This past June when I brought my Lucid Air to Goose Island in Chicago the service coordinator asked me why I drove all the way up from central Illinois when the mobile van could have done it in my driveway. This week I suffered a flat tire in my driveway. Service told me to take my Lucid to a local tire shop. I said I'd be happy to pay for the mobile van to change the tire. The Chicago service person told me that the mobile van is history. They have a mobile Lucid Air that can deliver parts and do minor service, but no major work of which the van was capable. (Seems they could have swapped the van for a Gravity!) Since Lucid lacks dealers, one of its major attributes was the mobile van service. It seems to me that this is a sign that they are cutting costs wherever possible.

I've also noticed this. My last service, they sent the lucid air (instead of the van), the tech was very capable and did a lot of diagnostics, but ultimately this was an issue that required putting the alcar on a lift (loose front shaft halfnut), I also noticed for that transport, an uncovered trailer was used, for all other transport requests it was always a covered trailer.

Initially, lucid had their own transport covered trailer service, then it was outsourced (still covered trailer), but this time around it was an uncovered trailer.

Which made it wonder if a rock chip cracked the windshield or caused a dent, would lucid cover that? Or am I/my insurance responsible for transportation related damages?

This is getting me nervous. I am at El Paso, TX with the nearest service center located at least 5-6 hours away... (AZ ctr).… I was relectunt to getting Lucid due to this long distance relationship but decided to go ahead after hearing good reviews of the mobile service... Hope my decision is not a mere dream....

I don't think mobile service is gone. The Lucid website still offers mobile service. Here is an excerpt from their site:

From my experience, I would not recommend this car for someone without a service center nearby. I have one 35 mins away and on my 2nd Air.

At the San Jose opening, they showcased their new “Service Gravity” that is fully loaded with all sort of tool chest and even had an air compressor in the frunk.

So i think the “no more van” message is probably supposed to be accompanied with the “because we are going to use gravities” if I had to guess.

Seems like only half the message got out.

Mobile service isn't history. At least where I am, I can still get a mobile appointment to fix most items. But there are certain repairs that are not handled by mobile service or your warranty. Maintenance type items, like tire changes, are not covered by warranty and can best be fixed by your local tire shop. As for cracked glass replacement, and I know this because I've had to have this fix, you probably need to go to a service center. I don't know if they have the ability to do that at your home as it's a bigger repair than you're probably thinking it is. And that's not a warranty repair. I had to pay for it and then contact my insurance for reimbursement. If you have the glass canopy, I highly recommend having good glass coverage on your policy!

Personally I would be concerned if mobile service resources were being spent on tire changes. It would divert a needed resource away from other critical repairs and make little if any economic sense. The long term viability of the company is contingent on making smart business and economic decisions. Using mobile service for tire fixes that can be performed at 100’s of third party repair shops doesn’t accomplish that. It’s a bit like calling for an ambulance when you’re out of band aids.

Obviously different experiences for different people, but I have had my car for three years now, and have not once needed to visit a brick-and-mortar service center. My closest service center is five hours away, and Mobile Service is totally fine for what I’ve needed.

Thanks everyone for giving me hopes on the mobile service. This is what mobile service location looks like based on my location. Mobile service is key to my location. Even if El Paso is a cityin the Texas, US, it does not show city name on the map, but the sister city of Mexico(Juarez). I just do not want to be forgotten here in the desert. LoL.

I know that the mobile tech based in Phoenix has serviced cars in El Paso. He tries to group multiple cars together for service so that he can limit then number of trips.

Mobile service definitely isn't dead. The Gravity mobile service vehicles are modular, awesome, and likely to be their new normal. The vans were leased, and cost a bunch of money, so they built out their mobile service Airs. Unfortunately, that limited the level of things they could do with mobile service.

I expect mobile service to expand, not contract.

So yes, it's true that the mobile service vans are dead.

But it's not true that mobile service is dead.

Update: okay so mobile service is kinda dead. Mine ghosted me, didn't make the appointment, didn’t seem to even know about it-when I finally got ahold of service they said I wasn’t even on the schedule and they aren’t making appointments right now. Mine was made weeks ago but they don’t know when they can make it again. Might know in the next few days if I can get service NEXT MONTH. Unacceptable.

Mobile service is not dead. Sorry you had a bad experience.

I had a really good experience with them this week. Fast call back and multiple messages. It sucks that you had a bad experience, but that’s a big leap to the company is broken.

In the southern us. And the company is very much not dead.
