Engineering Explained. This is bad.

1. He missed my biggest gripe: the speedometer moves up when cruise control is on. As someone who is 6'5" this means that if I position my steering wheel for "cruise control off" I can't see my speed with cruise control on because it moves up behind the top of the steering wheel! Only solution is to turn on cruise control and then adjust the steering wheel up so you can see the speed again, which is obviously a huge pain, a distraction, and a safety issue. I'm pretty sure that any UX design person would tell you: for something as important as the speedometer, select a reasonable location and LEAVE IT THERE so the driver can reference it quickly.

2. My wife drives a 2026 Audi Q6 e-tron and it's no better (and perhaps even worse) than the Lucid. All kinds of glitches in every area. The other day she called and said the screens wouldn't turn on, and resetting the car didn't help. In addition, even though Audi claims this car can receive OTA updates, we have yet to receive a single one after owning the car since April. I heard that Audi did have an update, but it was a 5-hour in-dealership update they would only agree to do as part of a warranty claim, and even that update got cancelled after bricking some cars during the first week of rollout. So it seems Lucid isn't the only company having a software problem...

Exactly why I didn’t get one for my wife…..Lucid should be ashamed bring Gravity out with terrible software and acting as if people will still buy the car…..

I bet you they will lose 2-3k sales because of this one video! Another own goal. Management is just terrible! No clue about what they are doing with software.

I’m repeating again, they should have just released the Gravity with Air software and improved on it, make that perfect , instead of aiming for the moon……let’s see if any one else gets fired. We know Bach left.
I still can’t tell if you love or hate Lucid 🤣

Things like the dumb placement of the driver monitoring camera, the inaccurate speed limit display, the frunk opening issue, and the car not locking as I walked away are several of the issues that I have had and have reported here and to lucid. Many of them have improved for me and or are resolved. But, as I'm sure many of you agree, those here who have not experienced these issues have occasionally downplayed them towards those of us who have had these issues and even explained them away saying that it's user error.
Please show me where anyone has said any of the items you mentioned were “user error.” The frunk opening issue is hardware, the driver monitoring camera is a known limitation you can work around but is not “user error,” the car not locking as you walk away also wouldn’t be “user error,” unless you didn’t enable passive lock.

Hyperbole is not helpful, and the implication that people here are dismissive isn’t helpful either. We try to help. That’s all.

I'm not sure how much they are paying Timothee but that money should have gone to hiring/poaching a few *excellent* software programmers to analyze and fix those issues.
Different teams, and companies can walk and chew gum at the same time.

I still haven't heard the temp CEO talk about a software focus (beyond the recent Level 4 vaporware). Do the C-suite people at Lucid and software developers actually drive the car (or own one)?
Yes.

Not sure why you felt like that had anything to do with you or me. It didn't. It was a generalization of things I've read here when one member implied another wasn't doing something correctly. Again, it had nothing to do with me or you

I just logged on to see what everyone's comments are, and wanted to provide some insight into my research on gravity. I genuinely enjoy EE videos, so this video really hit the spot.

Here's my experience after 22k miles of driving the AGT, and while searching for an alternative to it after selling the vehicle. I test-drove the Gravity in Vegas when they set up a demo drive event. Lucid essentially sent four employees from AZ to do the event, none of whom knew very much about the vehicle. They have no idea if Halo was working, and they ALL repeated to me that AirPlay and Android Auto are already working, just like the air. It blows my mind how you can send 4 individuals who know very little about the vehicle to another city without doing any kind of basic training. I have very little confidence in Lucid's management.

I can only speak for myself here, but I did experience everything Fenske experienced, and after a few months, I just kind of got used to it. It's tolerable. I mainly sell to upgrade to an SUV (also a bit scared of out-of-warranty repairs) because a Sedan just isn't practical for me anymore. While doing the research on buying an SUV, I test drove every single EV SUV out there, and stupidly, ended up with a Model X again. I dislike Elon as much as any other person, but god damn, did I miss the smooth software after a few years of Lucid. Gonna get a lot of heat for this, but there isn't another EV out there with the price and software as good as theirs (is it luxurious, no, but good enough for the price). My opinion before I get yelled at again on here, lol. I've had a Tesla since 2013 and switched to Lucid in 2023. It wasn't exactly a fun transition, but I got used to it. However, that doesn't mean I want to keep tolerating it. I really don't foresee a lot of people tolerating it as their first EV when there are so many options out there now. But what do I know?
Yep, makes sense. And everyone knows software is why Tesla was such a success, yet Lucid messed up- TWICE! The fact they messed up Gravity release pisses me off bigtime! Such great driving cars let down by lousy software. Come on Marc.....say something!

“A few helpful notes, from a fellow Lucid owner:

1. You don't need to factory reset the car; I have never done it once in my ownership. The sound issues, bluetooth, etc., if they appear, can be fixed with an infotainment reboot, similar to on Tesla - hold the brake, X, and microphone buttons at the same time for 10 seconds or so. Takes about 30 seconds.

2. You don't need to switch profiles to reset the seat/wheel/mirrors if one of them doesn't automatically adjust. You can simply hit the 'restore' button in whichever setting you're adjusting. Much faster than switching profiles.

3. There are two bluetooth connections the car maintains; one for the mobile key, named Lucid-XXXXX where the last 5 characters are the last 5 of your VIN, and Lucid Air XXX where the last 3 are the last 3 of your VIN. The latter is for intotainment, the former is for mobile key. You don't need to carry your keycard around, you just need to make sure that Bluetooth is connected (and it should be).

4. I suspect the factory resets are hurting more than helping; like I said, I've literally never done one. I worry that customer care (or someone) told you to do a reset and you assumed it was a factory reset, when they meant an infotainment reboot.

5. You don't have to use your phone app to unlock or lock the car; in fact, if you do, this uses cellular, not Bluetooth. Proximity sensing works solely via Bluetooth. The way to get the car to lock or unlock, assuming a key is present, is simply to press in the door handle. If the car is locked and a key is present, it will unlock. If it is unlocked and a key is present, it will lock.

6. For EA PnC, did you add the 'lucid charging plan' addon to your account and add a credit card? Mine hasn't failed in over two years. Much of the rest of your issues, I suspect, may be related to being on an old version of software for so long. Is it still performing that way today?

The car definitely has software bugs, but I don't run into nearly as many of them as you did here, so I wonder if it's still doing the same on the latest software. Thanks for your thoughts!”

I didn’t think it was about me. It was, however, about the tenor of the forum, and was, imho, inaccurate. Thus, to make a statement like that (everyone here just dismisses everything by calling it “user error”), you’d have to back it up.

That’s all.

Thank you for this. The video was making me nuts because the guy clearly doesn't understand how the car actually works. The software problems are real, but I don't know what sort of fresh hell this guy was going through.

Geez man...sell your Lucid and move on.
One high-profile man's opinion on his bad ownership experience does not define Lucid as a company, or your specific ownership.

Everyone's mileage varies;
Sorry dude, never selling, and take a huge loss? And buy what? No other car drives this well. I'm not stupid. Its very bad that software team let down the mechanical and electrical engineering teams. Lets see what CEO Marc comes up with. Will Lucid respond? Stay quite? Or do they have something magical up their sleeve ( I highly doubt that)

Their European sales will be non-existent...unless their software is perfect. They can't compete with China in Europe.

Yeah, but consumer sentiment affects the stock price, no? Poor sales…..

I bet you with this one negative video, they lost all the sales bump from Timothee Chalamet, so that’s couple of 10’s of million down the drain…..good job Lucid!
You think this guy has that much influence among the general public? Really?

While I don't disagree with this statement, it should NEVER be "beneath" a CEO or any other company executive to interact with ANY of their customers and get a pulse on the company from places such as this forum or Reddit, etc.
It isn’t. Marc’s not “above feedback”

However it is in NO rights for others to oppress, dismiss, or invalidate the problems that each individuals have experienced just because they don't agree.
That isn’t what we do here, and if you have specific examples of it, please DM us so we can address it.

But without specific examples, please don’t make generic accusations like this.

I now feel ashamed to be driving a Lucid…..wonder how many are looking at me and showing pity on me for buying a car with all these issues…..even though my car hardly has any issues….
Perhaps consider why your self-worth is so deeply tied to your car, such that you can be made ashamed simply because someone else with a different car didn’t like theirs.

That doesn’t sound healthy. I really don’t mean this offensively.

But literally, between last night and now, nothing with your vehicle has changed. Not sure why you’d feel “ashamed” or “pitied” as a result.

I can guarantee you literally nobody is thinking that much about you or your car. We humans often think we’re the center of the world, but we are merely a passing glance in all but a few people’s eyes.

If you owned a Lamborghini, would you be ashamed when someone else had issues with their Lamborghini? Because, uh, if that’s the case, I’d never recommend buying a Lamborghini. You’re in for a lot of shame. :p

Ah, finally one of the fanboys showed up. :)
Congrats, you’ve won zero internet points for being “clever” and calling people names rather than responding to their points.

Feel better? :)

Lucid has had cars on the road for 6 years and cars in production for probably 8-10.
What? I received one of the first Air DEs in January of 2022. Cars haven’t even been on the road four years.

I have zero interest in discussing something with a "Yes, but..." person. :) Sorry.
