When the battery is charged to 100%, why doesn't miles remaining give the full EPA range?

However, if this is true, then why when my battery is charged to 100% does the miles remaining only say 370 miles, and not start with the EPA estimate of 394 miles?

This is due to a setting. On my GDE under “General -> units,” selecting “rated” changes the relevant numbers from “dynamic” to the EPA range in all the displays.

I recently hit the “info” button for the range units and it’s useful - it shows real world vs EPA.

My dynamic range, based on recent driving, is roughly 80% of EPA. I’ve been fluctuating between 80% - 90% when I’m in “road-trip” mode (vs “fun” mode). I’m still in the battery break-in period with reduced efficiency. It’s interesting that EPA is 420 miles (231/0.55); I thought EPA was 410 miles for my configuration (DE, 7-seater, 20/21 wheels).
 
At the gas pumps one occasionally sees the guy who continuously pulls on the fill lever after it automatically stops.

After shutoff, I always pump just enough to get my cost to a round number.
One less thing to obsess about when dealing with kWh.
 
I'm going to jump in here as a new member with a used 2024 Lucid Pure. Bought it last week (4/8/26) so I don't have experience with Lucid yet(254 miles). But 15 years with other EVs, 7 with Leaf (2011-2018) and 8 with Bolt (2018-present). Fortunately Trip Meter B has the full history of the Lucid (9747 miles and 2.93 mi/kWh). I have Trip A set to track my driving habits, right now 254 miles and 3.65 mi/kWh. I called the Lucid support center to get my phone set up as a key, and they were kind enough to tell me my battery was at 94% state of health, and I should expect 370 miles per charge. I've always been a proponent of the 90-20 charge routine, but am considering going to the "keep the battery charged to 80% as a rule" with the Lucid. Now for the bad news, I charged the Lucid to 90% after driving it a couple of days, and have since driven 113.7 miles. Now the battery meter on the dash reports 47% charge on the pack, and the app displays a range of 173 miles. OK I have used 43% of the battery to go 113.7 miles (btw at 3.65 mi/kWh) Does anyone think I'll get 173 miles on 47% of the battery? This 84 kWh usable pack(79 if you do the aging) is not projecting 300 miles, much less the 370 Lucid support suggested. My estimate would be more like 120 more miles of range, or 233 miles total. I'm disappointed to say the least, since my 2020 Bolt with a new 66 kWh battery (the famous battery replacement fiasco) was regularly getting 300 miles. I'm interested in what you veteran Lucid Pure owners have seen for range on your 2024s.

First of all, forget the EPA range. It's a joke. You'll never see it unless you drive down a mountain or go 50mph non-stop.

At 94% SoH, you've got ~79kwh of battery. At 3.65mi/kWh that gives you ~288mi of range (100% to 0%). BUT, the Trip A/B numbers aren't super accurate. If you ever reset one at the same time as you unplug, you'll notice that the "Since Last Charge" efficiency will always be lower than the Trip A/B, because for some unfathomable reason, it takes additional usage into account (eg. HVAC power usage) that the main trip values don't.

So in reality, you'll probably see less than 288mi total range unless it's perfect weather and you don't use AC or any other power-using features.

That said, I feel like a Pure should be getting better then 3.65mi/kWh, unless you're on 21" wheels or drive like a nut. 😁

I'm a fairly, let's say "assertive" driver, and I'm averaging a hair under 3.2mi/kWh on a Touring with 20" wheels. I've never seen 300 miles total real world range, even driving gently, despite the larger 92kwh battery.

Also note that until the Air gets the 3.x upgrade (you may need to upgrade your controller), the range it shows is NOT dynamic, but just shows the range based on how far you'd get in the remaining battery assuming the EPA efficiency rating, which as we've established, is a pipe dream at best.

Thanks. I have 20" wheels and not particularly assertive, but do go 70 -75 on the highway (it's Texas). Have noticed the since last charge number is slightly lower than trip B. I'll see how the next few hundred miles go, and watch for sw updates. Right now it says up to date.

Also, your Air is a much larger car than your Bolt.
I was amazed that my Air GT had about the same actual miles/kWh efficiency as my Leaf.

I have owned a ggt since 2025 Black Friday. My observations and thoughts. Trip an and b screen notes that the numbers are while driving. Not clear to me if that means while moving or while in gear. My trip A numbers have never been reset. I was at .29 soc the last time I charged to .80. .51*123=62.73 my SPAN smart breaker box reported my last ev charge at 69 kWh. 62.73/69=0.909 about 91% efficiency. SPAN reports about 1200 kWh for the life of my 2026 20 inch wheels 5 seater 2026 GGT. TripA lifetime shows about 900 kWh. While that might seam like a large delta, My typical winter morning 5 minute drive to Starbucks began with a 10 minute pre heat the car session. Also takes the car 15+ seconds to shut down after walking away. I walk slow 🤓. Summarizing tripA numbers alone cannot be used to calculate range. Stops, temperature, driving style and comfort choices will be factors too. 🥱

Do you have a commutes further 300+ miles and you bought this car to make this commute? If so I’d be upset too.

If not and you’d just like to know what distance you can drive with the car in current soc, use the built in gps and set your destination. The algo they are using in gps is very accurate and always gets it within 1% for me. I had a pure 24 for 18m. 26 pure for next 36m.

Also the 19 inch aero wheels will give you 10-15% more range. If you’d like to look at getting a used set.

It's the tires, mostly, rather than the wheel diameter. Sticky summer-only tires with a wide contact patch give better handling but aren't as efficient.

You casually said 70-75 but the aerodynamic drag goes as the square. To 70-> 75 is not just "a little more".

If we take 65 mph as the baseline:
  • 55: 140% range
  • 60: 117% range
  • 65: 100% range
  • 70: 86% range
  • 75: 75% range
  • 80: 66% range
For the Lucid Gravity, if we assume the 450 mile EPA rating (3.8 mi/kWh) is close to driving at 55 mph, our real-world range driving at 70 mph would be roughly 280 miles (2.4 mi/kWh).

Real-world numbers are better (we’d need 2nd order or 3rd order equations for better modeling.) On a road trip from SF Bay Area to Seattle Area with a fully loaded car (20/21 wheels, 3 people, 2 large dogs, luggage, 70-80 mph cruising for most of the trip):
  • Outbound: 2.61 mi/kWh over 833 miles.
  • Return trip: 2.30 mi/kWh over 826 miles (we hit rain which significantly decreased efficiency).
Using 2.6 mi/kWh for a family road trip (I’m ignoring the rain segment) we get practical ranges with 3-4 hours of driving between stops:
  • 80% -> 10% charge stops (bathroom, fast food eating in the car): 210 miles
  • 90% -> 10% charge stops (sit down fast food): 240 miles
  • 100% -> 10% charge stops (sit down restaurant): 270 miles.
On my commutes with a lighter car (just me) and speed limited by traffic, I’m getting 3.2 mi/kW over ~40 miles round trip.

I feel like this explains everything but is also extremely frustrating to realize how much wiggle room there is. I get 2.7 in both my i7 and Gravity, but the i7 is honest about it.

Yup! That's been my pet peeve with Lucid's claims all along. Both the Air and Gravity are efficient EVs, but in actual driving on road trips (70-75mph), Lucid's claims (based on EPA) is significantly off the mark (by as much as 20-25%). The German EV makers' claims are much closer to actual (and, at times, preform slightly better than their claims). My Rivian R1S delivers its specs and does even slight better than spec when driven in "Conserve Mode".

Lucid enthusiasts defend Lucid's position by saying Lucid is simply quoting EPA numbers of a 5-cycle test. True, but that's simply not the reality of what most owners experienced. When reality falls significantly short of implied claims, it becomes a "tangled-web".
