Lucid Air Touring
I bought Lucid Air Touring 2023 having 11300 miles 3 days back. While driving home- 45 miles, I had a burst tire (245/40 ZR 20 Michellin Pilot Sport EV). When I test drove, it was wonderful. When I brought home, used to feel a slight drag to the right. I took family for a small round. On the last 1/2 mile, the tire burst. A deck contractor friend after feeling the tire and general cursory glance, felt that there is no issue with the alignment. He is like me but slightly more knowledgeable and not a mechanic. I thought I had a respectable discussion with the seller and Lucid. The seller initially asked me to bring the vehicle and would look at the tire and check the alignment. But he was listening to my friend who was helping me with my questions about alignment. So, the seller bluntly says, there is nothing wrong and not willing to look at it. Current state, I am ordering the tire from Costco - was not available anywhere else except Lucid showroom for $650/- avail immediately, whereas at Costco I got it for $450/-. have to wait for 4-7 days. I am concerned still about the alignment. Alignment verification at Lucid is expensive. I have 2 questions: is it ok to run with one tire 11300 miles with 0 miles on the other side. Back tires are 265/40/20. I am guessing there are no rotations on these tires. Any helpful hints respected.

Welcome to the Lucid family and sorry you are having these problems. To answer your questions:

1) It is definitely ok to run one new tire with the others partially worn, but it may be difficult to get the car to track 100% straight because the new tire will always have a slightly larger diameter than the other three. I personally would replace all four tires then get an alignment at Lucid, but I am fairly picky about this issue. For reference, I had the same tire setup on my '23 Pure AWD, and when I turned the car back in they still had a good bit of tread left at 28,000 miles, so your current tires should last a good bit longer if you want to keep them.

2) You are correct, you cannot rotate your tires because the fronts are a different size than the back on the 20" Touring wheels.

Hope this helps.

Thanks your answers mean a lot. Would that mean, I can change just front 2 tires. Do you mind sharing your frank opinion. Is changing 20 to 19 an option, to get smoother ride and better mileage to reduce anxiety. Plus what fast charging station is recommended. I am guessing level3 would be faster. But heard Tesla charger may not be fast for Lucid.

I just had to replace my two front tires on my 21" Turbines courtesy of the City of Atlanta's crumbling infrastructure. Nailed a huge pothole on a crowded freeway on ramp.
Thankfully the rim was unharmed but it bubbled the sidewall substantially. Had the alignment checked while it was in for the tires at my local race shop too but that was spot on too.
Feel like I got lucky.

@RamShashi Welcome to the Lucid fam! I am sorry you are having to deal with this issue at the beginning of your ownership experience.

Without having further knowledge of the situation, I would be surprised that ~45 miles of a misalignment would be the cause of a tire blowout. Especially since you stated that the car seemed fine during the test drive. Unfortunately, there are so many factors that can impact a tire life that its hard to push back on the seller to recoup the cost.

From experience, I can say that you are okay to replace the 1 tire, and have an 11k mile mismatch on the treads for now. But whenever you are ready to replace the other 3, I would just do all 4 and equalize at that point.

This is just my personal opinion, I am not a certified mechanic or anything like that. Hope this helps!

You could change just the front two tires and you would at least not have the asymmetry issue. I suppose that would be a compromise vs changing all four.

If you are willing to buy new wheels, you could switch to 19s, but in my opinion they look bad enough to not make the mileage and comfort gains worth it. You may see things differently, however.

Electrify America chargers are the most widely available L3 chargers, but there are many threads on this forum describing their issues. The Tesla Superchargers just recently opened to us (I have not tried them yet), but you will need to buy an adapter and are limited by the car to relatively slow charging speeds.

You can swap just one tire on undriven axles but since yours is a touring, both front axles are driven. One new and one 11k mile tire will have a significant enough difference that to your motor, the car will feel like it's turning all the time. Not only will that be a challenge for tracking straight, it could potentially introduce traction control and other computer issues.

the low profile tires suffer from issues caused by poor road conditions, it is possible that you damaged the tire and it took time for it to fail.

I bought a new tire from Costco. When they removed the old, they found that the Rim was damaged and not the tire. So i bought a Rim from
Lucid, and Cosco fixed it free. Somehow, car went off the road and hit the tar road extension while coming back.

Wanted to calarify.

Somehow, car had gone off the small road and hit the tar road extension while coming back which caused this issue about 1/4 mile from my house. The drag I was seeing was the Automatic lane adjustment and nothing to do with the alignment. So everything is fine.
Not used to sophisticated car. Learning everything new. We have 3 hybrids, EV is the first.
