The future of Lucid will depend on how well they execute in producing and delivering problem free Earths. The company simply cannot afford a Gravity type rollout on a mass production car. Rushing it to market would be catastrophic regardless of what their competitors are doing.
R2 envy? When will Lucid start to hype its mid size?

This makes it sound like they don’t have a prototype of mid-size yet as they are displaying tech that will be in the car.
I know that after innovating a longer and cheaper model y, Elon has included taxis as one of his pe justifications, but I am concerned Lucid has bitten off more than they can chew with launching gravity, fixing gravity because it’s software went out half baked, advancing gravity and air, developing mid-size platform for I think I heard two additional vehicals besides earth, and the robotaxi build and integration for uber. Not sure they have the bandwidth or money to effectively press all these levers. I guess from one window that appears true as things like hands free driving, phone entry, etc. have been delayed.

Interesting point. So it seems Rivian hypes and reveals prototypes way early, even if the launch is >1 year away. Whereas Lucid starts hypes and reveals the prototype much closer to launch. Not sure Lucid is doing themselves a favor - someone on the fence of needing a midsize (luxury vs adventure) could maybe get swayed by R2 or EX60 because Lucid is so quiet about theirs. People might wait if they knew more.

I feel like most manufacturers are revealing early to keep people waiting. The new Scouts are a good example. Introduced last year with a release of 2027.
I don't think its a bad idea to build hype and Lucid could probably use some right now. Every time I tell people I'm thinking of a Gravity, the response is often "have you heard about their software issues?" In the real world, Lucid is known, if at all, as that brand with the software problems. Not a great look at the moment.
I’m not so sure this is the typical scenario that buyers go through. And if you’re the type of buyer that’s researching EV’s that are coming to market months or years out Lucid is probably already on your radar.
What’s likely more common is that people that are loyal to a brand follow future releases and use their current experience to determine whether or not they’ll consider new or future models.
Something doesn't seem right regarding the efficiency numbers being quoted. For something a box shaped as an R2 4+ M per kW is off.

Yep….. and it’s not like Saudi Arabia has a history of building cars. Lucid was the countries first car manufacturer opening in 2023 and it’s not even making cars yet (coming this year).
When the companies probable survival relies on the midsize being a success not sure it’s the model you’d want to give to the newbie in the family to build and think it’s all going to go smoothly

I would agree. And we don’t know if there is a working prototype or not. Nicks tweet reads “spent time in our prototype building area”. That doesn’t read there is a working prototype. He was just in the area of them being built. Not to mention the last part of the sentence “watching the first full
Lucid midsize vehicles come together.” That doesn’t mean they’re built and operating. They are still coming (being put) together. Only time will tell.

I wouldn’t over analyze this. It was a tweet, not a deposition.
I watched many new videos of the R2 the past couple of days, once the "embargo" was lifted. While no surprises on what I saw vs. what was promised / shown earlier, I don't think the R2 competes in quality, looks and specs with the European new EVs, such as iX3, GLC electric, or EX60. And that should be reflected in price. Otherwise Rivian will not do well. Just my opinion. I do however think the new Lucid midsize will be closer in quality and refinement to the aforementioned euro new models, and possibly price too. It is just that it will be late.
Oh they’ve absolutely outsold their capacity to service their very buggy vehicles. I’m sure there’s a recovery plan but if there’s another launch as bad as Gravity they are done for.

I think the R2 will appeal greatly to the outdoor lifestyle segment. Don't know how large that is, but Jeep alone sold almost 600k vehicles in 2025.
Looking at Doug DeMuro's recent R2 video, I am jealous of the R2's software.
Their software looks very refined. Seeing it in the video reminded me how far Lucid has to go, unfortunately.
Everything is a matter of opinion but I would presume the lower end of the market just wants a vehicle that works and is simple. I mean the ix3’s interior just screams tacky, overdone and confusing. A trapezoidal or whatever shape diagonal screen, the piano black trend (as with every other legacy automaker), a redesigned steering wheel just for the sake of being different? We appreciate our Lucid interiors for their sophistication, subtly and simplicity. The R2 definitely has a simple interior. The future is the new big three, Tesla, Rivian and Lucid. I laugh at anyone buying EV’s from legacy manufacturers. You’ve already taken the step to EV, why then still tie yourself to a dealership model? Why still have to drive to the dealer for basic service? The new big three at least know how to make a vehicle defined by software good. The legacy manufacturers have been half assing it. I will say Porsche at least took it seriously with the 2nd gen Taycan.

Me too! But, and there is always a "but", BMW, Mercedes, Volvo look like they have stepped up their game in the EV space with the new models / EV platform. We'll see. But I agree, I would not even look at the EVs from the "old" big three here in US domestically, as well as the big ones in Japan. They are mostly pretending they are doing EVs. But of course, things may change (and let's not forget the Chinese), although I highly doubt any change will happen over the next 3-4 years here, given the domestic political climate and sentiment
