Gravity Bugs / Issues

For what it's worth to the host and moderators. I was fairly early Tesla adopter and have one of the first 2,000 Rivian R1T Launch Editions off the assembly line so am not unfamiliar with issues with early builds. The immediate responses to issues being reported here seems to be directed at providing cover by highlighting other car maker's deficiencies. The tone is off and doesn't feel welcoming like my previous experiences. Just sayin.......
This is pretty off topic in the Bugs chat. I’ll note that I’m not a moderator. I’ve been part of other EV communities (Tesla and Mercedes) and honestly, the Lucid ownership experience has felt uniquely welcoming and familial to me.

I’ve met some great folks here, both online and in person, and I’ve never sensed the kind of deflection or hostility you described. Like any group, people share frustrations and opinions, but in my experience it’s usually met with constructive advice or commiseration, not dismissiveness.

I’ve also been critical of Lucid at times, but in each case, they stepped up and addressed the issue. That kind of accountability matters to me more than being issue-free, especially in the early days of a startup automaker doing something this ambitious. It’s a second vehicle for Lucid but their first SUV. They did it again with a blank sheet of paper to make the best damn thing on the market.

That’s bold, and comes with these software growing pains. There’s a lot of genuine passion and helpfulness in this community. From the mods and fellow forum members.

No one in my experience has been silencing any opinions. Other data points are always important. Good and bad.

I have felt the hostility and dismissiveness and it's easy to see - it's right here on display in this thread.

As mentioned by the moderators and others in here a number of times it seems to be that when people have issues they just expect others to pile on and agree with them and when other owners aren’t experiencing the same issues and say so it’s immediately perceived as dismissive and not helpful. How is that fair? It’s not.

People are free to report issues just as much as others should be free to say “well, that’s not my experience” and not be instantly slapped with being dismissive. Some of the issues are definitely unfortunate but some of them are teething issues to be expected with any new brand / model but the way people describe them is like it’s the end of the world. While it may be the end of the world for them it may not be for others.

The comparisons are normal because if you look at Tesla, Rivian, Lucid or any other owners forum someone always has a horror story while many don’t but it seems we only want to know about the horror stories and nothing else which can generate a very lopsided narrative.

I’ve been critical on Lucid in the past and many can attest in here that I will call them out when warranted. In my honest opinion of the Gravity, yes it’s got some definite quirks but nothing to warrant “I want to end my lease” “this car is a lemon” “the software team is incompetent” as some of the posts are in here.

Back on topic, it’s interesting to see that a majority of these issues are consistent across most owners with a few unfortunate outliers having more serious issues of needing the car towed (that truly does suck). But…. Look on the bright side, It’s not like we’re seeing new issue upon issue pop up daily and most of it is software related. With that said, hopefully an OTA is on the way soon and Lucid can knock a majority of those issues out sooner rather than later. Then people can calm down a little and enjoy the car. :)

Drive system error popped up this AM, and i was unable to change gear. Tried soft resetting several times, walking away for a few, etc etc without luck. Now getting it towed to the SC for this and other issues. Currently at a little over 1000 miles.

Other issues, some of which are software-related;
Missing homelink
Driver side window keeps engaging anti-pinch when closing
Inside Trunk plastic trim keeps comes loose when moving rear seat from enclosed position.
2nd row doesn't fold all the way, leaving one side elevated
2nd row doesn't react/fold to button input from trunk
Steering button to disengage autopilot doesn't work. Have to apply brake to disengage.
Steering buttons occassioanlly doesn't work when pushing for music controls
Frunk doesn't open at first push, and appears to want to lift on one side of hood before other side starts to open. 2nd attempt to open frunk works.
Phone as key doesn't work
Error message that rear steering isn't working, and i should contact service center immediately
Trunk trim- brake light on driver side is loose and rattles.
Wireless charger turns off periodically and throws error message every few mins.
Backup cameras occassionally dont show images, just blank screens. Always happens at the most inconvenient time. Haha
Error message at every startup - headlight not working
Left side view mirror doesn't tilt when reversing.
Wow. That sounds worse than the Fisker Ocean at launch.

Not even close

I definitely recall some of your criticisms of the Air, you don’t go easy on them or provide cover when you think it’s an important issue, and that is all fine. I think the most useful thing honestly is just reporting issues in this thread, and possible fixes and Lucid’s response and what they identified, and leaving attitude and consternation out of it cuz yeah obviously it’s damned frustrating for any new car to have a problem. Big surprise. It doesn’t really help to be like “this sounds like Fisker Ocean” or “or don’t worry it’s just teething issues that your new car had to get towed and there’s no solution in sight” or “don’t talk about other car’s issues cuz I didn’t buy that car”.

In my experience Lucid is far more responsive to owner feedback than most auto-makers (I think Rivian is as well, it’s great they’re implementing Google Maps), and reporting these things are going to help Lucid narrow down the issues and fix them, and I don’t think anyone is actually dismissing problems, but more dismissing the pissy attitude that comes along with it. Lucid very much does extensive testing and even has owner testers to get a larger sample of potential problems before things get released to the wider public. I feel like it’s more surprising to me that a big company like Volvo would have a smattering of software issues than a first gen new platform EV by a company that’s been producing cars for 4 whole years. Again that’s not a dismissal, I’m not saying it’s “acceptable or not acceptable”, but maybe, just maybe, issues can be listed here so they can be flagged and looked into further, and possible workarounds can be proposed, and people don’t take it personally when you mention to them that yeah, some Gravity owners are not having many of these problems, and some other new cars are having weird problems too. Life is hard. Adapt and you’ll be less frustrated and learn more.

But we have the option to set tilt levels on both mirrors in the X. Would love that option/functionality.
Oohh I am going to have to look for that. It may have been added in some update that I didn't notice. I thought it was just an all-or-nothing toggle.

I'd really like it if we can keep this thread to "bugs, issues, and quirks that owners are finding with Gravity" rather than "are these bugs unacceptable for a vehicle in general availability".
Totally agreed. Problem solving investigative mentality without the drama.

So are we supposed to start a more generalized thread on Gravity bugs and issues, or are we just not supposed to raise the question of what, if any, effect these issues will have on the Gravity's public reception?

I’m not sure how public reception fits into a thread titled “Gravity Bugs / Issues” I’ll note that it was @jered ’s suggestion, but not an edict from a moderator. I agree with @jered that having a problem solving investigative attitude will help us in this thread. It’s already helped some Gravity users who were reporting a problem that turned out to just be their own mistake.

That’s what this forum is about :) helping each other.

This forum has long been about considerably more than just getting help and advice from other owners. I'm not suggesting that we should not tally a report of issues and their frequency here. I'm raising the question of whether those who want to discuss broader issues relating to the Gravity's arrival in customer hands should start another thread on that topic or whether it's better to have only one thread headlined with a reference to bugs and issues.

I hate to put this thread back on topic but...

Just got a call from my service guy. We talked about few things (including the cutout in the tint for toll trsnsponders--see that thread for details)... I asked if there were any updates on the software front especially to address connectivity issues. It seems as if they have one ready (or almost ready) as he was told they were about to roll it out... But he thinks they must have hit the brakes on it temporarily at least since nobody has received it yet. So, hopefully a software update is imminent.

Interesting :) thanks for the update.

I hear ya. I guess all I would like, as someone with a GDE on order, is to have a thread that’s just about the problems and possible solutions so I don’t have to dig through disagreements and offense taking one way or the other, though I acknowledge I myself have been part of the problem. I don’t have time for feelings haha, so maybe if the mods wanted to make a separate thread with a list of what issues exist and what issues have been solved and what have not and possible workarounds, just to assist owners and gather data on these early days of Gravity, I think that would be useful. At least for me I’ve found sharing info like that about the Air helpful in the past, like should I schedule service or wait for OTA or is it my own damn fault or what?

Asking a lot of the mods, but other than that I agree.

The moderators and owner definitely have their work cut out for them.
Huge kudos to them for all they do!

There's already a "Bugs/Issues" category in the Lucid Owners section.
The posts there are related to current Air ownership even though the category is not in the Lucid Vehicles/Lucid Air section of the forum.
Absolutely no criticism of the forum structure intended.

I'm sure the mods & owner will make changes as they deem necessary.

let's keep this thread specifically about bugs/issues with the vehicle itself. Any posts moving forward that do not pertain to this will be deleted/moved.

Is there a summary or sticky of the known bugs or issues with the Gravity? I am especially interested in the ones that appear to be widespread, though I understand there are still relatively few out in the wild.
