I'm not using MyQ. My Model S has an actual Homelink transmitter built into the car with the option to program 3 devices. I've used this for going on 10 years, first with my mid-2016 MS 90D and the past 2+ years on my Dec '23 MS LR.
I understand the caution, but I've been using it for close to 10 years with no issues. I have it set to open when I'm 70ft from the garage, so it triggers as I approach the driveway where I can see it opening. I have had issues at times if our kid's car is parked in the side pull-out of the drive that it may do a double trigger and door will start to open then stop. I had that same issue with Homelink on a Honda Odyssey, so it think it's more a signal reflection issue. Either way I have clear line of sight with sufficient warning.
On exit I have it programmed to not trigger until I'm 20 ft outside the garage. My MS shows me the distance countdown so I have clear visibility that I'm well past the door before it triggers. My bigger issue with exiting it in situations like I pull into the driveway to wash my car, manually cancel the closing, then it gets out of sync, creating an issue that it will not trigger closing the door automatically next time I leave. I just pay attention as I'm backing out that I see it trigger and the door closing.
Appreciate both of your responses. I'm likely not in the market for 4ish years, but with the discontinuation of the Model S, I'd be looking for something else if something were to suddenly happen to my current Model S.
