We just got our GT home and I connected it to our home wifi. However, I noticed it only would pick up the 5Ghz band. In the Air we just had, I had it connect to a 2.4Ghz band that was dedicated to devices on a separate network. The problem is our 5Ghz has much worse reception as it doesn't pass through all the parts of the house like 2.4Ghz does. Will just live it for now to see if it affects anything major, but I would prefer the car stay on the device network. Can anyone confirm that its a technical reason the Gravity only uses one type of connection?

Unsurprisingly, the manual does not say anything on the “WiFi” page. I was told by SC the only option in car is to connect (or not) to a WiFi network. You can not change anything else. Take that as you will since it’s just part of the oral tradition…

That’s correct. If you use a “real” router, you can usually force the car onto a specific network or frequency, but it’s done from your network, not the car.

Aside: it doesn’t work with captive portals, which can be annoying at hotels.

Great point about captive portals. That’s what I used for my IoT SSID but had to remove it for all of the EVs as none work with a captive portal.

On the plus side, it seems my mobile app responds extremely quickly with the car since they are both on the same network...

Wife mode? What the....! Is this a car with benefits?

Usually captive portals will require someone to enter information - something the car is not capable of doing.
