expect it to be more efficiency the R1.

Lucid should really look into delivering the Gravity X concept they unveiled last year, even if just a trim. That could bite at the G-Wagon and Land Rover crowd, and Rivian, of course, while offering more range and space than traditionally found in this space.

Gotta love the G-Wagon and Land Rover crowd. Need as many off-credentials as possible to go over the potholes on their way to a Whole Foods 🤣

I don't know why people think off roaders are anything more of a niche. The majority of sales in the US are base model pickups sold to commercial fleets, not 100K F150 Raptors (this is like 2% of F150 sales). Or Crossovers or SUVs with all-season tires, giant rims and 0 off-road cred or ability. Only the Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco and Toyota 4Runner are 'big' sales.

I can't really pick on the G-Wagon and Land Rover crowd. I spent $140K on a mini-van with 1,070 HP...

Even the Air outsells the G-Wagon in the US, and it gets crap all day for being an 'expensive sedan body niche'. I wouldn't waste any time building G-Wagon mobiles and spend more time building Highlander like mobiles if they want people to buy their cars. They could easily strip a Gravity to 60K re-style it and call it something else instead of doing any engineering spend.

I mean you spent 50K less than a G-Wagon or Land Rover for a vehicle that can run circles around them in basically every way on the road, with more space, less running costs etc...

Wait the Air out-sells the G-Wagon? That's actually surprising to me, especially since the market these days is hungry for SUVs.

I checked the sales figures myself and you're right, there's quite a significant sales margin between the G-Wagon and Lucid Air!

And the G-Class and Range Rovers are everywhere around here - I've only seen one Gravity and it looked like a company car (Detroit has an engineering center here.)

i'm good with the niche I chose to fill...
 
I read today that Rivian directly guided what reviewers were allowed to talk about in their reviews. And specifically prohibited certain topics. As a result they generated overwhelmingly positive reviews on cherry picked features. Seems quite smart. But also misleading. Also explains why many outlets like OutofSpec didn’t get access. They would dive into lots of details Rivian didn’t want to have exposed.

All companies do this, including Lucid. Wasn’t a coincidence that none of the early reviews mentioned nothing about the HUD. Why? Because it was never working during the press events.

I would argue that "reviews" provided by content creators aren't really reviews at all. And sadly even some of the legacy publications have fallen victim to this. Part of the problem is the sheer number of creators that are looking for content these days. There's a symbiotic relationship that exists between manufacturers that want the publicity and You Tubers who need continued access to vehicles to make videos. Manufacturers are only going to play along only if they benefit from what's being produced. And because there really are no journalistic standards being applied much of what you now get is slop. I find the vast majority of these "reviews" to be nothing more than influencers looking for likes and subscribers.

But I distinctly recall the early first drive reviews of Gravity complaining - repeatedly - that so many features were not available at that time, including HUD.

These r2 reviews are not even mentioning the holes. Makes it seem like there are none. I think they are more misleading than I’ve seen.

Not to overly pick on Rivian, but I'd like to see a review of the R2 discuss what repair costs for a fender bender are likely to be. Given the eye-poppingly large repair costs the R1T and R1S have been incurring after minor accidents, it seems like a very relevant topic for a review of a more affordable vehicle. It's less clear to me what the fender bender repair costs are for a Gravity, but Lucid should certainly be asked the same question when they announce their mid-market vehicle.
 
what is purported to be a Land Rover Defender EV has been spotted and confirmed by JLR in the article. I wonder if people would wait for this over an R2. those with vehicles from the JLR stable already might.

this is different than a rumored Freelander (back from the dead) like EV that is supposed to be coming from Chery in a partnership. or the RR Velar that has also been spotted in camo and seems to be going in a Polestar 4 direction.

Respectfully, I wouldn't touch an EV from JLR. They only recently dialed in the reliability on their ICE vehicles.
