Hello All,

WARNING ADULT CONTENT:

Given the fact that putting a bike rack on the Air is not going to be a possibility or more importantly the significant decrease in range I am wondering about getting a folding bike. I am VERY hesitant to get one due to my history with traditional bike style. I now own a recumbent bike and this frame type is probably the largest. When I last rode a traditional bike I had significant numbness in my groin and it lasted some time after the ride. I have tried a couple of the pressure reducing seats but not all. It was a horrifying experience and I am hesitant to buy another bike of this type.

I found this bike https://www.pacific-cycles.com/if/IF-MODE it seems to match the Lucid Air in styling. The seat-post appears to be standard so switching to a different seat can be done, but trying to find one that works.

Would two of these be able to be staked on the 60% split side? At some point a trip to Mackinac Island is going to occur. I'll just have to rent a bike for my daughter. Our last trip my mother-in-law rented a bike for 3 days. They gave her the bike since the rental fees are so high there. Hopefully, we can get all the luggage we'd need to fit in the frunk.

Any bike riders that can offer any assistance?

My best answer is maybe given the size of the compartment. Probably if you can just finagle it in there. Without the seats folded down you get a 13" height x 40" deep x 45" wide

Do you need a solution immediately? Lucid should be releasing their roof bars at some point. If/when that happens a roof mount bike rack should be an option. Yes it would have a significant impact on range so if you are road tripping with a bike it might not work.

Thanks! I have to try and see if there is a dealer for this bike anywhere near me. They sell a bag for it, so no dirt on my Santa Cruz. Just need to get one for wife and myself in there. Our daughter will just have to ride in the 40% next to them.

Yes, planning on trip from Indianapolis to Mackinac Island. charging along the way is a little tricky taking Route 31 the "scenic" route.

I used to be a regular century rider, doing my first ride from Raleigh, NC to Washington, D.C. in 2000. During training rides, even with gel saddles, the compression of nerves and blood vessels in my perineum would often result in numbing. Adjusting saddle angle and sitting positions did not remedy it. Then, I tried an overnight heavy duty Depends brief, in addition to my padded riding shorts -- -- voila, end of pain and numbness. Ever since, I ALWAYS wear one of the briefs every time I ride more than 20 miles (40 miles r/t).

My urologist, who also rides distances, reported an avid rider patient who suffered permanent nerve damage from inadequate cushioning. Can be avoided simply, if not elegantly!

I mainly use the peloton.

I switched to an ISM metro seat to relieve the numbness. They have done research and many guys have some degree of ED after a bike ride

I understand that a normal bike saddle is useful when on trails and steering. But for a peloton it doesn’t matter.

Hey! As a regular cyclist, I second the ISM saddle. It takes a few weeks of getting used to because it puts more pressure on your butt bones. But once you get used to it, you'll be able to get back from a century ride and be as frisky as [insert preferred simile]. As someone who installed a custom trailer hitch on an MS, so I could safely carry all 4 bikes, this has been a big concern for me. The company that makes the ecoHitch for the MS said they have no plans to make one for the Lucid Air. However, after much research, I'm confident that the Lucid OEM roof rack will hold 4 bike racks (Yakima Front Loader, Thule UpRide, Yakima High Road). Just a question of when Lucid will release the roof rack.

I’m an old fashioned cyclist. Get a Brompton with 6 speeds and Brooks saddle and you’re good to go. I used to paceline on a Brompton with guys on road bikes around 20 mph on Pacific Coast Highway in Redondo Beach. The only reason I could keep up was that they couldn’t stop laughing.

That's a pretty wide seat. I'd have to experiment how to make it work with a folding bike (interferences)

I guess for just riding to town on Mackinac this would work. Anywhere else, I just can't do it...

I wonder if any local shops rent folding bikes?

I'm a big Brompton fan so I'm biased, but you can ride that thing anywhere.

If you want something faster than a Brompton and that is well-made, I'd look at a Bike Friday. We met a couple who have a tandem Bike Friday that fits into a regular suitcase. And those things are wicked fast.

Take a look at Bike Friday, they even make a tandem.
Take a look at a Selle Anatomic X1 saddle or an SMP F30C
I am riding a saddle similar to the Specialized Power expert on my road bike and the Selle Anatomic on my tandem.

I am 5 weeks out from prostate surgery and am back riding. Padding on bicycle seats is overrated and may actually cause discomfort if you are riding any significant mileage.

You should be riding on your sit bones ( and a pair of bike shorts) not your perineum.

If you can wait, the Gravity might be a better solution. If you can't wait, maybe the BMW IX would be able to swallow the bike as it is a crossover.

You clearly have little awareness of population variance in gluteal density. A significant fraction of avid riders (not professional cyclists) cannot sustain distance rides on bare leather saddles without discomfort and numbing. This is not a matter of conjecture:
