New CarPlay

Wait.. that looks bad?
It's not terrible. It's just not a great use of space. Also, trying to follow a map while doing navigation in that configuration is not great. You are always having to look to the right, instead of at the road. It would be worse on Lucid's Pilot Panel, because it's even lower down.

While it is not, technically, “false advertising “, I consider it misleading and somewhat deceptive, especially since they are painfully aware that some have issues with the choice of words, yet it still remains so on their website. Not every potential customer finds this board and many are probably still just looking at the website and making inappropriate and inaccurate assumptions.

At this point, Lucid is making a conscious choice to leave the wording “as-is”. It was one thing to use that wording while the car was in development, but quite another given where they are at now and missing timelines they, themselves, imposed.

The wording needs to be much clearer at this point. “The car does not have CarPlay at this time, but anticipate adding it soon”, or something along those lines that takes away the uncertainty and vagueness.

I actually agree with you. I honestly think they thought CarPlay would be done very shortly after launching the Dream originally, which led to that wording on the site. But at this point, it would be trivial to change that wording to "CarPlay coming soon" or something of that nature. No excuse for not doing that much.

Meanwhile, in my Tesla ...

Zackly, Joe. The pic is from a dongle off of Amazon that I have since returned because the connectivity was unreliable. But the more homebrew solution (at teslaandroid.com) is surprisingly polished and usable, I've been playing with it for a couple of weeks just for fun.

Ultimately, though, the presence of CarPlay isn't in and of itself going to stop me pulling the trigger on an Air (or anything else).

I wonder if the reason CarPlay is taking so long and delayed is due to the unorthodox screen shape. It’s not a true square or rectangular main screen. Perhaps that’s where the issues are. I bet we’ll never know for sure.

However I do agree they should be clearer on the web site such as to say “… coming soon”

Well, pretty close. The rumored reason is that apple wasnt "happy" with their implementation, which could be interpreted as the screen size.

All this speculation is futile. We will find out whenever they actually release it. However here are the constraints of the current CarPlay environment as ordained by Apple so this is what Lucid is stuck with unless Apple allows a bespoke resolution or early access to the next gen GUI:

I mean, this is only resolution. Lucid's entire thing is 5k.

These are also aspect ratios. While Lucid can upscale beyond the various resolutions they are bound to the aspect ratios. Any app that is CarPlay compatible is tested at the above resolutions and aspect ratios so any non standard format would lead to issues with existing apps.

Everybody knows that the real reason for the delay is because they are waiting time the announcement to Lucid’s merger with Apple.

I’m kidding Seeking Alpha and Barron’s. Stand down!

I mean, that does sound plausible. We all know it will never happen though.

My DA told me that the software has been developed and only some legal agreements on fonts etc are pending. Should be done any week now according to him.

I think most of us have been hearing the “any day” thing now for a few months. And I am starting to wonder if that’s direction from corporate to all their employees that if someone ask you about car play, just give them a standard reply. Just seems buzzare that the car has been out for approximately 14 months and car play is still “any day” now.
