Supercharging. Explain it to me like I'm five years old

While I’m here… can someone explain to be like I’m five why the max charge rate is 250 kW even from EA 350 kW...

and

Weird that there are at least 2 in upstate NY
I think it was a trial exercise that ended once Tesla opened their network and automakers jumped on board.

You have a Touring; that's why. It has a smaller, 92kWh battery, so there are fewer battery cells. Each battery cell can only accept energy at a particular maximum rate due to the underlying chemistry, and they are charged in parallel.

Pure and Touring trims max out at 250kW.
GT, GT-P, DE, Air Sapphire max out at 350kW.
Gravity maxes out at 400kW.

GT, GT-P, DE, Air Sapphire max out at 350kW.
Although I have never seen 350 kW on my GT. I got 322 kw for about 20 seconds once, dropping into the 270’s quickly. Other than that never in the 300’s. In reality, never more than about 275 kW. .

Right, Install the Tesla app on your phone, add your vehicle and credit card into, and the charging map will show you compatible locations (Magic Dock).
Thanks for the info, this came as a surprise as I wasn't aware of it. Installed the app and saw several high speed chargers between Philly and NY. See screenshot. Does it mean all these chargers support Lucid Air?

No. Very few do currently. Add a Lucid Air to your cars in the app, find the filters settings to the left near the bottom of the "Search Location" screen, and set it to Lucid Air and 72-250kW.
This should be markedly better within a few months.

Even with these filters, the app does show many v3 supercharger locations open to the Air between NY and Philly, which I don't understand. Lucid hasn't said it's been turned on yet.

Yeah, I did add my car like below and then searched and see many chargers. If I remove my car, I see "way more" chargers so some filtering definitely happens after adding Lucid but still count of chargers are v high. Is it good news or am I just over excited. 😀

You could be the first to find out! There are none that appear near me in California. I do have a NACS to CCS adapter though, from our Volvo, and will try it when the Tesla app says it should work.

Maybe more MagicDock locations were added? Also, be sure to filter by power level; otherwise Level 2 charging stations show up as well.

Yeah I put that filter too. I frequently travel between philly and NJ. Will test one of them next time and see if it works. EA chargers along this route have been too painful due to long queue and no charging limit beyond 80%.

Bad news - Lucid support says even Magicdocks are not supported yet.

People on this forum have charged their Lucid Airs at magic dock superchargers. Magic Dock is open to all CCS1 vehicles. I think this is a case of Customer Care not knowing the difference.

I see... then I am going to test next time for sure. If it works, then its such a great news as now we don't have to rely on overcrowded EA chargers.

Keep in mind that you will only get 45 to 50kW so it will not a a fast charge up. In addition, it can be difficult to get the cord to reach the Lucid Air charge port.

There is more to the charging world than EA and Tesla. In NJ (central and southern) there are several EVGO station and a couple of ChargeSmart all of which offer over 150kW speeds.

Great, thank you, much appreciated. For my next trick, I’m going to drive over to an entirely unoccupied EA charger in the dead of night after 20 minutes of preconditioning to see if I can hit the 350 kW mark…
