Gravity Bugs / Issues

I was told car has to be there with the keys
My car was at the tint shop so I brought only my key to get it updated. They “updated” it but my issue still persists.

My service advisor told me to bring the car so they can try to update both the car and key.

Makes me think you need to bring both the key and car.

Not sure if this is a DD2Pro bug but my Gravity does not adjust speeds around curves on the highway. When drive assist is on, it just takes curves at whatever the speed limit is65, 70, 75… Kind of like a 16 year old with a new license! I have to take over for most real curves at highway speed. I am sure they’ll address in an update.
You want to go *below* the speed limit through a turn? Unless there's a posted warning, the road is built for cars to go at least the limit on all sections. And that includes jalopies. On a dry road with good pavement the Gravity should be able to take a 70mph turn comfortably at 100, so there's plenty of margin to keep speed at the limit.

I was told by Lucid Customer Care that mobile techs cannot perform this particular piece of work. The car has to go to a Service Center, just as the release notes said.

I have a mobile tech coming tomorrow to address the second row seat squeak and reprogram my key fobs. I can let you know if he is actually able to do that.

Thanks. I am curious if Customer Care was misinformed in saying the cars had to be taken to Service Centers for the final steps of the 3.3.1 update and, if so, why the release notes wouldn't simply have said the work could be done either by a Service Center of a Mobile Technician.

However, it won't actually matter in my case. Our first Gravity is at a Service Center, anyway, having its rear drive unit replaced and a replaced HUD calibrated (if they can get the unit to accept the necessary software that it is thus far refusing to recognize), and they will do the 3.3.1 update there. Our second Gravity has already had 3.3.1 downloaded at the factory, where it is now waiting for transport to us.

Were we supposed to get two key fobs? I only ever got one with no "due bill" from my Service Center. Since I have to bring it in anyway I should get another fob if it's due to me.

GDEs are supposed to get a second fob at some point, per the folks on the forum who have taken delivery of a GDE. GGTs get one fob. Cost for an extra fob is about $15,000. 😂

That reminds me . . . has any GDE owner received their second key fob yet? Our Gravity was delivered over two and a half months ago and still nothing.

yes I got my second one for our GDE

Do you mind saying when? And how long after your car was delivered? Did you have to request it, or was it sent to you unsolicited?

Lucid had to fix the console because my key cards were not working but when they gave me the car back it is the key fob that was not working (it could not start the car)!
I was told installing the software update (3.3.x) would fix the issue. The install failed but after that the key fob started to work again (go figure). My mistake was to try to update the software again. It failed a second time and after that the key fob nor the key cards could start the car; it had to be towed (that's twice in 7 weeks).

I received the car on 7/31, I got a second key fob 2 weeks later when the car went into the shop to get the console fixed.

I took delivery in July and did tell them I really needed the second fob for my wife. I kept checking on it and the second fob came in late Aug

I was told the mobile tech would order one for me and bring it on October 1 when they do the firmware update. I plan on having them look at the HUD at the same time to determine if something needs to be done regarding the "white blob".

I got a progress report from the Roswell Lucid Service Center this morning about our GDE we had to leave behind on a trip to Atlanta. A technician who apparently moves around the circuit for certain types of work arrived yesterday and was unable to get the car to accept the download of the software to operate the HUD system. So they're going to have to write new code. It was not clear whether that means new code for the HUD software or new code in the car's base software. This sounded similar to the issue with the car not accepting the code to operate the GPS and navigation systems which took several attempts involving a Lucid engineering team. I asked if this might have the same root cause, but they were not sure. They said they have not yet tried to download 3.3.1 to the car and don't want to try until they get the HUD issue resolved.

They said the new rear drive unit would arrive Friday (two days from now), and they would start its installation next Monday. So it's going to be a while before we get this car back. It means it will already have spent a least a month at service centers on top of the several home visits by mobile techs.

Meanwhile, I now hear our second GDE is finished and waiting for transport from the factory to Florida. All the software through 3.2.2 was downloaded to it on September 15, and 3.3.1 was downloaded early today. We may actually have this car in our hands before we're able to get the GDE that was delivered on June 30 back on the road.

I'm really on tenterhooks about this. If this second car falls within the norm of issues others are seeing with their early Gravities, we'll keep soldiering along trying to get the first one reliably operational. If it arrives with anything like the issues we've seen with the first one, we'll start figuring out how to move on from Lucid to other EVs. That is not a place I want to be. I've said it a hundred times before: there is nothing that combines the balance of power, handling, ride, room, and comfort of a Lucid. It
This RDU failure really concerns me. There have been several drive unit failures on delivered vehicles already. I’m concerned about the longevity of these units, since I keep my cars along time. You had better make a long checklist of all the things to check and double check on the second DE before you accept delivery, given your issues with the first DE. If there weren’t a limited number of Dream Editions I’d cancel the order and re-order later. You could also cancel, ask for a refund of your deposit given your issues, and pick-up a used DE next year significantly depreciated.

Don't DE and GT have the same rear drive unit? I thought the power increase is from having the same drive unit for the front motor too.

I believe that you are correct.

As was another poster whose rear drive unit was replaced, I'm not sure the drive unit actually failed. Nor am I sure that Lucid is sure. The problem corrected with a software reboot, and we drove the car with no other drive unit issues at highway speeds for the remaining couple of hundred miles of the trip. Lucid said they were replacing the unit "out of an abundance of caution."

There is some really bizarre stuff going on with the software of this car. We have had destination routes spontaneously switch to unknown destinations while driving down the road. We have had the blind spot displays put up frozen images from some miles or some minutes earlier instead of the real-time live displays we are supposed to get. And at least two other posters have reported one or the other of the same issues. And our car has refused at least twice to download software modules that Lucid technicians were trying to install.

I think it is possible that the RDU faults some of us are seeing originate with the software but Lucid, not knowing what's what at this point, is replacing the drive units just in case . . . and probably so that they can get the affected units back to engineering to dive deeper into the cause.

Yes. Got it at our service visit.

Maybe, but from the perspective of putting power down on the road, you want the additional power at the rear of the car. As the car accelerates, the front lifts and the rear squats. The rear should be able to handle more power relatively speaking. Its why you see the Rivian take a "cheetah" stance when launching.

It may be that Lucid is seeing something in the logs that tells them the issue is in the rear drive unit. It's one of the reasons I suspect the culprit may be in the software rather than in the hardware of the drive units, as the software can send different directions to identical drive units, and no one here has reported a front drive unit issue.
